Innovations in Optics, Inc. will display their unique, high power UV-LED Systems at UV.EB West in San Francisco, CA, Feb. 27-March 1, 2017, at the Embassy Suites San Francisco Airport Waterfront.

Woburn, MA (PRWEB) February 23, 2017

The LumiBright™ 3300B UV-LED Illuminators are an extremely high power, highly uniform UV-LED solution supporting unprecedented speed and resolution for UV DLP® applications such as 3D printing, computer-to-screen and computer-to-plate printing and maskless lithography. As a member of the Texas Instruments Design Network, two models have been developed for two different DLP chipsets. The 20 watt illuminator is designed for the DLP7000 chipset and the 30 watt illuminator design supports the DLP9500 chipset. Available wavelengths for the UV-LED array include 365, 385, 395 and 405 nm in single or multi-wavelength configurations. Water-cooling allows the UV-LED array to be operated at a very high current density.

The Aurora™ UV Classic Line Sources serve industrial UV curing as used for the photopolymerization of inks, coatings, adhesives and sealants. The Aurora Classic’s patented optical design provides peak irradiance at a large working distance from the emitter window and ultra-uniform distribution in two dimensions. Other commercial UV-LED curing systems specify peak irradiance at the emitter window glass, and only support flat surfaces or small objects easily positioned in proximity of the window since the irradiance fall-off is ineffective at longer working distances. The Aurora UV Classic Line Sources are ideal for UV curing applications where machine frameworks or complicated part profiles prevent the UV-LED system from being mounted close to the cure surface.

LumiBright UV-LED Light Engines are integrated LED assemblies that emit very high optical power and easily couple to liquid light guides and fiber bundles for spot curing applications. The light engines combine densely packed chip-on-board (COB) die arrays with a TIR optic, a compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). Metallic-core PC boards (MCPCB) conduct heat away from the COB array and a high current capacity surface mount connector support high drive current operation. No additional optics are necessary for light guide coupling. The light guide ferrule can be butt-coupled to the CPC optical aperture of the LumiBright UV LE.

Innovations in Optics, Inc. (IOI), founded in 1993 and located near Boston, offers high power LED light sources for science and industry that provide maximum photon delivery, illumination uniformity, and stable optical power. IOI’s products offer system-level advantages over lasers and arc lamps in OEM equipment for many applications. LumiBright™ light engines and illumination systems feature patented and patent-pending optics which collect, direct and maximize output efficiency and uniformity. Available LED wavelengths range from UV 365 nm through the near-infrared, including broadband white and multiband options. LumiBright™ system components include thermal management devices and driver/controllers.

Aurora, IL area community will walk to raise awareness for essential tremor, the most common neurological movement disorder.

Lenexa, KS (PRWEB) February 23, 2017

This March, the International Essential Tremor Foundation (IETF) invites the community of Aurora, Ill., to celebrate National Essential Tremor Awareness Month at the Shake, Rattle and Walk for Essential Tremor Awareness. This fundraising walk is 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 at Rush-Copley Healthplex Indoor Track located at 1900 Ogden Avenue. Participants can learn more by contacting Walk Organizer Lynn Bernau at lbb1219(at)yahoo(dot)com.

March is National Essential Tremor Awareness Month, an important time for people of all ages, from all walks of life, to walk together to increase awareness of the most common neurological movement disorder in their communities. It allows everyone to share their story, make connections and keep the conversations going.

Essential tremor (ET), which affects nearly 10 million people in the U.S., is the most common neurological movement disorder, but is frequently misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s disease. The condition is often characterized by rhythmic, involuntary and uncontrollable shaking of the hands and arms, the head, voice, legs and trunk during movement, making daily tasks difficult if not impossible. While not life threatening, ET is a serious and progressive condition that can significantly affect a person’s quality of life – socially, professionally and emotionally. At this time there is no cure for essential tremor.

The local ET Awareness Walk will join communities all throughout the country to fund tools and support for healthcare providers, the public, and those affected by ET and research to find treatment options, the cause and ultimately, a cure for this life-altering condition.

Bernau’s personal connection to ET drives her to raise awareness in her local community by organizing an ET walk in the Aurora area, “I want others in my community to join my walk to help raise awareness and bring hope to all those in the area who are affected by ET,” said Bernau.

Participants are encouraged to make a donation and will receive a complimentary T-shirt for participants to wear throughout the year in an effort to raise even more awareness about ET. Donate today at https://www.essentialtremor.org/awarenesstools/et-awareness-month-donation/.

