Adding the sparkle of wit and wisdom from celebrated British author and songwriter Sir Noël Coward to the holidays is what Craig Jessup has in mind for his one-man show "A Swell Noël," which plays at Harry's Upstage, the cabaret space at Berkeley's Aurora Theatre, through this weekend. [...] Sir Noël, as played by Jessup, will be the sly guide for a show that not only hits home for the holidays but also traces the landmarks of Jessup's 30-plus year career, with selections from a few of the singer's best-known shows, featuring other songwriters as well. Because Christmas and the holidays mean different things to different people, I also wanted to do songs I've done in the past. Cabaret is really different from any other kind of performance because of the size of room that you play and the type of material, which is usually a little more dramatic. [...] I think it's a force of nature that drives itself and keeps going because of the desire of performers - when you're really up close and personal with people, it's so gratifying for both the performer and the audience.
