GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Stationery Products markets. Global market for Stationery Products is projected to reach US$169.2 billion by 2020, driven by growing levels of literacy and the ensuing rise in demand for educational supplies, and proliferation of home offices.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) November 12, 2014

Follow us on LinkedIn – Writing is an important component of life at all stages right from early education to employment, and therefore ubiquitous stationery products like pens, pencils and paper have a place in homes, offices, businesses and classrooms around the world. Ever-rising population, growing number of schools, colleges, and universities, and subsequent rise in student admissions across the world has been fostering demand for a range of educational stationery products worldwide. Over the years, stationery products have expanded to include a range of office supplies and gift items. Increase in the number of business enterprises and workforce mobility induced proliferation of home offices are driving demand for desktop organization products, conference & presentation accessories, writing instruments and other office essentials.

Sales in the market to a large extent are highly cyclical in nature, with sales peaking during back-to-school period, and special seasons and occasions. This is particularly true in the case of school supplies, the demand for which typically peaks during school re-opening season. Holiday seasons like Christmas and New Year spur demand for greeting cards and party goods, when exchanging cards, gifts such as dairies, calendars, novelty pens, among others, is a ‘must-do’ in everyone’s list of priorities. In the corporate sector, sales of office supplies peak during the beginning of the calendar year or during the end of the financial year. The dawn of the computer age interestingly has generated strong demand for a new class of stationery products, such as, printing papers, copying papers, billing rolls, inked ribbons, and cartridges, among others.

The education sector represents the major end-use market, supported by scores of students globally requiring basic educational aids such as writing instruments, paper-based stationery products, and marking devices, among others. Educational institutions typically place bulk orders annually for stationery products for students, teachers and administrative staff. Banking and finance, architecture, and retail sectors also generate considerable demand for products such as marking devices, writing pads, binders, mailing supplies, and writing instruments, among others. Increase in enterprise activity including new office starts and branch expansions are helping boost market prospects for a range of office stationery supplies. Another factor driving growth in the market is the strong focus of manufacturers on product development and enhancements. Innovation is especially critical in the writing instruments sector as manufacturers seek to push these products as articles appropriate for gift giving. Introduction of new generation multifunctional writing instruments with enhanced features, such as pens with smartphone & tablet-optimized stylus, will spur growth in the market.

As stated by the new market research report on Stationery Products, the United States represents the largest market worldwide. Asia-Pacific ranks as the fastest growing market with a CAGR of 6.3% over the analysis period. Growth in the region is led by growing base of young students and professionals, increasing levels of employment, high disposable spends, strong economic growth, and rise in entrepreneurial skills and the resulting mushrooming of businesses across all sectors of manufacturing, services and retail.

Key players covered in the report include A. T. Cross Company, ACCO Brands Corporation, Adveo Group International SA, American Greetings Corporation, Archies Limited, Aurora DUE s.r.l., CSS Industries Inc., Dixon Ticonderoga Company, Groupe Hamelin, Hallmark Cards Inc., Herlitz PBS AG, International Greetings Plc, International Writing Instrument Corp., Kokuyo Co. Ltd., Letts Filofax Group Ltd., Mitsubishi Pencil Co. Ltd., Newell Rubbermaid Inc., Office Depot Inc., Pentel Co. Ltd., Pilot Corporation, Pilot Pen Corporation of America, PT Pabrik Kertas Tjiwi Kimia TBK, Richemont, Montblanc International GmbH, Societe BIC, Staples Advantage, and ST Dupont SA, among others.

Amazon's Latest Plan To Make Its Cloud Business Really Huge (AMZN)

Amazon's Latest Plan To Make Its Cloud Business Really Huge (AMZN) Jeff Bezos believes that Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud which hosts applications, could become its biggest business.

Today at the reInvent conference, AWS leader Andy Jassy said that Bezos and the "rest of the leadership team" believe "it is very possible that AWS could be the biggest business at Amazon," TechCrunch reports.

Right now, that's far from the case — in Amazon's last earnings report, the "other" segment, which includes AWS, had $1.4 billion in revenues, about 7% of the company's total. While Amazon is by far the dominant player in the space, growth has been slowing this year.

And Amazon is facing all sorts of competition including big names like Google, which is making a pretty serious play in cloud computing, and Microsoft, which views its Azure cloud computing platform as vital to its future and is putting a lot of sales and marketing push behind it. Amazon's cloud also competes with IBM, Salesforce, HP, and just about every other big name in tech.

So how does Amazon intend to grow its cloud so big when competition means keeping prices low?

By pouring on ever more features, making its cloud very difficult to beat.

The announcements at reInvent focused entirely on what AWS can do, and will be able to do.

There's Aurora, a new kind of hosted database that Amazon claims is ready for big commercial transactions. It's compatible with MySQL, an open source database technology overseen by Oracle, but Amazon says it will cost one-tenth as much. There are also a lot of other nuts and bolts features that will help developers manage the code for their applications more efficiently and improve security. (ZDnet has a good list.)