About the International Essential Tremor Foundation
Headquartered in Lenexa, KS, and founded in 1988, the International Essential Tremor Foundation is the leading organization in the world dedicated to those affected by essential tremor. The mission of the IETF is to provide global educational information, services and support to children and adults challenged by essential tremor (ET), to their families and health care providers, as well as to promote and fund ET research.
The IETF has distributed nearly $1 million in research grants, to fund numerous promising studies, in the search for the cause of ET. The Foundation has hosted numerous community awareness events across the U.S. to provide those affected with the basic knowledge necessary to become their own advocate when seeking treatment. And, the IETF also provides assistance to a vast network of support groups around the world. How to buy a home when you haven't sold yours yet

$

Successful contingency offers depend on good communication between the real estate agents representing both sides, Pratt adds. If you have a high credit score and considerable equity in your house, you could free up some of the latter with a home equity line of credit. A HELOC lets you use up to 85 percent of your home's value, less the balance remaining on your mortgage, and is fine-tuned based on your credit profile and income. A HELOC requires an appraisal, income verification and a thorough credit check, so it takes time — generally 30 days or more — to qualify, says Tim Beyers, mortgage analyst with American Financing in Aurora, Colorado. To qualify for the new loan, a lender will evaluate your current mortgage payment, plus the HELOC payment and your new monthly mortgage payment, to calculate your debt-to-income ratio for the new mortgage approval, Beyers says. With this strategy, you break up the financing on your new home with a first mortgage for the amount you need, plus a HELOC to make up the difference in your shortfall for a down payment, says Elise D. Leve, senior mortgage banker at Citizens Bank in New York. Once you sell your current home, you can pay the HELOC portion off in full and end up with the single mortgage you wanted in the first place, Leve says. Reported by SeattlePI.com 14 hours ago.

Aurora Labs bags $7M to accelerate its 3D printer business

Aurora Labs (ASX:A3D) has successfully completed an oversubscribed share placement to raise $7 million at $2.50 per share to accelerate the development of its 3D printer business. The Perth-based company garnered investor attention after developing a range of metal 3D printers that are cheaper than its competitors. The new proceeds will primarily be used to accelerate the development and testing of Aurora’s innovative medium and large format 3D printers. The company listed on the ASX in August 2016 after successfully raising $2.8 million through an IPO. Aurora burst into investors’ consciousness late last year when the stock, which listed at $0.20, skyrocketed to a peak of $5.35, giving it a market capitalisation of nearly $300 million. The focus of the exuberance is its large-format 3D metal printer prototype that can be used to make metal parts for a variety of industrial applications. Interestingly, Aurora is in discussions with some of the world’s biggest mining companies to reduce their inventories of spare parts through the use of the company’s 3D metal printer. In December 2016, Aurora shipped its first small S-Titanium Pro printer to a buyer. This marked the company’s transition from a developer to a producer of 3D metal printers. Lawsuits could mean that the Silicon Valley self-driving bubble is about to pop (TSLA, GOOGL)

Lawsuits could mean that the Silicon Valley self-driving bubble is about to pop (TSLA, GOOGL) The gloves are coming off in the Silicon Valley race to dominate the self-driving world.

Google's Waymo is now suing Uber and its recent acquisition, Otto, for stealing technology secrets.

As Business Insider's Alexei Oreskovic and Danielle Muoio reported on Thursday:

At the center of the suit is Anthony Levandowski, one of the original members of the team that worked on Google's self-driving-car project. In January 2016, Levandowski left Google after nine years to found Otto, a startup focused on autonomous trucks. Six months later, Uber acquired Otto in a deal valued at $680 million. Waymo alleges that Levandowski "downloaded over 14,000 highly confidential and proprietary design files for Waymo’s various hardware systems, including designs of Waymo’s LiDAR and circuit board" six weeks before resigning from Google.

This lawsuit follows one filed by Tesla for similar reasons. Tesla recently sued the former head of the Google Car project, Chris Urmson, and Sterling Anderson, who ran Tesla's Autopilot program from 2015-2016, for stealing the electric automaker's intellectual property in pursuit of a new venture, Aurora Innovation.

In the lawsuit, there was this interesting language:

The Autopilot features that are built into every Tesla vehicle, and continually updated through free over-the-air updates, are widely regarded as the most advanced, safest, and most reliable technology in the autonomous area. In their zeal to play catch-up, traditional automakers have created a get-rich-quick environment. Small teams of programmers with little more than demoware have been bought for as much as a billion dollars. Cruise Automation, a 40-person firm, was 12 purchased by General Motors in July 2016 for nearly $1 billion. In August 2016, Uber acquired Otto, another self-driving startup that had been founded only seven months earlier, in a deal worth more than $680 million.

