Are Disgruntled Former Employees Behind the Whole Sony Mess? (Guest Blog)

The notion that North Korea pulled off the digital calamity that has taken down Sony’s network is ridiculous.  Unless you can imagine a team of tubby despots conniving and plotting around a conference table a la “Ocean’s Eleven,” then abandon that thought and get real. I can’t see North Korea caring about a Seth Rogen movie; on the other hand, it is easier to understand the rage of the freshly unemployed whose new priorities include maneuvering through the morass that is California unemployment and getting back at their bosses (not necessarily in that order).

Revenge would be easy with Sony’s perforated infrastructure.

It’s no secret that Sony’s security sucks.  The irony is that the PlayStation platform that Sony developed and fostered took their own facilities down.  When your platform serves a network of pre- and post-pubescent geeks who compete with each other on who can break code and breach security, you are inviting a systems hack. It happened in 2011, and the result was the release of millions of customers “data.”  According to cybersecurity experts, the PlayStation hack wasn’t “all that sophisticated” and neither was the recent hack of Sony Studios.

*Also Read:* 3 Reasons Security Experts Are Unconvinced North Korea Was Behind Sony Hack

So you have to ask: Was the door unlocked and left open, and if it was, who did it? Here’s a clue: Included in the first wave of documents that were released was a spreadsheet listing Sony Pictures employees who were fired or laid off in 2014. Along with that document were other documents that listed employee personal data including social security numbers, payroll data, and — most damning — a document that was titled “Total Cost to Sever,” which calculated the estimates of costs involved in terminating individuals’ employment.  Attached to that was a script for an in-house Sony recruiting video that has been called “cheesy” and served to embarrass HR executive George Rose and Sony Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton, who called it “The Greatest Recruiting Video Ever.”

With the release of news that Sony was hacked, the simplest reason would have led to the simplest solution.  However, we’re not into simple — we’re into drama, and we are being played.

Those that brought the Sony network down knew something that came at no surprise to many of us who complain about the skewed vision of mainstream journalism.  The data breach that featured the employment and HR data would never be the main story.  What could have been two simple dots to connect — recently fired studio techies who had motive and what appears as a revenge play — was downplayed in deference to what Amy Pascal thought of Angelina Jolie. The fact that Sony put personal and proprietary data on easily cracked Microsoft Word docs, and these docs were knowingly vulnerable by IT staff who retained pirated copies of Microsoft Office, was largely overlooked.  The lead story for a week was all about a high-powered female studio head who dared to write emails to friends and associates that any one of us would not think twice about. Amy Pascal was never the story. Amy Pascal is responsible for hundreds of millions, nay billions, for commerce and thousands of jobs. Amy Pascal and the yentas she works with only served as a smokescreen to hide the real story.

We are being played by the media, and possibly by the White House.  Calls for retaliation against North Korea based on the FBI’s assurances have probably led to a takedown of North Korea’s Internet on Monday, Dec. 23.  Are we going to wage a cyberwar over a movie?

We should be used to going to war based on lies by now.  Bush lied about WMDs and then, based on that lie, marched our children, brothers and sisters into Iraq. This left a void of power that ushered in the likes of ISIS — and now look where we are.  If you think that the war machine is any different with Obama at the helm, think again.  Once again, our collective hackles are being raised and our appetites whetted for revenge — this time not on the promise of nonexistent WMDs, but in defense of a movie.

Revenge of the Nerds!

No parent in their right mind would allow their child to sit in a crowded theater to see this film. We are reminded of the 2012 mass shooting in a theater in Aurora. Nuts who see themselves as belonging to North Korean hit squads are already trolling Facebook pages and calling Moviefone for screening times.

In typical Maury Povitch fashion, the DNA report on the deadbeat dad’s connection to the little forgotten cherub is being held aloft while the audience salivates on who is the father. In this case, the chubby loins of North Korea’s supreme leader holds no potency. The Sony hack is a child with many baby-mommies and -daddies — and they all live closer to Culver City than Pyongyang.

