NER's Enhanced Aurora Management System Revolutionizes Temperature Monitoring

Enterprise Edition, Sensor Grouping and Diverse Thermographic Mapping improves the user experience.

Glassboro, NJ (PRWEB) December 05, 2013

One year ago, NER Data Corporation (NER) launched the patent-pending Aurora High Resolution Temperature Sensing Strip which changed the way critical environments monitor and visually represent temperature at the cabinet level. Today, NER announced significant enhancements that bring higher levels of visualization and management to the Aurora Management System. All of the new features are included in the existing hosted (cloud-based) version and in a new Enterprise (local) version. The Enterprise edition enables organizations to deploy and run the Management System locally on their own servers.

A new Sensor Grouping feature provides the ability to group and order sensors in any configuration. With Sensor Grouping, onscreen sensors can easily be arranged to exactly match physical strip deployments. Another notable enhancement is Diverse Thermographic Sensor Mapping. Unlike single point sensors, Aurora Strips have 8 temperature sensors that take readings at 8 height stratifications. With Diverse Thermographic Sensor Mapping, users can quickly view any single stratification on a map or can click “Scan” to automatically scroll through all of the stratifications levels.

Additional new features include:·     Improved Icon Scaling that provides better views of sensor icons when zooming in and out
·     Increased Screen Resolution that allows for more sensors, list details, and “At a Glance” views to be displayed onscreen
·     A Gateway Sensor List that allows users to assign specific sensors to specific gateways.

When launched Dec. 2012, the Aurora High Resolution Temperature Sensing Strip revolutionized how facilities view temperature. The strip has eight sensors spaced vertically eight inches apart that collect readings at eight different height levels. Temperatures readings are visually displayed on the strip through high resolution LEDs that range from cool (blue) to hot (red) and a blend of 129 colors in between. Data from these readings are sent to the Management System through a gateway for trending and alerting purposes.

“There is no comparison to the visual aspect of these high resolution strips,” said Robert Huttemann, Vice President at NER. “The Management System enhancements bring that high visual aspect to the user interface along with the flexibility to model the user’s exact environment – from row to row and from top to bottom similar to a CFD.”

Huttemann further adds, “Data Centers are dynamic environments with temperature being a critical aspect, so Aurora’s instantaneous and accurate representation is invaluable when monitoring changes or validating best-practice improvements. Whether you are looking down the aisle, viewing the user interface, receiving automated alerts, or collecting trending data, with Aurora potential issues in critical spaces will not go unnoticed.”

Additional enhancements scheduled for release later this month include a New Aurora Ethernet Gateway for ModBus over IP and SNMP support. NER manufactures Aurora in the US and is currently accepting orders for immediate delivery. For more information about NER’s products and services, visit http://www.nerdata.com.

Apollo Minerals expands footprint at Titan base-precious metals project in South Australia

Apollo Minerals (ASX: AON) has expanded the exploration footprint of its Titan base-precious metals project in South Australia that is prospective for IOCG mineralisation.

The newly granted EL5348 is adjacent and contiguous to the southern boundary of the project area, increasing its size by 50 square kilometres to 1,467 square kilometres.

It contains the Carne Prospect that is ypically concealed by extensive recent sand and colluvial cover.

This is situated within 7.5 kilometres from outcropping Meso-Proterozoic units of the Gawler Range Volcanics, which are recognised as having an influential role in the mineralising event associated with IOCG’s in the Gawler Craton including the Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill and Carrapateena deposits.

It is perceived that the younger Jurassic-Tertiary sequences may overlay, and cover potentially mineralised geology.

Appraisal of the Carne licence area EL5348 shows a number of northwesterly trending lineaments which have high potential to host GRV intrusive units within magnetic lows, and concealed by younger Jurassic-Tertiary cover sequences.

*Titan Base-Precious Metals Project*

Apollo is conducting further research in conjunction with the South Australian Governments’ Geological Survey to further the understanding of the geological framework in the northern Gawler Craton.

Investigations are specifically aimed at verifying the potential of the area to host world-class copper-gold deposits.

