The Havana Business Improvement District’s 2014 summer event schedule features free events for the whole family including Cinco de Mayo celebrations and live jazz by Dotsero in the Rose Garden.
Aurora, Colorado (PRWEB) May 01, 2014
The Havana Business Improvement District (BID), dba On Havana Street, adds fun to shopping in Aurora with another family-friendly calendar of events.
“We’ll start May with tacos and margaritas at Gibby’s and end it with Dotsero at the Gardens on Havana,” said Havana BID Executive Director Gayle Jetchick. “There’s something for everyone on Havana Street this summer.”
Two early May events set the stage for a season of outdoor fun on Havana Street:
May 3, 2014, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: May Day Annual Rose Garden Clean-up
The Lisa Strawn Memorial Rose Garden at The Gardens On Havana (former site of the Buckingham Square Mall) is the site of one of the district’s most rewarding annual volunteer experiences and, subsequently, the site of outdoor concerts and events for Aurora, Colorado, shoppers.
Volunteers get lunch and knowledge on how to correctly prune shrub roses from members of the Denver Rose Society, who supervise the event. Volunteers are asked to bring work gloves and, for those who have them, pruning shears. Address: 1350 S. Ironton St., Aurora, CO, 80012
May 3, 2014, 7:00 PM – 10:00 PM: Cinco de Mayo Party at Gibby’s Big Back Yard Sports Grill
Door prizes, giveaways and party favors complement a menu of five “street tacos” and specials on Suaza Hornitos margaritas and Mexican beers to set the tone for this Cinco de Mayo kickoff at Gibby’s in Aurora. Gibby’s 70” HDTV screens will feature the Colorado Rockies vs the New York Mets and the NHL and NBA playoffs. Instructional clinics will be held on Gibby’s sand volleyball courts and the outdoor patio will be open. Address: 1555 S. Havana St., Aurora, CO 80012
May 27, 2014, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM: Dotsero in Concert—Jazz and BBQ at The Gardens on Havana
Denver’s premier jazz group will once again bring its high-energy, smooth style to the Rose Garden Plaza at The Gardens on Havana to kick off another Rose Garden Summer Concert Series. There is no cost to attend and the first 325 people to arrive will receive a Lil’ Hoagie BBQ sandwich from Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, courtesy of On Havana Street, and everyone will receive a ticket for door prize drawings. Non-alcoholic drinks, lawn chairs and blankets are recommended. Address: 1350 S. Ironton St., Aurora, CO, 80012
“Shopping in Aurora is great all year on Havana Street but this is when we really get to kick up our heels,” said Jetchick. “We hope to see lots of Denver families and grown-ups for these free events.”