14 Religious Moments In 2014 That Give Us Hope For 2015

$

It has been a difficult year around the world with wars, conflicts and disease afflicting far too many people. Religion has too often played an unhelpful or even harmful role. However, throughout the year there have been stories of people of all different religions standing up for what is right, increasing understanding and peace between peoples, helping to serve humanity, and to offer a prophetic witness for justice.

Here are 14 religious moments during 2014 that give us inspiration and hope for 2015.

*Clergy took a major stand for racial equality.*

As soon as protests broke out in Ferguson over the shooting of Michael Brown, clergy were on their feet and in the street with messages of equality, justice and nonviolent action. Pastor Renita Lamkin took a rubber bullet for the cause. Others sacrificed sleep and countless hours, opening the doors of their worship houses. When protests erupted in New York for Eric Garner's death, clergy continued working tirelessly for racial equality, providing the moral backbone of a movement that will continue growing as we move into 2015.

*Muslims and non-Muslims alike took a stand against Islamophobia.*

In the face of rising Islamophobia around the world, Muslims and non-Muslims rose up to offer a counter-narrative to negative stereotypes spread in part by the Islamic State. Several Twitter hashtags effectively disseminated these positive messages, including #NotInMyName, #IllRideWithYou, #IStandUpBecause and #MuslimApologies. A group of students at Australia's Macquarie University filmed strangers' reactions to staged Islamophobic verbal attacks -- with inspiring results. Churches in Australia and Canada stood with local Muslim communities in response to antagonism, and in the U.S. families members of 9/11 victims launched and anti-Islamophobia campaign to spread a message of peace and acceptance.

*Pope Francis worked with leaders around the world to sow seeds of peace and freedom.*

In between general audiences and church events, Pope Francis stepped into his role as global peace-maker in several key regions around the globe. As news of American Alan Gross' release from Cuba spread, Pope Francis' role in facilitating a deal between the two countries quickly became known as a key element to the story. In May the pontiff traveled to the Middle East to visit some of the holiest sites in Christian, Jewish and Muslim faiths -- a trip that many saw as a turning point in Christian-Muslim relations. In November Pope Francis prayed alongside the Grand Mufti of Istanbul, Rahmi Yaran, during his trip to Turkey and later, in a crucial moment of conciliation with the Orthodox Church, the pope bowed to and asked for a blessing from Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I.

*The Nobel Peace Prize broke through religious, ethnic, gender and age lines.*

The 2014 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to two deserving recipients: Pakistani Malala Yousafzai and Indian Kailash Satyarthi for "their struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education." With Yousafzai and Satyarthi, the prize bridged the lines dividing Pakistan and India, Islam and Hinduism, female and male, elder and youth, and showed how powerful humanity's united efforts toward a common goal can be.

*Women took major strides in some denominations.*

Twenty years after women were ordained as priests, the Church of England voted to allow the appointment of women bishops and on Dec. 17 named Rev. Libby Lane as the first female bishop.

*Many Jews and Arabs refused to be enemies.*

As the Gaza conflict intensified with rocket attacks from both sides, some people promoted friendship and peace on social media with the hashtag, "Jews and Arabs refuse to be enemies."

*Some churches mobilized volunteers to help Ebola victims.*

After Liberian immigrant Eric Duncan contracted Ebola in the Vickery Meadows community in Dallas, Pastor Brent Barry of the local North Park Presbyterian Church lead an interfaith coalition of churches and temples that pledged to stand by the people of Vickery Meadows. After his church got involved, the pastor said the vacant volunteer spots filled up quickly. Many missionaries were also on the frontline of the ebola epidemic, often risking their own health, and some occasions their lives, to help those in need.

*Faith-based activists took to the streets for the environment.*

A major interfaith coalition participated marched, sang and prayed with more than 1,000 other groups at the New York City People's Climate March to demand action at the United Nations Climate Summit, which took place the following day.

*Ukraine's priests stood between police and protestors with a message of peace.*

In the midst of a bitter winter, Ukraine's Orthodox priests defied a proposed government ban by bringing prayer to the front lines of protest. Political upheaval tore through the country in late 2013, carrying through to the New Year and well into 2014. Priests joined in the midst of the protests with messages of peace and non-violence.

