Havana Business Improvement District celebrates its 6th annual Earth Day Electronic Recycling & Document Shred-A-Thon and international recognition for past efforts.

The Havana Business Improvement District (BID), dba On Havana Street, adds an element of sustainability to shopping in Aurora with its sixth annual Earth Day Electronic Recycling & Document Shred-A-Thon Event, noon to 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 19, 2014.
On Friday, March 14, 2014, the Havana BID was recognized by Earth Day Network for its efforts in Autumn, 2013, to recycle nearly 90,000 pounds of flood-damaged electronics.
“Earth Day Network is happy to welcome the Havana Business Improvement District to an elite group of Earth Day organizers providing exemplary support for their communities,” said John Maleri, Associate Director of Earth Day at Washington, D.C.-based Earth Day Network. “On Havana Street’s efforts in 2013, especially in the aftermath of last year’s devastating floods, are exemplary in bridging business, personal and environmental interests for Denver and Aurora.”
The Saturday, April 19, 2014, event is free. It will be located at The Stampede Parking Lot, 2430 S Havana Street, Aurora CO 80014 (NE corner of Parker Road and Havana, just south of Olive Garden). A complete list of items eligible for recycling is available on the On Havana Street website. Old TV’s are eligible; paint, batteries and tires are not.
Electronic recycling is provided by Techno+Rescue, a Veteran-owned and operated Colorado full-service Green IT company. Techno+Rescue’s “Green Team” will unload vehicles and safely transport electronic items to facilities located within the United States.
Document shredding and recycling is provided by Cintas Records Management. Cintas will shred documents in front of event participants and provide certificates of destruction. Patrons are asked to bring documents in boxes or bags. While there is no set limit for documents, participants are asked to be considerate of others at the three-hour event.
“Many Denver and Aurora shoppers prefer to frequent environmentally conscious businesses,” said Havana BID Executive Director Gayle Jetchick. “We are so happy to enjoy the cooperation and leadership of business leaders making it an easy choice for those people to do their shopping in Aurora on Havana Street.”
