Colorado theater trial decision sent message state ‘values’ James Holmes’s life more than victims but judge maintains he was fair and impartial as was the jury

The judge who oversaw the trial of Colorado movie theater gunman James Holmes gave an impassioned defense of the jury and the trial itself on Monday after the mother of one of the wounded said Holmes’s life sentence showed more concern for the killer than for the victims.“You can’t claim there was no justice because it wasn’t the outcome you expected,” judge Carlos A Samour Jr said in an unusual speech from the bench during Holmes’s formal sentencing hearing for the 2012 attack.

New “Extreme Weight Loss” Video Blog from the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center's "Dr.Holly": Jackie Learns to Feel the Pain of Her Emotions

This week, Dr. Holly says that weight loss seekers like Jackie and her clients need to face the pain in their negative feelings. Once they stop avoiding the pain, they become strengthened in their resolve to break the habit of emotional overeating.

Aurora, COLO. (PRWEB) August 26, 2015

Overcoming guilt is the key to Jackie’s powerful weight loss transformation journey on the most recent episode of the hit ABC series “Extreme Weight Loss” Season 5. When Jackie’s teenage son Hunter was barely a toddler he was shaken at day care and suffered severe brain damage. Rather than face her emotions, Jackie turned to food to avoid the guilt she felt about putting Hunter in harm’s way.

The TV show’s medical director Holly Wyatt, MD observes that many of her clients at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center also attempt to numb their feelings with food. Every episode of the TV show begins with a 90-day boot camp at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo. where Wyatt is associate director. She is affectionately known as “Dr. Holly” to the show’s cast members and her patients.

Dr. Holly’s video blogs offer fans her insight about the latest episode plus advice on how to begin, or continue, their own weight loss transformation journeys.

This week, Dr. Holly says that when weight loss seekers like her clients and Jackie face the pain in their negative feelings rather than avoiding it, they find themselves strengthened in their resolve to break the habit of emotional overeating.

“Jackie didn’t allow herself to feel,” Dr. Holly said. “She pushed away all of her emotions around Hunter and the tragedy. Her quick fix was the food. I think what we all learn about painful feelings from Jackie is that there is no quick fix. They must be faced.”

Watch Dr. Holly as she encourages us to deal with our own negative feelings and become more emotionally strong.

Dr. Holly’s advice:·     The first step is to be aware of your feelings
·     Take stock and identify how you deal with your emotions
·     Fear-based, negative feelings like anxiety and sadness can be especially difficult to face
·     If you find yourself in front of the refrigerator for no reason or eating when you’re not hungry, stop and ask yourself why
·     Develop a new strategy for facing your emotions that replaces overeating
·     Join us on the Dr. Holly Facebook page and tell me what negative feelings and emotions you’ve been avoiding. Then, share your new ways to deal with your emotions that won’t involve food.

Dr. Holly’s participation in the TV show inspired her to create the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center’s first destination weight loss program. The weeklong Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp is designed to provide participants with the tools they need to complete their own successful weight loss transformations— without the TV cameras! Limited space is available in upcoming boot camps and weight loss seekers are encouraged to learn more and register now.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center offers some of the country’s most advanced research and science-based expertise, focusing on a comprehensive weight loss and weight management approach, including fitness, nutrition and wellness services.