*Homeless Los Angelenos found loving support at the laundromat.*

Los Angeles-based deacon Scott Claassen received his Episcopal ordination in laundromat as part of Laundry Love, a program in which homeless people or anyone in need may drop by to do their laundry for free -- with quarters, soap and machines provided. It's just one example of the thousands of creative, crucial ways people are helping people in the world.

*LGBT-affirming clergy members found some major pockets of hope. *

The Judicial Council of the Methodist Church ruled that pastor Frank Schaefer was wrongly defrocked for officiating the wedding of his gay son and refusing to promise he would never perform another same-sex wedding. Schaefer was reinstated and has become a gay rights activist.

*A high school girls soccer team showed religious discrimination has no place in sports.*

When Samah Aidah was prohibited by soccer referees in Aurora, Colo. from playing in a game due to her hijab, her teammates on the Overland High School girls soccer team protested the decision by each donning the head covering and posting their photo to Twitter.

*Coca-Cola took a stand for diversity and equality.*
Coca-Cola used its prime Super Bowl ad spot to promote a message of diversity and inclusion with its "America the Beautiful" commercial. The ad featured an ensemble of Americans from different cultural backgrounds singing "America the Beautiful" in various languages with the accompanying tag lines "It's Beautiful" and "America Is Beautiful." Major corporation that it is, Coke could have run virtually any ad it wanted -- and it chose to use its voice for a powerful and important cause.

*Sikhs reminded everyone what true human decency looks like.*

2014 saw another round of reprehensible hate crimes and discrimination against Sikhs in the U.S. In the face of these attacks, Sikh individuals continued to relentlessly spread a message of peace, inclusion, forgiveness and love. As Sikh cartoonist Vishavjit Singh told HuffPost in a recent article: "The goodness of humankind, that to me is like my guiding lamp." Reported by Huffington Post 5 hours ago.

Keep Holiday Stress Under Control with These Tips from the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center

Overscheduling, expecting perfection and ignoring personal well-being all take their toll during the holidays and send stress levels skyrocketing. This season, come back to earth and get grounded with some simple advice.

Aurora, Colo. (PRWEB) December 26, 2014

Feeling stress during the holiday season is common among Americans. Some feel rushed and overscheduled, others are concerned about finances or feel pressure to buy that perfect gift.

Denise McGuire, PhD is a licensed psychologist and emotional fitness coach at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colo. McGuire pays special attention to “mindfulness” with her clients, utilizing biofeedback and other mind-body approaches for optimal health. “We have a tendency to go to extremes during the holiday season,” says McGuire. “Many of us over focus on doing and ignore our well-being which is a recipe for stress.”

In October, McGuire served as the mental and emotional fitness coach at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center’s first Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp weight loss transformation program and will return in the same role next year. The first boot camps were a sell-out success and dates have just been announced for 2015.

Not surprisingly, McGuire’s first tip for surviving the pressures of holiday stress is exercising regularly.·          Exercise: if you have a regular exercise routine, stick with it. If not, even a 15 to 20 minute walk each day will help keep you relaxed.
·     Keep it real: making the holidays perfect for yourself and for others is impossible. Manage your expectations and focus on the people in your life instead of the perfect gift.
·     Stay on schedule: keeping your regular routine as much as possible will help you stay calm. This includes sleeping, eating, working, hobbies and exercising.
·     Pace the fun: too much of a good thing can be overwhelming. Avoid overscheduling.
·     Stay positive: dwelling on the negative adds to your stress level. Focus on all the good things going on in your life.
·     Be grateful: letting others know how much you appreciate them keeps them, and you, relaxed.
·     You’re not alone: plenty of others are experiencing the same holiday stress you are. Showing some compassion for them will help keep everyone a little more calm, including yourself. Reported by PRWeb 27 minutes ago.

I Survived ‘The Interview’ And All I Got Was This Stupid Blog Post… And a Lot of Laughs

It was no more than a week ago when I advised my own mother to stay away from movie theaters on Christmas, breaking years of Jewish tradition. Could you really blame me? A group of hostile hackers had threatened “9/11-style” attacks against theaters that dared to show “The Interview,” a political comedy that the media has transformed from a mere movie into a movement.

