The 2017 Real Estate Edition features Krentz in a three-page spread, entitled “Champion of Property Rights, the Injured and Abused,” covering his career and legal legacy.

This quote perfectly sums up why Oracle should be terrified of Amazon (ORCL, AMZN)

This quote perfectly sums up why Oracle should be terrified of Amazon (ORCL, AMZN) Oracle founder and executive chairman Larry Ellison has always liked to talk smack about his rivals and lately the rival getting the brunt of his attention is Amazon.

Every chance he gets, Ellison will claim running a database on Amazon's cloud is much slower than running one on Oracle's cloud. And don't even get him started on the performance of Amazon's own homegrown databases versus Oracle's pride-and-joy database.

But here's the rub. Manty corporate IT folks say they know that Oracle's database outshines Amazon's, but that alone isn't enough to win the day. One consultant summed up the situation perfectly. He was talking to Wall Street analyst Pat Walravens from JMP Securities at the AWS Summit in San Francisco this week. Walverens reported the conversation in a research note. (Walravens has been a critic of Oracle over the years. He currently rates Oracle's stock a "market perform.")

The consultant said that the Oracle database "is a great product, but it can't compete on cost or ease of use... It's like a Formula 1 race car - you need a great driver and a team to look after it."

So Oracle is racing to move its own customers into its own cloud where at least some of the management headaches will be mitigated, even as AWS CEO Andy Jassy crowed this week that Amazon's home grown database, Aurora, is "the fastest growing service in the history of AWS."

The RECONVERGE:G2 Intelligence Leadership Symposium, hosted by Aurora WDC, unites the best and brightest intelligence professionals in the business world for a three-day conference to discover how much more there is to learn. In addition to world class presenters from every subspecialty in the discipline and rigorous interactive workshops, this year’s event will feature a collaborative problem-solving challenge for participants at Madison-based EscapeThis! as well as a live painting from local artist Lindsey LaPlant.

MADISON, Wisconsin (PRWEB) April 21, 2017

For the sixth time in four years, global intelligence professionals will gather in Madison, Wisconsin for RECONVERGE:G2, a three-day event designed to tackle the most challenging issues facing the intelligence field. From market and competitive intelligence to globalization and strategic organizational decisions, RECONVERGE:G2 brings together world-class provocateurs and attendees from leading organizations.

This year’s conference will focus its attention on “Invention and Reinvention” – the process all organizations (from corporate to government) must master to remain relevant and competitive in today’s fast-moving and hyper-connected global marketplace. This year’s RECONVERGE:G2 Intelligence Leadership Symposium will be held April 25-27, 2017 at Madison, Wisconsin’s Historic Monona Terrace Conference and Convention Center.

Founded by global intelligence consultancy Aurora WDC in 2013, the RECONVERGE:G2 conference responds to the critical need organizations have to collect, analyze and apply intelligence to enhance their effectiveness.

“More data about your competition, customers and markets is useless without the insight to apply it specifically to your company’s business challenges and opportunities,” explains Aurora WDC Founder and Chairman Arik Johnson. “We intentionally designed the RECONVERGE:G2 conference to bring together the intelligence discipline’s best and brightest … so they can continue to discover how much more there is to learn.”

Johnson contends that the organizations that will win in the future are those that build their intelligence talent pool through dedicated intelligence staff as well as a broader appreciation of intelligence gathering and analysis techniques throughout the organization, including the C-suite. RECONVERGE:G2 provides a forum for collaboratively building those critical skills and developing that culture.

Organizations represented at this year’s RECONVERGE:G2 Intelligence Leadership Symposium include: IBM, GE Healthcare, NAMSA, McAfee, Logic PD, The Lubrizol Corporation, NetApp, Bennett Jones LLP, Chickasaw Nation Industries, Fiserv, Target, Medtronic, Dunkin Brands, ULTA Beauty and Veritas.

A ‘Temple’ worthy of veneration at the Aurora

$

Aurora Theatre Company’s “Temple” invokes the pantheon of theater history. Opening Thursday, April 20, Steve Waters’ play, making its U.S. premiere, dramatizes the decision by the dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral (Paul Whitworth) about how to deal with Occupy protesters camped outside the landmark London church. Above all else, you might hear George Bernard Shaw in the way the drama pits progressivism against capitalism, in the characters’ quintessentially British restraint, in the way the dean answers urgent questions with droll koans about church history, each of them laden with three or four subordinate clauses. Rich as its theatrical antecedents are, this gripping drama, based on real events in London in 2011, is also refreshingly contemporary. By the end of the play, you might find yourself agreeing with, or at least understanding, a course of action you would have found objectionable walking into the Berkeley theater. Isn’t this exactly what theater is supposed to do — make you empathize with a point of view you’re inclined to reject — yet so rarely actually does? [...] allowing you to underestimate her early in the play makes her small triumphs toward the end feel even richer. If cooler heads ultimately prevail in “Temple,” you leave the play with a much deeper appreciation for all the internal combustion that goes into presenting and maintaining priestly calm and dignity. Say hello to Steve.

Steve isn't a person. Steve is actually the unofficial name of a mysterious purple streak of light observed by some social media savvy skywatchers keeping an eye out for the northern lights.

The Alberta Aurora Chasers — a Facebook group devoted to the northern lights — caught sight of Steve in photos taken of the curtains of the auroras (and decided to name him).

The one issue is that no one was quite sure what Steve was. That is, until a high-powered spacecraft got involved.

One of the three European Space Agency's Swarm satellites actually flew through a Steve phenomenon, according to Eric Donovan of the University of Calgary.  Read more...