Exploration is gathering evidence supporting the wide spread occurrences of GRV and Hiltaba Suite granites in the northern and central parts of the Gawler Craton in areas where extensive geological cover has previously concealed the formal identification of GRV units.

Age dating has also confirmed a range of ages that compare favourably to the major IOCG deposits.

Apollo is continuing to advance further exploration in the region with plans to conduct further geophysical IP and gravity surveys across targets within the project area.

It is planned to follow-up confirmed targets with drilling program at several sites including the Bundi, Ibis, Mars-Aurora Tank, Sequoia East and Wirrida prospects.

Geophysical surveys are expected to be completed early in 2014 with a drilling program to commence upon verification of drill sites.

*Analysis*

With Apollo Minerals continuing to build up its case for the Titan project hosting IOCG mineralisation similar to Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill, the new permit gives it further acreage to expand into.

Planned exploration will provide the company with a road map for this interpretation and sets the tone for future exploration.

Upcoming share price catalysts include the geophysical IP and gravity survey as well as drilling at the Bundi, Ibis, Mars-Aurora Tank, Sequoia East and Wirrida prospects.

This Time-Lapse Of The Earth From The ISS Is Just...WOW!

Just about any view from the International Space Station is spectacular--and perhaps that's not surprising since the ISS orbits Earth at a speed of 5 miles per second, 240 miles above our planet's surface.

But a series of luminous time-lapse videos from the ISS stitched together is, well, absolutely breathtaking. Just have a look at the YouTube video above, entitled "The World Outside My Window." It features time-lapses from ISS expeditions 29, 30, and 31.

The goal of producing the video, according to the brief text that accompanies it, is to "bring a bit more attention to the station itself, including the humans aboard it, particularly Don Pettit (appearing in the final shot) who took many of the sequences in this montage."

The video certainly offers some amazing glimpses of the station itself, but we have to say that nothing compares to the beauty of the planet passing silently below.

If you liked this, check out "All Alone in The Night," a time-lapse that captures incredible nighttime views of the aurora australis, a.k.a. the southern lights. Reported by Huffington Post 1 day ago.

What Does It Mean to Be an Entrepreneur Today? Reflections for 2014

"A tell tale sign of an entrepreneur is not just a vision, but the tenacity to use any and all resources to sculpt that vision into reality." -- Aurora Chiste, Co-Founder: Hack for Big Choices

"You know you're an entrepreneur when you believe you're solving a problem to make the world a better place." -- Ash Kumra, Co-Founder: Dream It AliveDecember is a month where people hit the "pause" button and think about the past year. About what was attempted, accomplished, remembered, forgotten, created, and discarded. About where one is headed; physically and metaphorically. It is a time where people truly feel the push-pull of having time for themselves carved out of time spent with others. It is difficult to engage in productive mindfulness when there is a plethora of socialization opportunities for togetherness and busyness; family gatherings, holiday office parties, and shopping frenzies. But this is exactly the time of year to be introspective and take a moment to reflect, especially if you are woman interested in becoming an entrepreneur.

As this year draws to a close and people look ahead to 2014, the phrase "I plan on pursuing entrepreneurship" is being heard around the world; in boardrooms and basements and everywhere in between. But what does that really mean?

There are many types of entrepreneurship, and niche markets are all looking for game changers and inspirational leaders. Especially with regard to solving world problems such as education and healthcare, which is what social entrepreneurship is all about.

It is what Aurora Chiste and Ash Kumra are methodically and eloquently engaged in, I am engaged in, and all entrepreneurs should engage in to some extent. I am not alone in this opinion. Read this moving and intelligent blog post about the need to update Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, by Charlie Kim, Founder/CEO Next Jump.

Another type of "new age" entrepreneurship is idea entrepreneurship i.e. thought leadership, a term which I first saw in a February 2013 blogpost by Ray Edwards about helpful iPad Apps for thought leaders. Is thought leadership the same as change leadership? Dana Theus tackles this question in a recent blog post which highlights the paradigm shift we are starting to see in entrepreneurial arenas.

