National Safety Council, Nebraska Announces Click It, Don’t Risk It PSA Contest Winners
4 High Schools or High School sponsored clubs win $2,000 – 10 win honorable mention

The National Safety Council, Nebraska today announced the winners of the Click It Don't Risk It public service announcement (PSA) contest for Nebraska high school students. The contest is part of the Click It, Don’t Risk It statewide seat belt awareness initiative to warn Nebraska teens about the dangers of driving or riding in a vehicle without using a seat belt.

“Tragically, last year, 71% of Nebraska teens who died in crashes were not wearing seat belts. Education is an important part of our strategy to increase seatbelt usage in Nebraska,” said Beverly Reicks, President/CEO of the National Safety Council, Nebraska. “It's critical that we educate teens about the danger of being unrestrained in a motor vehicle. The focus of this campaign was to create awareness and engage high school students about seat belt safety. We were thrilled with the response that we received from students across Nebraska and the campaign’s social media reach.”

As part of the PSA contest, Nebraska high school students produced a 30-second video using the theme “What have you got to lose?”. Fifty nine submissions were received from across Nebraska. Four winning PSAs -- one from each school class (A, B, C, D) – were selected along with nine honorable mention awards, including one created in Spanish. Submissions were judged on the message and a social media score tracked via Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. The campaign resulted more than 11 million impressions on social media.

The winning PSAs receive $2,000 with its video played at a theatre in or near its community. A generous contribution from AAA provided prize money for the schools earning honorable mentions. Rose White of AAA said, “I was impressed with the quality and thoughtfulness of the videos. AAA is pleased to recognize the efforts of the students who are helping to educate other teens and the public about the value of always wearing a safety belt.” Each honorable mention PSA earns $500 and some may be featured at local theatres.

Integrating EMR, ERP and existing IT systems with OnBase creates one patient record and enables better decision making.

Cleveland, OH (PRWEB) March 06, 2015

As healthcare providers create one patient record that includes DICOM images and content from disparate systems, they are using OnBase by Hyland to deliver better patient care and increase efficiency. Enterprise content management (ECM) solutions help organizations integrating their unstructured content with core IT solutions, including electronic medical records (EMR), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and existing IT applications.

The following organizations have recently integrated OnBase with their existing core IT systems:· St. Francis Care, Hartford, Conn. (Epic, PeopleSoft)
· UnityPoint Health, West Des Moines, Iowa (Epic and Lawson)
· Cone Health, Greensboro, N.C. (Epic)
· Hartford HealthCare, Hartford, Conn. (PeopleSoft and Epic)
· Rush-Copley Medical Center, Aurora, Ill. (Allscripts)
· Central Vermont Medical Center, Berlin, Ver. (Meditech)

Summit Health, Chambersburg, Penn. (Meditech)

“Our practice teams align across any EMR platform, particularly Epic, and provide the highest level of content expertise across development, sales, services and support,” said Dan Slates, manager of Global Healthcare Solutions. “This knowledge base helps our healthcare customers leverage decades of healthcare experience to create a seamless end user experience across the healthcare enterprise.”

OnBase integrates with the EMR to provide a single point of access for the entire patient record, including as much as 65 percent of the content stored outside of the EMR. Clinicians save time and resources because they are quickly presented with relevant patient content in a view they prefer within the EMR interface. This enables clinicians to make better and faster care decisions with access to the most current and comprehensive patient data.

OnBase also eliminates inefficiencies in accounting, finance, human resources by integrating with electronic resource planning (ERP) systems such as Lawson and PeopleSoft to automate workflows and create more complete records. In patient billing, OnBase streamlines the reimbursement process so staff members can focus only on exceptions and realize timelier reimbursements.

To learn why more than 1,600 healthcare organizations use OnBase, visit OnBase.com/Healthcare or attend the Midwest OnBase + Epic User Forum on March 12 at Edward Hospital in Naperville, Ill.

This is what it's like to live in 24-hours of darkness at the northernmost edge of the civilized world

This is what it's like to live in 24-hours of darkness at the northernmost edge of the civilized world Every January, my wife and I go on an annual, unusual hunting trip. We seek to see the beautiful aurora borealis northern lights.

A few weeks ago, I was unexpectedly invited to Oslo, Norway, as part of a business trip to meet with a new Norwegian client. It seemed destiny was hellbent on sending me to the Northern latitudes in winter, but I had already been to Norway before to chase auroras.

But, on all my other trips, I had experienced 20 or so hours of darkness but never the ultimate full 24 hours of polar night. I researched my options and learned that the home of the northernmost permanent settlement on Earth, the town of Longyearbyen, is administered by Norway and accessible via a (relatively) easy journey from Oslo. It was two flights away.

This was likely the closest I would ever come to visiting the North Pole, itself.

And that's how I found myself on a 3.5 day trip, and dog sledding expedition, in total darkness at the northernmost point of civilization on earth.

-The red arrow points to the Svalbard Archipelago, home to the town of Longyearbyen, the northern-most inhabited community on the planet.--My trip began in Oslo, where I was greeted by this unusual Welcome sign. Longyearbyen is two flights away.--I'm surprised to see a whole row of Teslas, charging in the center of Oslo. My hosts tell me Norway is the biggest market for Teslas outside the US and they are a "dime a dozen" here.-

Theater review: 'Edith’ misfires, but teens shine at Crowded Fire

$
0
0
Theater review: 'Edith’ misfires, but teens shine at Crowded Fire [...] as much time as the author puts into trying to dramatize the legitimate abandonment issues of tween Edith (Nicole Javier), it’s the budding secretive, then threatened romance between her brother Kenny (Wes Gabrillo) and his high-school sophomore “study buddy” Benji (Maro Guevara) that provides the most touching and dynamic moments. Edith and Kenny’s father, a doctor, has essentially abandoned them ever since the death of their mother some seven years earlier — except for replenishing their bank account, occasional unannounced (and unwelcome) visits and periodic checkup phone calls from work or his girlfriend’s house, during which he never wants to speak with Edith. Kenny, apparently, has done a credible job of making a home for himself and his sister, while fending off occasional nosy neighbors, but Pamatmat tells us this — repetitively — rather than shows it. Javier, a magnetic young babysitter in the Aurora Theatre’s “Rapture, Blister, Burn” last fall, brings a focused intensity to Edith but can’t make her conflicting parts cohere as a character, particularly in her artificial lapses into childishness. Chiang, who’s excelled with more complex material for Crowded Fire — such as Christopher Chen’s “The Hundred Flowers Project” — hasn’t found a good rhythm for Pamatmat’s highly episodic, overwritten text or the comic edge in Edith and the mother-smothered Benji’s more exaggerated traits. In some of Pamatmat’s best written scenes, Gabrillo’s capable math-whiz Kenny and Guevara’s nerdishly sweet Benji progress from adolescent curiosity and tentative bravado — using comic books, the dictionary and theoretical mathematics as sexual stimulants — through consummation to open couple-dom.