Yesterday's Broad Power Outage Likely Caused By Geomagnetic Storm

Yesterday's Broad Power Outage Likely Caused By Geomagnetic Storm Via StockBoardAsset.com,

*Yesterday, a massive US power grid failure was seen across the entire United States in one simultaneous fashion.* San Fransisco, New York, and Los Angeles were the three main areas that were hit the hardest. Each of the areas experienced challenges or shut downs in business commerce. Also, basic infrastructure such as communication networks, mass transportation, and supply chains experienced challenges. To many this seemed apocalyptic with anaylst citing possible cyber attacks amid mounting geopolitical turmoil across the globe. We’re shocked that mainstream media didn’t revive the failing Russian narrative for another round of fake news to confuse the masses. Personally, I don’t think it was a cyber attack or the Russians, but *more of a Space Weather Event.*

Space weather refers to the environmental conditions in Earth’s magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere due to the Sun and the solar wind that *can influence the functioning and reliability of spaceborne and ground-based systems and services or endanger property or human health.*

Here is PG&E outage map from yesterday’s event. *Widespread. *

This is the Planetary K-Index, *which 5 or greater indicates storm-level geomagnetic activity around earth. *The latest space weather data signals a geomagnetic storm rolled in on April 20, 2017. During the elevated K-waves >5, San Fransisco, New York, and Los Angeles experienced power grid failures simultaneously.

-Latest Space Weather Warnings-

*April 22, 2017 @ 08:40 UTC - Geomagnetic Storm Warning (UPDATED)*

A moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm is currently in progress thanks to a high speed solar wind stream above 700 km/s. More storming is expected over the next several days as a coronal hole stream rattles our geomagnetic field. Sky watchers at middle to high latitudes should be alert for visible aurora during the next several nights.ALERT: Geomagnetic K-index of 6

Synoptic Period: 0300-0600 UTC
Active Warning: Yes
NOAA Scale: G2 – Moderate

*April 21, 2017 @ 02:40 UTC - Large Coronal Hole Returns / G2 Storm Watch*

A large recurrent coronal hole last seen in March will become geoeffective beginning April 23rd. A moderate (G2) geomagnetic storm watch was added and high latitude sky watchers may be in for an aurora treat once an expected solar wind stream arrives past Earth. More updates in the days ahead. As always, stay tuned to SolarHam.com where you will find the most up to date information.

According to http://www.solarham.net/, who uses NOAA data, Geomagnetic Storm has been declared for the past few days.

Piecing together the puzzle, we understand the sun can unleash space weather that can have profound effects on ground based systems, as well as human health. In a report from NOAA titled: *Geomagnetic Storms and the US Power Grid*, the paper mentions how the US power grid is highly interconnected and susceptible to damage from geomagnetic storms.

US Power Grid is an interconnected system which may explain why San Fransisco, New York, and Los Angeles all experienced power failures relatively at the same time.

The report shows that the sun is the source of ‘GICs’ Geomagnetically Induced Current.

GICs can enter the earth’s surface through transformers in the power grid.

GICs can force a transformer tank wall to overheat

Just maybe thats what happened in San Fransisco with the substation fire

- -

-What is a substation?-

A *substation* is a part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system. Substations transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse, or perform any of several other important functions. Between the generating station and consumer, electric power may flow through several substations at different voltage levels. A *substation may include transformers *to change voltage levels between high transmission voltages and lower distribution voltages, or at the interconnection of two different transmission voltages.

2003 Substation fire due to a geomagnetic storm overheating a transformer

Take away points

Looking ahead, the growth of the US transmission grid has exploded in the past 60 years. This leaves an abundant amount of the US grid susceptible to more power outages and possibly widespread events.

Hosted by Baker Electric Solar and Cleantech San Diego, the 2nd Annual San Diego Solar Day provided kids with hands-on opportunities to better understand the impact solar energy technologies offer today and for generations to come.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (PRWEB) April 24, 2017

Baker Electric Solar, a full-service solar company, and Cleantech San Diego, a nonprofit trade organization supporting the region’s cleantech economy, hosted the 2nd Annual San Diego Solar Day (SDSD) on Saturday, April 15 at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM).

This Earth Month celebration is the first solar-intensive middle and high school event of its kind in San Diego. Following the debut of four kid-produced “Rock the Sun” renewable energy short films and remarks from community leaders, kids ages 10 to 18 took part in a variety of solar science challenges. The activities included: working hand-in-hand with members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) to construct a working solar car charging station; building and racing mini solar race cars; watching Aurora Solar photovoltaic design demos; creating solar grasshoppers; and taking part in an interactive “sun-inspired” social media display. The kids also received education and clean energy job tips at college and career readiness booths staffed by community and industry professionals.

Speakers included: Sam Abed, City of Escondido, Mayor; Patricia Prado-Olmos, CSUSM, Vice President of Community Engagement; James A. Floros, Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, CEO and President; Jason Anderson, Cleantech San Diego, President and CEO; and Mike Teresso, Baker Electric Solar, President.

“San Diego Solar Day is intended to motivate kids to shape the future of renewable energy within their communities now and into the future. We’re not standing by as the world debates climate change and ways to encourage job growth,” said Baker Electric Solar President Mike Teresso. “Solar and other clean energies continue to drive a powerful new economy while providing a safe clean environment. What better way to sustain this growth and clean energy consciousness than educating and inspiring the next generation? Baker Electric Solar and Cleantech San Diego share this vision.”

“In sunny San Diego, solar energy has been a key part of our cleantech story since day one, and we are proud to rank #1 in the nation for solar installations,” said Cleantech San Diego President and CEO Jason Anderson. “San Diego Solar Day is an exciting way to not only celebrate our region’s solar strengths, but to inspire and mentor the next generation of renewable energy champions, innovators, and workers.”