Anderson and his business partners ... decided to take a run at a similar fortune.

Compared with the ascent of the electric car roughly a decade ago, the stakes seem much higher for autonomous technology. There were some legal skirmishes back then, particularly when it came to Tesla's now-CEO Elon Musk and one of the company's founders, Martin Eberhard.

But most of the electric-car startups from back then either folded or went bankrupt, leaving more-or-less Tesla alone in the space. The big automakers created some EVs, such as Nissan's Leaf, but their sales have been disappointing. In fact, to stoke the market, Tesla open-sourced its EV patents in 2014.

Tesla's battery and drivetrain technologies are distinctive (thousands of lithium-ion cells wired together, a rather more monolithic design), but electric vehicles are hardly a huge innovation — they've been around in one form or another for a century.

Self-driving tech is a different story, and no one is interested in sharing.

*Building a perfect bubble*

Taken together, the Waymo and Tesla lawsuits strongly indicate that there's a self-driving bubble developing in Silicon Valley. With less than a year of work, some engineers can sell out for hundreds of millions or a cool billion.

That's the going rate for self-driving tech that works, according to Ford's Chief Technical Officer Raj Nair. Ford just took a majority stake, to the tune of $1 billion, in Argo AI, a machine learning startup, to advance its own ambitious self-driving efforts, and the company says that $1 billion is about what it costs to develop so-called "level 4" autonomy, which is one stage shy of the vehicle completely driving itself, with no human input.

Entrepreneurs can smell money and quick, lucrative exits. The traditional carmakers are flush with cash after several years of booming US sales, and they don't want to get left behind in the race to bring self-driving cars to market. (They were far more low-key when it came to electric cars, effectively letting Tesla assume all the early risk.)

And a new arrival like Uber is riding high on its nosebleed valuation, more than $60 billion. Not moving into self-driving tech now would be catastrophic if the market shifts hard in that direction over the next decade and ride-hailing services are saddled with a massive commitment to high-cost human drivers — or have to pay up to license autonomous technologies, which is an integral part of Ford's business plan.

In other words, fear has broken out. That, rather than a meaningful market for self-driving vehicles, is swelling the bubble. Now that the lawyers have entered the picture, that bubble could be close to popping.

As autonomous vehicles have ascended and surpassed electric cars as the futuristic preoccupation of choice in the tech industry, I've experienced the ominous feeling that I've seen this movie before. While there are impressive self-driving experiments being conducted all across the USA, the technology is far from being commercialized.

The ambition is present, but it was also there when we saw numerous electric-car startups rise and fall after the financial crisis. As it turned out, while people wanted Teslas, they didn't want electric cars — sales today only amount to about 1% of the global market.

The frenzy to get bought and get bought in a hurry signals that self-driving cars could fall victim to a similar dynamic. If we see more high-profile lawsuits, I'm going to get even more worried.

The RE/MAX Northern Illinois network recently honored those members who led its fundraising efforts in 2016 for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The network donated nearly $184,000 to CMNH last year, $25,000 more than in 2015.

CHICAGO (PRWEB) February 28, 2017

The RE/MAX Northern Illinois network has long been a leading supporter of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH). Recently the network honored those members who led its fundraising efforts in 2016 when nearly $184,000 was donated to CMNH. That was an increase of more than $25,000 over the 2015 total.

RE/MAX Northern Illinois has contributed more than $3 million to CMNH since 1992.

Most funds raised by the network go to Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. However, donations from offices in the far western portion of the RE/MAX Northern Illinois region benefit the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

At its 40th Annual Awards Ceremony, held Feb. 17 at Navy Pier, RE/MAX honored the brokers and offices that were leading contributors to that effort in 2016. The awards they received featured artwork created by young patients at Lurie Children’s Hospital. Five companies received a CMNH Outstanding Citizen Award as the top fundraisers. As a group, the contributions of these companies accounted for 52 percent of the total donated to CMNH by RE/MAX Northern Illinois last year.

The 64 offices honored as Miracle Offices reached that status by meeting a minimum donation requirement to CMNH during 2016. Those offices accounted for 61 percent of RE/MAX offices in the northern Illinois region, a new record for office participation.

Angie Lotz of RE/MAX All Pro in Bloomingdale, Ill., was saluted as the 2016 Top Miracle Agent for donating $3,750 to CMNH. The Becker Group of RE/MAX Advantage Realty, Antioch, Ill., was named 2016 Top Miracle Team after donating $8,100.
