Kim provided herself with the motivation to transform when she designed a drop-dead-gorgeous dress and vowed she would do everything required to fit into it. While Kim could visualize how her slimmed-down body would look in the dress, she could also imagine how she would feel the day she wore it.

Aurora, COLO (PRWEB) September 03, 2015

Fashion designer Kim (29 years old, Honolulu, HI) designed her own successful transformation right from the very beginning of the most recent episode of the hit ABC series “Extreme Weight Loss” Season 5. Standing just 5’1” and weighing 279 pounds, Kim didn’t fit the image of her industry. She provided herself with the motivation to transform when she designed a drop-dead-gorgeous dress and vowed she would do everything required to fit into it.

The TV show’s medical director Holly Wyatt, MD says that Kim did exactly what she encourages her clients at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center to do— she began her transformation with the end in mind. Kim’s end-goal, fitting into that dress, was out in front of her from the very beginning.

Every episode of the TV show begins with a 90-day boot camp at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo. where Wyatt is associate director. She is affectionately known as “Dr. Holly” to the show’s cast members and her patients.

Dr. Holly’s weekly video blogs offer fans her insight about the latest episode plus advice on how to begin, or continue, their own weight loss transformation journeys.

Reflecting on Kim’s journey, Dr. Holly points out that beginning with the end in mind is a common theme in many successful weight loss transformations and that it ties directly into the importance of mindset in weight loss. While Kim could imagine how her slimmed-down body would look in the dress, she could also visualize how she would feel the day she wore it.

“Looking ahead to the end, thinking about how you will feel after a successful transformation and all the emotions that come with it, is powerful,” Dr. Holly said, “but, there’s a next step. After you’ve visualized what the end will be like, it’s time to take action. Decide what steps you will take to arrive at your happy, healthy ending.”

Watch Dr. Holly as she explains the benefits of beginning your weight loss transformation with the end in mind and recommends one big step you can take to make your journey successful.

Dr. Holly’s advice:·     Look ahead- begin with the end in mind
·     Identify that one thing that will motivate you ‘til the very end
·     Visualize how the new you will look
·     Visualize how the new you will feel
·     Develop a process to successfully get from the beginning to the end
·     Create an “action board”- list the steps it will take for you to see and feel the results you visualize- include photos and other inspiring images
·     Share your action boards with me on my Facebook page
·     Take time to check out all the other action boards on the page. You might find that they provide you with an extra boost of inspiration.

Dr. Holly’s participation in the TV show inspired her to create the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center’s first destination weight loss program. The weeklong Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp is designed to provide participants with the tools they need to complete their own successful weight loss transformations— without the TV cameras! Limited space is available in upcoming boot camps and weight loss seekers are encouraged to learn more and register now.

Science fiction and fantasy books

In his new novel, Kim Stanley Robinson, author of “2312,” “Shaman” and “The Mars Trilogy,” examines the fallacy in that kind of “trash one planet, move on the next” thinking. Seven generations of its approximately 2,000 human inhabitants have lived in biomes mimicking the various habitats of their home planet. Entropy, however, has had its way with many of the life support systems, with unexpected consequences. Devi keeps reminding her daughter, Freya, of this fact, preparing the young woman for the day when someone else must step up and make the hard choices that will keep as many of the crew members alive as possible. Narrated by the artificial intelligence that runs the ship, the story of “Aurora” is dense with scientific detail and told at something of an emotional remove. Countless science fiction scenarios to the contrary, leaving the solar system is never going to be easy, and Robinson makes the case for ecological balance with elegant passion in “Aurora.” Yet Freya and her space-faring cohorts do find ingenious but highly risky methods of survival away from Earth, and their tenacity in the face of the unknown is a rousing tribute to the human spirit. Most of the usual touchstones are covered — the Alger Hiss trial, the vice presidency under Eisenhower, the loss to JFK, the 1968 victory, the Watergate break-in, the historic resignation — but they are all perceived through a dark fictional lens, one that illuminates the sinister connections between Tricky Dick and the occult. Nixon gets his first terrifying glimpse behind the curtain of reality when, as a congressman, he breaks into the office of suspected spy Hiss. There he meets two Russian operatives, encounters a portal to another reality and winds up shooting the more menacing of the two spies. The supporting cast — from an otherworldly Henry Kissinger to a surprisingly dangerous Pat Nixon — is filled with familiar figures who are each given a deliciously satirical twist. Transdimensional elder gods are fitting culprits for the excesses of the late ’60s and early ’70s, and as secret histories go, “Crooked” makes more sense than many. Ernest Cline’s first novel, “Ready Player One,” the story of a virtual treasure hunt designed by an eccentric billionaire, was a geek-fest tour de force, brimming with pop culture trivia and sneaky in-jokes. [...] Cline is back with another science fiction adventure that serves as an ode to the video games and sci-fi movies of the ’80s. When gaming enthusiast Zack Lightman spies a UFO outside his high school, he’s willing to admit that he may be hallucinating. [...] as the day rolls on and things get weirder, he learns that, even though the flying saucer looks exactly like those in a popular online flight simulator, it’s a harbinger of an actual alien invasion. Karen Millen boss saddened as he leaves retailer after scrapped MBO Karen Millen boss Mike Shearwood has left the business following a scrapped management buy-out.