While many initially questioned the credibility of these threats, I can’t say I was among them. “Why take a chance?” I asked myself. Who knows what the so-called Guardians of Peace are capable of? However, once the U.S. government publicly stated that there was no evidence of an imminent attack on U.S. theaters, I knew there was little to worry about and proudly bought four tickets to see “The Interview” on Christmas Day.

The hackers’ threats ultimately proved to be baseless, but I wasn’t surprised to learn that the three grown men with whom I attended the film were nervous about going to the theater. Before seeing the movie, one of my friends said the movie felt “patronizing” and “antagonizing,” and worried that a supporter of North Korea could exact revenge at a screening, recalling the Aurora tragedy.

*Also Read:* Sony Hackers Threaten 9/11 Attack on Theaters That Show ‘The Interview’

Rational or not, my friends’ fears were understandable, but with nothing else to do on Christmas, we decided to attend the 4:20 showing at The Crest in Westwood, where there appeared to be no visible increase in security. I overheard a theater manager explaining to one concerned patron that there were no problems during an earlier showing and, thus, no reason to worry.

The Channel 2 news was interviewing ticket buyers and, having an idea what they were after, I volunteered to brave the cameras sans hair and makeup. The reporter was surprised to discover I had already seen the movie — I attended a press screening several weeks ago — but I told him I was there to support co-directors Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. “The Interview” made me laugh a lot once and I had returned to laugh again. I also said that while I could certainly understand how some might view the movie as offensive, I believe Seth and Evan had every right to make it. As terrible as the past month has been for everyone involved in “The Interview,” especially Sony, it was also inspiring to see America rally around its release, which has turned into a cause celebre for politicians, the Hollywood community and the press.

At times like these, humor is important, and perhaps the funniest thing about the scary Sony ordeal of the past month is how a film ultimately paid for by a Japanese company, directed by two Canadians and shot in Canada has become a symbol of American values including freedom of expression.

Anyway, we entered The Crest and bought concessions, including $7 rocket-shaped souvenir cups of soda, which will surely be collectors items in the future. How much would the Supreme Leader pay me for one just so he could destroy it?

The theater was noticeably tense before the screening started. My own friends got into a brief verbal altercation due to one’s considerable height and the addition of several rows of folding chairs, while the people next to me were talking about how they’d heard the film was bad but they were curious about it given all the media attention and wanted to see it for themselves.

Eventually people started slow-clapping and the entire theater burst into spontaneous applause as the curtains at the front of the house parted. You could tell the audience was ready to laugh.

There were no trailers. Hell, none of the studios deserved the opportunity to advertise their safe wares in front of such a “dangerous” movie, given their partial responsibility for the screen count drop for “The Interview.” The movie opened on 300+ screens, or approximately 10% of the 3,000+ screens that were originally planned before major theater chains (again, understandably) backed away from the hot-button film.

Rogen and Franco didn’t pop in to rile up the crowd like some of the other pre-arranged photo ops that other publications have covered, and only half the Crest crowd stuck around for the cute joke after the credits, but the audience seemed to enjoy itself throughout the movie, which earned big laughs at several points. The opening Eminem sequence was particularly popular, as was the unexpectedly gory climax featuring severed body parts.

*Also Read:* Seth Rogen and James Franco’s New York ‘Interview’ Premiere Canceled by Landmark Theatres

As someone who had already seen “The Interview” watching it on Christmas through a different sociopoltical lens, the film held up upon second viewing, and I maintain that it says a few positive things about North Korea. The movie features a fun romance between Rogen and Canadian Diana Bang, who plays head of communications for Kim Jong-un. Meanwhile, the dastardly dictator, played to perfection by Randall Park, bonds with James Franco‘s Dave Skylark over Daddy issues and a shared love of American culture ranging from pop star Katy Perry to top-rated sitcom “The Big Bang Theory,” suggesting a common ground.