Social media is also contributing to the paradigm shift, which is causing us to rethink our outlook about digital crisis management. Andrea Vascellari's insights and tips are simple yet profound, especially his two suggested fundamental questions to keep in mind. What is the difference between a manager and a leader, and how does that impact on a company's social media strategy and overall culture? Steve Keating's succinct food for thought sheds light on this growing conundrum we all need to be aware of.

George Deeb recently provided a great psychological blueprint for different types of entrepreneurs, based on Joe Abraham's pithy book Entrepreneurial DNA. I would like to provide another psychological profile and alternate definition of entrepreneurship for you to consider. As we head into the new year and start to make our resolutions and plans, here are my takeaways from the past year spent lecturing on the road. They are based on my own process of trial and error, my own experiences and research, and my observations of patterns of human behavior. All of which has coalesced into my NICE Philosophy and upcoming book. Here is what I learned about entrepreneurship this past year:

*You Might Be an Entrepreneur If You....*

1. Embrace your inner "lone wolf": You don't like to blindly follow the pack. You think for yourself, and come to conclusions about things on your own, rather than conforming and/or staying with the status quo. You actually enjoy your own thought processes and sometimes even your own company! You have an established sense of self.

2. Challenge yourself and old ways of doing things: You prefer to go off the beaten track and try something new, to create, innovate, and problem solve. You are not averse to risks and change. You relish coloring "outside the lines" and connecting the dots, testing your mettle, learning new things about yourself and those around you. You have an established sense of adventure.

3. Successfully balance your Me vs. We think with actual deed: You walk that tightrope between being a mentee and being a thought leader, and between collaborating authoritatively and resisting authority. You vacillate between seeking help and orchestrating disruptive innovation. Your Minimally Viable Product (MVP) makes you part of the lean startup movement, while your impact (and Story) makes you part of the social entrepreneurial movement. You learn the rules of the game and then find ways to reinterpret, revise, or rebut them, to create space for your own game pieces. You have an established sense of timing.

*You Think You're an Entrepreneur So You... *

1. See patterns in world events, tech trends, and cultural trends, and plan how to positively exploit them, and execute said plan within your allotted time frame.

2. Say "why not" instead of "why", and "watch me do it" instead of "I can't".

3. Retain childish wonder and optimism in the face of challenges/setbacks.

*You Know You're an Entrepreneur When You....*

1. Find ways to promote positive change that helps people do something differently, more easily, and/or more meaningfully.

2. Achieve a better work/life balance; for yourself and for others, based on the examples you set and the product/service you provide.

3. End up heeding your own "inner voice" to adjust your trajectory and game plan, after weighing the debated pros and cons based on the other voices around you; in Real Time and/or "cyber time". Reported by Huffington Post 1 day ago.

Louie Gohmert: Atheists Should Encourage Worship To Protect The Country

$

WASHINGTON -- If atheists want their country to be free and safe, they should encourage people to worship God, Texas Republican Rep. Louie Gohmert argued Thursday during a House floor speech.

Gohmert, who has a penchant for tweaking people who do not believe in God, was delivering a speech about the lack of attention given to Christians who are persecuted around the world.

Although he also declared that Christianity is the most persecuted religion in the world, as an aside he argued that only nations that turned away from the Judeo-Christian god have ceased to exist.

"No country has ever fallen while it was truly honoring the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob," Gohmert said.

"So if you were completely areligious, completely atheistic, but you wanted to have a free country, and you wanted to have it safe and protected, then it would sound like -- from historical purposes -- that it might be a good thing to encourage those who believe in God to keep doing so," Gohmert said. "Because when a nation's leaders honor that God, that nation is protected. It's only when it turns away that it falls."

Gohmert has belittled people who don't believe in God before, blaming suicides in the military and the 2012 mass shooting in Aurora, Colo., on atheism. Other members of Congress have disparaged atheists in the military.

Greg Epstein, Humanist Chaplain at Harvard University, said such talk actually does significant harm to people who do not believe in God or who hold other religious beliefs, and in fact, make the United States weaker.

"What he [Gohmert] said is insulting. It's really insulting and hurtful," Epstein said. "People who are not religious or believe differently experience prejudice directly because of his statements."

