Issue 8: Rezoning Of Land Near Solon Village Patch Solon, OH --

Solon voters and residents in Ward 6 will decide May 7 whether to rezone a 2.5-acre piece of land on Aurora Road.

The rezoning will appear on the ballot as Issue 8 and must be approved by a majority of voters citywide and in Ward 6 for passage.

*Background*

When Solon voters decided to rezone the Solar Center in 2009 so the outdated shopping plaza could be redeveloped, a key piece was an undeveloped 2.5 acre parcel along Aurora Road.

So the shopping plaza, and that parcel, were rezoned from office to a commercial district appropriate for shopping centers.

But now, with Solar Center being redeveloped into Solon Village, that parcel is no longer important to the development efforts, but is still zoned commercially.

Planning Director Rob Frankland said converting the land back to office zoning would be a better transition from the shopping plaza to the residential area just to the east, the Carrington Court senior apartments. It's also still zoned office across the street, so that makes better sense from a planning perspective.

*Ballot Language*

A majority affirmative vote throughout the City and in Ward 6 is necessary for passageShall the Ordinance rezoning approximately 2.5 acres of property located directly east of the Solon Village Shopping Center from the current C-3-A Commercial Shopping Center District to the O-1 General Office District be approved?
