Larry Ellison just spent an hour trashing Amazon's $10 billion cloud (ORCL, AMZN)

Larry Ellison just spent an hour trashing Amazon's $10 billion cloud (ORCL, AMZN) Larry Ellison used most of his hour-long keynote session slot at this week's Oracle Open World conference in San Francisco to trash Amazon and its $10 billion Amazon Web Services cloud computing platform.

Amazon has emerged as an unlikely rival to Oracle, poaching loads of database customers over to Amazon Web Services.

Today, Ellison fired back by detailing in great depth all the ways in which the upgraded, "second generation" Oracle Cloud, announced this week, purportedly beats Amazon Web Services.

"Amazon Web Services uses slow first-generation cloud infrastructure," Ellison says.

Chief among Ellison's criticisms of Amazon Web Services:

· *Amazon is slower: *According to benchmark tests the company says will soon to be published on its website, Amazon is 24 times slower than the Oracle Cloud at running Oracle databases. He challenged Amazon to produce better results, saying "if they can beat them, we'll put Amazon's result in."
· *Amazon's tech is out of date: *Ellison says the comparison gets worse when you're using Amazon's home-grown Redshift and Aurora database products. "Why is Amazon Redshift so slow? Because it's 20 years behind Oracle," Ellison says. He says that Amazon's database products lack simple, basic features that have been common to Oracle technology since the 1980s and 90s, and they pay for it in performance.
· *Amazon is "more closed than an IBM mainframe:" *Because Oracle's database products are available from the Oracle Cloud, the Microsoft Azure cloud, Amazon Web Services, or in a customer's own data center, you have a lot of choice over where and how to use them. Meanwhile, if you want to use Amazon's database products, you have to use Amazon Web Services – which could end up locking you in to using them forever. "I'm not sure that many people will think that's a good idea," Ellison says.

"You know when I'm talking about Amazon, I'm being nothing but fair. You can count on that," Ellison says. "It's just true."

It wasn't all negative: Ellison also showed off some of the design thinking that went into the next-generation Oracle cloud. He's promoting it as the low-cost, high-reliability alternative to Amazon Web Services for developers of all shapes and sizes to use to build and host their apps.

But it's clear that Amazon's shadow is hanging heavy over Oracle, which is redoubling its efforts to compete in the cloud, even as its long-time rival Microsoft establishes a solid niche for itself as the #2 player and the cloud of choice in the enterprise.

Still, while Ellison is as enthusiastic as ever, analysts are skeptical of Oracle's ability to truly be competitive in this fast-growing market.

The shares will be issued at $0.015 each.

Last week, Marmota completed a 4,385 metre drilling program at the Aurora Tank Gold Project, 50 kilometres northeast of the Challenger Gold Mine in South Australia.

The drilling program was to test the Goshawk Prospect at Aurora Tank with the intention of fully defining geochemical dispersion from gold mineralisation.

Assay results for the drill samples are expected to be received in about 1 month.

Marmota is searching for Challenger-style gold systems in its tenements covering about 5,300 square kilometres in the Gawler Craton.

Kingsgate Consolidated Ltd’s (ASX:KCN) Challenger mine has produced over one million ounces of gold.

Drilled intersections from the project area in 2014 and 2105 included 4 metres at 5 g/t gold from 16 metres and 16 metres at 1 g/t gold from 20 metres.

In addition to gold, Marmota is exploring for copper at the Melton project on the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia.

Keith Scott Shooting: Police Say He Had a Gun, Family Says It Was a Book

The police narrative surrounding the shooting death of Keith Lamont Scott contradicts the story his family has told the media, and it remains unclear whether he was holding a gun or a book at the time he was shot.

Police killed Scott, an African-American father of seven, on Tuesday in Charlotte, North Carolina, apartment complex parking lot as officers looked for another man named in a warrant they were trying to serve.

Scott’s family said he was sitting in his car reading a book, waiting for his son to come home from school, but Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney, who is also African-American, sees it differently.

Putney said that Scott, 43, exited his car with a gun, not a book, and officers couldn’t find a book at the scene. Putney said evidence and witnesses both support the officers’ claim that Scott was armed.

