Patch Naperville, IL --

The man found dead in south Naperville on Friday apparently took his own life, the Naperville Police Department said on Monday morning.

The 53-year-old Aurora man was pronounced dead around 1:25 p.m. Friday in the 3400 block of Lacrosse Lane, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

Police responded to the scene around noon Friday after a construction worker discovered the body in a dumpster next to an office building which was undergoing work.

"He crawled into a dumpster and shot himself," Naperville Police Sgt. Lou Cammiso said.

Cammiso added that the body had been inside the dumpster for a few days.

Preliminary autopsy reports indicate the man died of a gunshot wound, the Coroner's Office said Sunday.

Police and Indian Prairie School District 204 officials said Friday's incident was not related to the lockdown of Welch Elementary School. The school, which is roughly a mile from the scene, was briefly placed on lockdown early Friday morning as a precaution due to domestic dispute in a nearby neighborhood, Cammiso said. Reported by Patch 2 hours ago.