After the incident-free screening, my friends and I went out for Chinese food at Fu’s Palace, where they each revealed that they really liked “The Interview,” with two of them thinking it was better than Rogen and Goldberg’s last film, “This Is the End.” We should’ve ordered margaritas to commemorate our survival, but you can’t argue with free tea on a cold December day.

“The Interview” is currently available on YouTube, GooglePlay and other digital platforms… as well as select theaters. Mom, it’s safe to go to the movies. Go have a laugh.

First Manned Commercial Suborbital Research Program to Qualify Scientist-Astronauts

Project PoSSUM to hold inaugural scientist-astronaut qualification program this February at the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. with a mission to study global climate through the study of elusive 'space clouds'.

Boulder, Colorado (PRWEB) December 29, 2014

Project PoSSUM, a non-profit suborbital research program, announces the first PoSSUM scientist-astronaut class to be held at the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla., Feb. 7 - 10, 2015. This unique opportunity allows individuals to train with some of the world’s leading upper atmospheric scientists and to fly to space as part of an international research campaign dedicated to the study of global climate. The four-day, fully immersive qualification program was designed by former NASA astronaut instructors to provide its candidates with the skills required to effectively conduct research on commercial space vehicles as part of Project PoSSUM.

PoSSUM, an acronym for Polar Suborbital Science in the Upper Mesosphere, uses commercial suborbital spacecraft and high-altitude manned balloons to study rare “space clouds” called noctilucent clouds. These elusive clouds can help scientists address critical questions about the Earth’s climate, but they can only be seen from polar latitudes during a small window of time in the summer.

Twelve initial astronaut candidates will learn how to image noctilucent clouds using a customized imagery system called ‘PoSSUMCam’, operate PoSSUM remote-sensing instruments, and recognize cloud features of the greatest scientific interest. The candidates will also receive crew resource management training through custom simulation designed in collaboration with Embry Riddle and Sundog Software. Candidates receive further instruction in spacesuit operations, high-altitude environments, and high-g operations. Upon graduation, candidates will be fully trained and qualified to fly to space as part of a PoSSUM deployment.

“PoSSUM is not about space tourism. PoSSUM is about realizing the new opportunities presented by commercial manned spacecraft to enable science of global benefit. PoSSUM is about engaging and educating people about the pivotal role that our atmosphere plays in the study of global climate. Every PoSSUM scientist-astronaut is an ambassador of this mission,” said PoSSUM Principal Investigator Dr. Jason Reimuller.

PoSSUM evolved from the Noctilucent Cloud Imagery and Tomography experiment, selected by NASA’s Flight Opportunities Program in March 2012 as experiment 46-S. Among those candidates that will train in February will be Cosmonaut Ronnie Nader and a team from Ecuador, who will be modeling elements for their own national space program from the PoSSUM program.

The PoSSUM noctilucent cloud research campaigns are currently scheduled to begin in July 2016, and the scientist-astronauts that complete the program will be a part of the first group of astronauts qualified to fly over Earth’s polar latitudes, where noctilucent clouds and aurora are present, using either a manned reusable suborbital vehicle, such as the XCOR Lynx, or a high-altitude manned balloon. Never before has an astronaut or cosmonaut flown over polar latitudes.

For updates on Project PoSSUM and this inaugural class, or to apply to the program, please visit http://www.projectpossum.org.

About Project PoSSUM: Project PoSSUM is a pending 501(c)3 suborbital research project that uses commercial space vehicles to study the upper atmosphere. PoSSUM develops, tests, and integrates space hardware for use on commercial space vehicles and organizes deployments of spacecraft for space research campaigns. PoSSUM also engages the public directly through its Scientist-Astronaut program, administered by PoSSUM team scientists through the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. PoSSUM is managed by Integrated Spaceflight Services (http://www.integratedspaceflight.com). To learn more about Project PoSSUM, visit http://www.projectpossum.org. Reported by PRWeb 20 hours ago.

Two parents are currently under investigation for allegedly beating their two-month-old baby boy to death on Christmas Day.

Paramedics received a phone call on Thursday night from Kayla Edwards, who told them that her baby boy had stopped breathing. They rushed to the Montana home on the 200 block of Terry avenue to find the baby in critical condition.

