A Yorkville resident at Aurora University has been selected to one of three midwest all-region teams.
D3baseball.com announced the 2013 Baseball All-Region Teams and the Aurora University Spartan baseball team had two players selected: senior relief pitcher Luke Gilbertson (Yorkville, Ill,./Yorkville H.S.) and senior designated hitter Cory Walden (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora H.S.)
Gilbertson was named to Second-Team All-Region as a relief pitcher. On the season, he had a 2-0 record with five saves and a 0.00 earned run average.
In 10 appearances out of the AU bullpen, he allowed one unearned run, struck out 17 and allowed nine hits in 13-1/2 innings pitched.
Walden was selected to his second consecutive First-Team All-Region honor after being named to the same distinction in 2012. He also was a Northern Athletic Conference First-Team All-Conference selection after hitting .347 with nine home runs, nine doubles, one triple, 45 runs batted in and 31 runs scored.
The AU baseball team finished the 2013 season with a 25-13 overall record and a 17-5 Northern Athletics Conference record.
