A fire at an air traffic control facility Friday grounded flights from Chicago, forcing the cancellation of several flights to and from Bay Area airports, officials said. The cause of the fire, which forced the evacuation of the facility, is under investigation by Aurora police, the DuPage County Fire Investigation Task Force and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The ground stop had a ripple effect across the country, including in the Bay Area, because “airspace management has been transferred to adjacent air traffic facilities,” said FAA spokeswoman Elizabeth Cory.
