EAST AURORA, N.Y.—Toy maker Fisher-Price said Wednesday it’s moving or eliminating roughly 100 jobs from its operations in the state as part of restructuring by parent company Mattel Inc. The majority of jobs will be reassigned to Mattel’s El Segundo, Calif., headquarters, and workers have been offered relocation packages, but an unspecified number of employees received layoff notices, said Fisher-Price, the maker of Little People and Power Wheels. Most of the affected employees work at Fisher-Price’s East Aurora headquarters near Buffalo, and the rest are in New York City. The cuts do not affect employees in toy design and development at the 900-employee East Aurora campus, Fisher-Price spokeswoman Brenda Andolina said. “This is in no way a reflection of a skills deficiency,” she said. “It’s a structural change, and we are sad to see the transition happen.” The moves are part of a reorganization undertaken by Mattel last year that included creation of a North America Division, based in El Segundo, to work more closely with retailers in the United States and Canada, the company said.