When they examined the infant child, they found numerous “suspicious” injuries on his body and called the police. Kayla Edwards and her husband, Brandon, were then arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, the 23-year-old mother “struck her son in the head so hard that she caused a brain injury.” It added that the mother also “strangled her son to prevent him from breathing.”

Brandon Edwards, 28, reportedly confessed to watching and allowing his wife to abuse their baby boy in an interview with police. He also admitted to choking his two-month-old baby on a separate occasion.

The baby died at 3:48 am on Saturday in Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora. The child is believed to have a twin sister.

Both parents are currently in custody at Yellowstone County while police continue their investigation.

“We’re just waiting for the county attorney’s office to see what the actual charges might be, since the baby died,” Billings Police Department Lieutenant Jeremy House told the Billings Gazette.

According to Deputy Yellowstone County Attorney Chris Morris, the parents are expected to make an initial court appearance on Monday.

14 Out-Of-The-Box Awards For The Celebrity Baby Names Of 2014

$
0
0
14 Out-Of-The-Box Awards For The Celebrity Baby Names Of 2014 2014 was an amazing year for starbaby names. The names celebrities chose for their babies ranged from classics like Rosemary, Frances, Evelyn and Eric to gender-benders, oddball spellings, and words refigured as names.

This year, parents gave their daughters traditionally males name -- celebrity daughters included Wyatt, Asa, Bowie, River and Mars. Other trends included generic nature names like Vale and Delta, vintage choices like Hazel and Jane and Rose, and lots of nickname names, including Drew Barrymore’s cute Frankie.

Here are the Nameberry Awards for the best, the worst, and the wildest:

*Best smoosh name*

*Elizabella*, daughter of Alyssa Milano

Merging the megapopular classic Elizabeth with the overworked "Twilight"-infused Bella yields a lovely new name, one we can expect to see more of. This also gets the Celebrity Name Most Likely to be Imitated Award.

*Longest alliterative sibset*

*Hayley*, *Hannah* & *Harper*, daughters of Bill Hader

The recent arrival of third daughter Hayley rounds out this trifecta of HH-monogrammed girls in the Hader family. Not exactly reaching the Duggar dimension, but a good start.

*Most adorable alliterative pairing*

*Josie* *James*, daughter of Scott Caan

We’re loving the rhythm of James Caan’s grandbaby’s name and the idea of combining a nostalgic vintage nickname with the classic, traditionally male name of her grandpa. Others in this category are Marshall Allman’s June Joanne, Eva Amurri Martino’s Marlowe Mae, Kelly Clarkson’s River Rose, and Bijou Phillips’ Fianna Francis.

*Best roots-inspired name*

*Philomena*, daughter of Daphne Oz

Philomena is moving in on last year’s Penelope as the new Greek name on the block, chosen as a first name by "The Chew’s" Daphne Oz (daughter of Dr. Oz) and as a middle by Megan Hilty for her daughter Viola. Runner up is Esmeralda, the seductive choice of Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling, inspired by "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" character.

*Most surprising girls’ middle-name sensation*

*Monroe*, ubiquitous

Before Mariah Carey bestowed this name on her twin daughter in 2011, in tribute to her idol Marilyn, Monroe was a middle-aged accountant with a name that hadn’t been in the Top 1000 for forty years. It has now become a middle name du jour, picked by Jenna Von Oy (Marlowe Monroe), Tila Tequila (Isabella Monroe), Rosie Pope (Bridget Monroe), and yes, even for one boy, Poppy Montgomery’s Gus Monroe.

*Revived vintage name with most dramatic turnaround*

*Hazel*, daughter of Emily Blunt and John Krasinski

What a difference a decade makes. Regarded as fusty and frumpy when Julia Roberts chose it in 2004, Hazel has had a complete image reversal, now seen as a soft and appealing nature name. She’s well on her way, now at Number 157, and likely to go higher as a result of the celebrity link.