Epstein said such thoughts declared by elected officials on the floor of the House suggest to others that it's OK to disrespect people who don't share their religious views.

It makes people who are not religious worry about persecution they could face, he said. "If you have him out there trumpeting what it is to be a good American, a police officer, a plumber -- who knows -- might feel pressure because this guy is saying there is only one way to be a good American."

He noted that other leaders conducted themselves differently, adding that Massacusetts Gov. Deval Patrick issued a proclamation on Thursday declaring Dec. 8 "Humanist Community Day," in honor of the opening of a humanist center on Harvard Square.

Epstein also had some advice for Gohmert on safeguarding the nation.

"If you want to protect your country, you will encourage freedom of thought and freedom of conscience and freedom of expression," he said. "If you want to damage your country, you will encourage uniformity of thought; you will be the thought police."

And he predicted most Americans would agree with him, not Gohmert.

Newtown Pleads For Privacy As Sandy Hook Anniversary Looms

$
0
0
WASHINGTON -- As the one-year anniversary approaches for the murders of 26 students and educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., many groups representing victims' families are planning no special events.

And one group that will publicly mark the occasion won't be doing it in Newtown. Instead, the non-profit Newtown Action Alliance will hold a two-day program of community service in Washington, culminating in a National Vigil for All Victims of Gun Violence on Thursday afternoon at the Washington National Cathedral.

"Hopefully these events will help us deflect some of the attention away from our town," said Newtown resident Dave Eckert, an organizer of the anniversary event. "We'll be coming to D.C. with two buses from Newtown, and we'll be meeting up with people from all over the country whose lives have been affected by gun violence," including parents and survivors of mass shootings in Aurora, Colo., Tucson, Ariz., and Virginia Tech, he said.

The Newtown Action Alliance trip is part of an effort by Newtown nonprofit groups, residents and town leaders to deflect attention from the New England town, where a lone gunman committed one of the worst school shootings in American history on Dec. 14, 2012. Many of the families of Sandy Hook victims plan to leave town for the week to avoid the media, said a Sandy Hook resident who requested anonymity in order to discuss sensitive plans.

Newtown First Selectman Pat Llodra, the equivalent of mayor, pleaded with the world in October to leave her town alone for the anniversary. "We are wishing fervently that those many persons who wish us well, and the media, will allow us this time to be alone and quiet," she wrote on her blog.

Llodra explained that residents had chosen, "to remember and honor those who lost their lives in that awful tragedy in ways that are quiet, personal, and respectful." Her statement was endorsed by the interim schools superintendent, a member of the clergy and a mental health professional.

A spokesman for Sandy Hook Promise -- the most visible of the Newtown memorial groups -- did not respond this week to calls and messages from The Huffington Post, perhaps reflecting how seriously some groups are taking the appeal for privacy.

"Clearly, there are mixed feelings about press attention in Newtown, and they certainly have a right to want privacy," said Linda Rosenberg, CEO of the National Council for Behavioral Health. "But there may also be some people who would feel that if there weren't any media attention, then the nation wasn't fully appreciating the enormity of the tragedy here."

One of those people is Sam Mihailoff, a music teacher and a 34-year resident of Newtown. "There are people in town who don't want outsiders here, who call them gawkers," Mihailoff told HuffPost "They hate that a news truck is parked downtown. But I say the [the media] have got a job to do. There are people all over the world who hurt for this horrible tragedy."

Another factor complicates Newtown's desire for privacy. Since last December, scores of nonprofits have been launched in the name of Sandy Hook's victims and survivors. According to the Newtown Charities Coordinating Committee, there are more than 20 personalized memorial funds dedicated to individual victims. In addition, a half-dozen family and survivors' aid funds have been created, along with a slate of commemorative building efforts and a number of political action groups, intent on changing gun safety and mental health laws.

Like any nonprofit, these groups rely on public awareness to raise funds to operate. And even a year later, the community's needs remain great.

"There are a lot of therapy dogs in town now, who weren't here a year ago, and a lot of kids who still don't sleep through the night," said Eckert. "This is a long-term recovery, and it's going to take a long time." In the meantime, he said, residents of Newtown treat one another more kindly than they did before Sandy Hook. "There's a lot more holding doors for people and buying Girl Scout cookies," he said.