“It’s time for the voiceless majority to stand up and be heard,” Putney said. “It’s time to change the narrative because I can tell you from the facts that the story’s a little bit different as to how it’s been portrayed so far, especially through social media.”

According to CNN, Putney said that the officer opened fire when Scott refused to put down his gun. Officer Brentley Vinson, who fired the fatal shot, is also African-American and was not wearing a body camera.

The shooting resulted in a night of violent demonstrations in Charlotte on Tuesday. Putney said 16 officers were injured in the protests.

Leading crane, rigging, and heavy transportation provider celebrates a new crane in their fleet, and the start of a large project in the Aurora, CO area.

Phoenix, Arizona (PRWEB) September 23, 2016

Southwest Industrial Rigging, a US based crane, rigging, and heavy transportation provider has added a 330T Liebherr Crawler crane to its fleet. The new crane adds to the company’s fleet of over seventy mobile and crawler cranes. Since 2014, the company has added over 1,000 tons of capability to their crane fleet, and spent $10 million for new crane equipment over the last 24 months, making their fleet one of the newest in the Southwest. “Including our specialized trailers and trucks, we have invested over $15 million across the board over the last three years. We know that new, well maintained equipment makes us a reliable source for our customer’s crane and transportation needs. They know if they call us, we will get them the equipment they need, and also provide the safest operators and riggers to complete the job to the best of our capabilities, safely and on time “said company Vice President Mike Madge.

Over its thirty years in business, the company’s main operational area has been the Southwestern States of the US, specifically Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. In the third quarter of 2016, the company acquired a contract for a large construction project in the Aurora, CO area. The new crawler crane, which made its way from Germany to Colorado via the port of Galveston, was assembled in August of this year in preparation for the project. “The tilt panel contract was a large deciding factor on purchasing the new crawler. We have heard good things in the industry about the machine and its heavy lift capabilities,” said Madge. The company plans to invest in an additional LR1300 by the end of 2016 in an effort to acquire more tilt panel work in the Southwest. “It is important to keep the communication going with our customers in regards to future needs in their industries. This allows us to strategically purchase the right equipment to meet the demands for lifting solutions when they arise, “continued Madge. The company also is researching the possibility of opening a branch in the Denver area sometime in the near future in order to make equipment more readily accessible to the customers in those areas.

Aurora Design, LLC recently received patent approval for their lumbar support and coccyx relief product called The PerfectSit®, which is targeted towards working professionals suffering from low back pain who sit all day long.

Auburn, NY (PRWEB) September 23, 2016

After 3 years of clinical research on the negative effects of incorrect sitting, poor posture and the negative effects of prolonged sedentary behavior on general health, The PerfectSit® is now ready for commercial sale. President of Aurora Design Max Leone shared this, “We are nothing short of thrilled with this long anticipated patent approval for The PerfectSit®. Knowing the amount of research and development that has gone into the product, it’s really satisfying to know that we are ready to get the product into the hands of the general public.”

According to WWMR Research Group, there will be a projected 100 million individuals suffering from some form of back pain by 2018.  They also estimated that $23 billion will be spent on back pain by 2018.  Extensive research on the negative effects of sitting have been well documented and indicate a need for the development of novel therapies that are safe and effective with fewer side effects than currently marketed products and drugs.

Leone also shared about how The PerfectSit® has been featured on the cover of Plastics Technology Magazine and underwent successful testing at a large academic research laboratory in Upstate New York utilizing Pressure Mapping, Radiographic Analysis and Surface Electromyography Analysis (EMG). “Having personally been a sufferer of low back pain due to sitting all day long at my desk, I knew we had to have quantifiable data along with bonafide relief from test users to really get this patent. And sure enough, the patent approval office saw all of our data and gave us the approval.”

Leone also went on to say, “The PerfectSit® is an engineered portable seat that can be placed on an office chair, on a couch or in a car and is meant to put the user in an optimal sitting position.  Everyday spent using the product helps train the brain to be conscious of sitting posture as well as training the body's muscle memory and core structure to maintain excellent sitting alignment."