*Most bizarre name inspiration*

*Sunday*, daughter of Mike Myers

Mike, also dad to Spike, explained the day-of-the-week choice for his daughter was because “Me and my wife Kelly hate Sundays” -- so it’s now this little girl’s challenge to turn that around. An even more bizarre inspiration was Jason Biggs’ son Sid, whose mom, Jenny Mollen, said, “He’s not this sweet baby I thought I’d have…so we decided on Sid, because Sid Caesar had just died and I liked Sid Vicious and he just felt like a little old man in a pinstriped suit, betting on the ponies. Okay!

*Most androgynous sibset*

*Poet*, *Jagger* & *Lyric*, children of Soleil Moon Frye

Uniquely named Soleil Moon Frye welcomed son Lyric Sonny Roads this year, joining sisters Poet Sienna Rose and Jagger Joseph Blue.

*Most surreal sibset*

Pete Wentz’s newborn *Saint* *Lazslo*, joining big bro Bronx Mowgli.

*Most forward-looking baby name*

*Future*, son of Ciara and Future

The rapper born Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn opted to bestow on his son his optimistic stage name.

*Latest reality show possibility*

*Jaxie*, daughter of Mackenzie Douthit

The reality show "Teen Mom" has shown its powerful influence before -- when Bentley, the stuffy British surname/luxe car brand, zoomed up the charts via the son of teen star Maci Bookout, and again with the boy name Jace, a "Teen Mom 2" pick. Jaxie is right in line to follow, with its bouncy feel and resemblance to already popular Max, Jax, and Jaxon et al.

*Craziest combo*

*Buzz* *Michelangelo*, son of Tom Fletcher

The McFly crooner merged the name of an astronaut/"Toy Story" character with a great Italian Renaissance sculptor. Really? And yet somehow it works. Runner up is Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green’s Bodhi Ransom, combining the conflicting concepts of enlightenment and criminal payoff.

*Most fairy-tale-brought-to-life name*

*Briar* *Rose*, daughter of Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen

Instead of the more predictable Aurora, this celeb couple went for her Disneyfied alternate name in Sleeping Beauty, projecting an ethereal aura that will cling to this girl for life.

*Breeziest baby name*

*Zephyr*, son of Sean Parker

…And finally…..

*Battle of the Titans -- or which starbaby will rule the world competition*

Will Kourtney Kardashian’s Reign reign or will L’il Kim’s Royal Reign reign? Will Kelly Rowland’s Titan be more titanic? Will Jenelle Evans’s Kaiser live up to the meaning -- emperor -- of his name? Or will Gwen Stefani’s Greek sun god Apollo become all-powerful? Or perhaps Omarion’s Megaa prove to be the most mega of all? Stay tuned.

Production company racks up 15 medals for work in corporate and educational sectors, including CINE Golden Eagle and Aurora Awards’ Platinum Best of Show.

Chatham, New Jersey (PRWEB) December 29, 2014

Tribe Pictures, the production company that helps corporations, non-profits and educational institutions humanize themselves through the power of film, has wrapped up 2014 on a winning streak.

Work the company strategized, concepted and produced over the course of the year has been recognized with 15 major awards from a range of festivals around the country, including the four Platinum Best of Show winners at the Aurora Awards and a CINE Golden Eagle. In addition, Tribe Pictures’ work scored at INTERCOM, the non-theatrical, corporate and educational film festival that’s part of the Chicago International Film Festival, at the US International Film Festival and at the Telly Awards.

(To view some of Tribe’s recent and archival work, click http://tribepictures.com/our-work/, or check out the News section of its web site at http://tribepictures.com/news-views/news/.)

Leading the winners list was “Build, Connect, Protect,” produced for Stanley Black & Decker, which promotes the company’s diverse products and services in the consumer, industrial and security sectors. It also won one of Tribe’s four Platinum Best of Show honors at the Aurora Awards as well as a Silver Plaque from INTERCOM and a Certificate of Creative Excellence from the US Interna-tional Film Festival.

Also winning Platinum Best of Show recognition at the Auroras were “Heart Center,” which profiles the accomplishments of the Montefiore Einstein Center for Heart and Vascular Care at Montefiore Medical Center in New York; a fast-paced review of market and business development efforts on the part of global financial services company KPMG; and a case study video on a successful marketing campaign in the Philippines for Colgate-Palmolive.