A few of the individual memorial funds have raised enough funding to begin new programs. Created in memory of 6-year old Ana Marquez Greene, the Ana Grace Project hosted an inaugural event in Hartford earlier this month, a day-long conference "to promote mental health and community well-being." The event was sponsored by Connecticut-based tools company Stanley Black & Decker, and was off limits to reporters.

Mental health professional Bryan Gibb was one of the invited speakers. Gibb, director of public education at the National Council for Community Behavioral Healthcare, said a number of teachers from Sandy Hook-area schools attended the conference. Gibb said he talked about "the importance of spotting early signs of mental illness and intervening before it's too late." The conference was practical and informative, he said, "but it was also a little bit musical and a little bit spiritual. A real celebration of this child's life."

As Newtown faces long-term mental community health needs, some nonprofits are positioning themselves to meet the demand. The Newtown Memorial Fund was created for the immediate needs of victims' families, but recently shifted its mission to providing supplemental funds for mental health counseling.

Thus far, the group has raised $1.6 million "to provide for the immediate and ongoing needs of those affected [by Sandy Hook], to construct a physical memorial honoring the lives lost … and to establish academic scholarships … for future generations of Newtown students," said Amy Bailey, a spokeswoman.

A similar shift took place at one of the largest Newtown assistance funds, the Sandy Hook School Support Fund. Initially administered by the United Way, the fund was transferred to a locally based board early this year. In August, it distributed more than $7.5 million in donations to the 40 families most affected by Sandy Hook. On Nov. 5, the group announced it would use the remaining funds -- nearly $5 million -- for broader community needs and appointed a new board to determine what those needs are.

Similar to the disbursement of funds after the 9/11 and Virginia Tech tragedies, the process of allocating the millions of dollars of Sandy Hook donations wasn't always smooth. Some families complained that the slow-moving application process for funds meant money wasn't available when it was needed most -- soon after the shooting, when many family members were too distraught to return to work.

"I sat on my couch and cried for six weeks," said Eckert, whose 7-year-old son did not attend Sandy Hook Elementary School, but was close friends with four of the 20 murdered first-graders.

It wasn't until Eckert traveled to Washington for a rally on gun safety in late January that he finally felt a sense of purpose. Now, he said, "we come to Washington every three months, and each time we bring people from other parts of the country who've lost loved ones to gun violence."

The April failure of a Senate bill to expand background checks for gun buyers was a blow to many of the Newtown residents who took up the cause of gun safety after the massacre. Despite the legislative setback, Eckert said members of the Newtown Action Alliance have continued to lobby Congress for more stringent gun laws. In their meetings with lawmakers, he said, "we try to understand what their resistance is to universal background checks and stricter gun safety laws."

According to police, Newtown shooter Adam Lanza fired more than 150 rounds in less than five minutes.

The upcoming anniversary of Lanza's crime has put the lobbying efforts on hold, Eckert said. "When we came back after our September trip, our town decided they wanted people to honor the lives lost at Sandy Hook by performing acts of kindness in their own communities," he said. "I mean, we've all been so moved by the support, but please don't send any more teddy bears."

Eckert said the Newtown Action Alliance didn't want to politicize the first anniversary of the shooting, "and we don't want to advocate" during this sensitive time. Instead, "we're going to be working with domestic violence centers and after school programs in D.C., painting and doing yard work, and anything else they need."

The group, which Eckert expects will exceed 100 people, will fan out "to eight or nine different places in Washington that need our help." They're currently raising money online to help pay for more gun violence victims to join the group in D.C.

Unlike the Newtown Action Alliance, the Newtown Memorial Fund "will not be formally commemorating the one-year anniversary of the tragedy, as requested by the victims families, survivor witnesses and town officials," wrote Amy Bailey, the spokeswoman. Nonetheless, the memorial fund's founder and chairman Brian Mauriello stressed to HuffPost that his group has a lot of work still ahead of them. "We cannot rest -- knowing how great and widespread legitimate needs for support are right now in the community." Reported by Huffington Post 4 hours ago.