Shearwood, who has been at the business since 2007, is stepping down with immediate effect. Karen Millen confirmed it is not for sale “at this time”.

According to industry bible Drapers, it was a mutual agreement between Shearwood and the board.

Karen Millen chairman Neil McCausland told the magazine: “We are extremely grateful to Mike for his significant contribution to the business over the years and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

“I will be working closely with the management team to ensure the smooth and effective running of the business until a new chief executive is appointed.”

Shearwood added: “It saddens me to be leaving the brand after so many years; however, I am confident I leave behind an exceptional leadership team who will ensure the repositioning of Karen Millen continues to be a global success.”

His departure follows years of speculation around an MBO, which were fuelled further when he stepped down from the board of Aurora Fashions earlier this year.

Karen Millen was spun off from Aurora, which owns Coast, Oasis and Warehouse, in 2011.

Hey Trump, Latinos Are Heroes Too

$

Once again Donald Trump is attacking our community. He issued a campaign video featuring images of three undocumented men who were charged with murder. The first, Francisco Sanchez, was charged last month with the fatal shooting of 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle in San Francisco. The second man is Santana Gaona, who was convicted earlier this year for a 2011 murder. The third, Brian Omar Hyde, was charged with murdering his aunt, his pregnant cousin and another man.

Trump is using these violent criminals to whip up his base. His subliminal message isn't just that these are bad guys (which, of course they are, and must be punished according to the law), but he continues to tie the criminal element in with the Latino community. These men are killers and they're Latino immigrants. Therefore, all Latino immigrants are potential killers. That is as ridiculous and unfair as claiming that Timothy McVeigh (the Oklahoma bomber) or James Holmes (the Aurora theater shooter) represent every white, American male.

Well, I don't want to play this attack game. It's undignified and negative. I don't want to be part of the political mud-slinging. I want to be positive. I want to celebrate the heroes of this country, the men and women of our community who make us proud. The Latino heroes, who stepped up after 9/11 to fight for this nation's freedom.

In a speech he gave on July 8th 2004, President Bush declared 'Some 85,000 Latinos have served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. More than 100 have given their lives. Over 400 have been injured in combat. Our nation will never forget their service and their sacrifice to our security and to our freedom.' By 2009, a total of 502 brave Latinos gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many Latinos were decorated. Five of the 21 recipients of the Navy Cross were Latinos.

Donald Trump plans to rescind the Dream Act. Yet, the US military supports it. Why? Because currently there are thousands of men and women in uniform who weren't born in the United States, yet they are willing to sacrifice everything for our country. The Department of Defense understands the importance of the foreign-born to our fighting forces. The U.S. military has also implemented programs to encourage the enlistment and rapid naturalization of non‐citizens who serve honorably during a time of conflict. Without the contributions of immigrants, the military could not meet its recruiting goals and could not fill its need for foreign‐language translators, interpreters, and cultural experts.

In fact, one of the first members of the fighting forces to die in Iraq was Lance Cpl. Jose Gutierrez, an Immigrant From Guatemala who came to this country illegally. He was killed in a tank battle in southern Iraq on March 21 and was granted Citizenship Posthumously. By mid‐2009, more than 119 immigrant military members had earned their citizenship posthumously after dying in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Latinos certainly didn't renege on their obligations. We participated at all levels of the war, including those who paid the ultimate price. So, let's stop the name calling. Let's stop sending out this malignant message that we're all bad. President Bush said their service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. As another anniversary of 9/11 approaches, I am remembering and honoring them. Our presidential candidates should do so too.