Three separate Tribe Pictures projects for Hess Corporation were honored in 2014. “Digital Rock Labs,” a look at the high-technology efforts Hess is putting into extracting oil from the Bakken formation, and “Values: Integrity in the North Sea,” which examines the company’s work at decommissioning oil wells in the North Sea, both took Gold Medals at the Aurora Awards, with “Digital Rock Labs” also winning a Silver at INTERCOM. “Safety Offshore,” a film that details the company’s commitment to safety on its oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, was recognized with a Bronze at the Telly Awards.

Tribe’s film for PSE&G, the New Jersey-based electric and gas utility, was honored with a CINE Golden Eagle. It highlights the demanding work of the company’s Delivery Projects & Construction division, tasked with maintaining and up-dating its power grid and gas lines, and uses the stories of its employees as a powerful recruiting tool to attract new talent.

Another Gold winner, this time at the Aurora Awards, was a film Tribe made for the pharmaceutical company Actavis-Anda that underscores its commitment to small, independent pharmacies.

Tribe also won a Certificate of Excellence from the US International Film Festival and achieved Certificate status at INTERCOM for an investor relations film produced for the energy company BHP Billiton, and won a Bronze Telly for an upbeat student recruitment film produced for the University of Vermont.

“The common thread to all this work is that we tell and show the stories of these companies and institutions in plainly human terms that generate emotional responses,” says Tribe Pictures Founder and CEO Vern Oakley, who served as Creative Director on the projects. “That’s what our clients recognize, it’s what our audience values and it’s clearly what impressed the juries of these great competitions. And for that we’re appreciative and flattered.” Reported by PRWeb 13 hours ago.

Chase the Holiday Blues Away with Help from the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center

The first step toward managing holiday depression is recognizing the symptoms. The second step is taking action to fight it off.

Aurora, Colo. (PRWEB) December 30, 2014

For many people the holidays are not “the most wonderful time of the year” as the famous song proclaims but rather a season that brings on feelings of depression. Contributing factors include financial constraints, unrealistic expectations, the inability to be with family and friends for a variety of reasons, overwhelming schedules, stress, lack of sleep, not following a daily routine, overeating and drinking too much.

This holiday season McGuire is preparing to return to the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center’s Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp w eight loss transformation program as its mental and emotional fitness coach. The first boot camp sessions sold out in October and registration is already open for 2015.

McGuire says the first step toward managing holiday depression is recognizing the symptoms in yourself and in others. Be on the lookout for changes in sleep patterns, significant changes in appetite, irritability, excessive feelings of guilt, difficulty concentrating, eating for comfort and no longer enjoying familiar activities and festivities.

She offers these tips to keep the holiday blues from settling in or to chase them away.· Acknowledge your feelings: remember that feeling sad, lonely, or melancholy is normal, even during the holidays. Be honest with yourself, acknowledge the feelings and know that they will pass.
· Practice wellness: try to stay on your normal eating routine and be sure to exercise three to five times a week. Just a 15 to 20 minute walk will do wonders for mind and body.
· Talk to a friend: sharing your feelings with a trusted friend helps bring clarity and improve your spirits. Just saying the words out loud can lift your mood.
· Manage your expectations: recognize that the holiday season won’t be as perfect as you’ve imagined it. Examine your expectations and adjust them accordingly.
· Family fairytale: don’t compare your family or life to that of others. Every family has its own challenges and most don’t look like the perfect ones we see in the movies.
· Be grateful: accentuate the positive and focus on what you have rather than the things you think are missing in your life.
· Volunteer: helping others will give you a sense of purpose. Reaching beyond yourself can be a real blues-beater.
· Connect with others: force yourself to reach out. Interaction with the positive people in your life can help take your mind off the things that are bringing you down.
· Make sleep a priority: 7-8 hours a night isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity to your mental well-being.
· Avoid excess: too much of a good thing can bring you down. Drinking too much alcohol, eating foods high in sugar and fat, and spending money you don’t have all contribute to the holiday blues. Reported by PRWeb 2 hours ago.