But Amazon was completely silent on price. And that's interesting because Amazon had 45 price cuts in about the past six years, it says.

Instead, the company seems to be hoping that more and more customers will move their old applications to Amazon's cloud service, and it's giving them more sophisticated tools to do that.

It's a smart move, and one that enterprise leaders have used many time in the past when confronted with low-cost competitors — instead of continuing to treat your product as a commodity with a never-ending price war, you add unique features that competitors are pressed to match.

Stop the Media's Reckless Provocation of Violence in Ferguson

$
0
0
We've collectively missed the point, allowing the media to redirect the narrative surrounding the shooting of Michael Brown.  I know, I'm a member of said media, so I'm at least partially culpable for not having done more to stem this tide.  Since Aug. 9 the public has been misled into equating "justice" with a grand jury indictment against Ferguson officer Darren Wilson.

Have we not learned anything from the trial of George Zimmerman?

An indictment is not the justice Brown supporters are searching for, and its constant positioning as such is tremendously damaging and dangerous.  And given the questionable procedural decisions by prosecutor Bob McCulloch and the Ferguson police department's selective leaks, any subsequent trial is already doomed.

Let's be clear on who Bob McCullough is and his path to becoming prosecutor.

McCulloch's father was a police officer who was killed  by an African-American man when McCulloch was 12. McCulloch's brother, cousin and even an uncle all served with the St. Louis Police Department.  That's not even including his mother, who worked there as a clerk.

McCulloch's original life ambition was to be a police officer like his father, but due to cancer, which led to a leg amputation, that dream was taken.  Instead, McCulloch chose to pursue becoming a prosecutor, as it was "the next best thing."

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:

In 2001, two undercover drug officers from Dellwood shot and killed two men on the parking lot of a Jack in the Box in north St. Louis County. The officers said the suspects, who had prior felony convictions for drug and assault offenses, tried to escape arrest and then drove toward the officers.

A subsequent federal investigation showed that the men were unarmed and that their car had not moved forward when the officers fired 21 shots and killed the suspects, Earl Murray and Ronald Beasley. The probe, however, also concluded that because the officers feared for their safety, the shootings were justified.

McCulloch refused to prosecute the officers.  St. Louis has a documented history of facts not always making their way into the investigation of police officers killing unarmed citizens. McCulloch has a long, documented and questionable history of siding with law enforcement, even if the facts urge otherwise.  But the subjectivity of "feared for their safety," even in the absence of a weapon or evidence to support the official narrative, is not lost on the residents of St. Louis County when the discussion turns to Michael Brown.

The false narrative largely promulgated by the media has been that the unrest in Ferguson is mostly, if not solely, about the killing of Michael Brown.  It's untrue, and we the public have been complicit in this.  The issues of police brutality and judicial injustice never play out in a vacuum, but we've allowed the issue of Ferguson to be portrayed as such.

This is not and never been just about Michael Brown.  As the unrest in the wake of the Rodney King verdict wasn't just about Rodney King.  It was also about Latasha Harlins, a 15-year-old girl shot in the back of the head for supposedly trying to steal a single bottle of orange juice.  She died with the money in her hand.  All of it was caught on video.  The Korean grocer Son Ja Du received probation and community service.  Harlins' video appeared 13 days after the Rodney King police beating video.

The discussion in past weeks has been about how Ferguson law enforcement and law-abiding citizens are preparing for an eventual grand jury decision and whether it will lead to violence. Most outlets have been strident in their coverage in a hopeful, self-fulfilling-promise sort of way.  I get it: "Rioting" make for ratings, and so does the fear-mongering that precedes it.  But we should see it for what it is.

Curiously enough, even though there is violence annually because some team in some city won some championship, or even something more inane like a pumpkin festival takes place, news outlets and commentators instead have worked overtime whipping the Ferguson community into a frenzy, arguably outright rooting for violence.  It's been irresponsible and downright shameful.

The last time we saw such reprehensible drumbeats forecasting African-American violence, it never materialized.  George Zimmerman went free, and the previous months of predictions were miles off the mark.

But back to Ferguson....

If you view a grand jury indictment as either "justice" or a step towards justice, you are deceiving yourself.  Finding probable cause and bringing charges do not suggest prosecutor Bob McCulloch is remotely committed to putting a St. Louis officer in jail, much less for killing an African-American man.

True justice requires more than merely publicizing the process. It must also be transparent and without even the appearance of bias and impropriety.

Is this case about race?

Ferguson residents and the multitude of African Americans around the country will say it is. The Justice Department has run a parallel investigation to assess whether Brown's rights were violated for reasons specifically relating to race.  And this too is about how poorly expectations have been managed. The reality is that there is less chance of the DOJ filing charges than of Bob McCulloch doing so.

That was not a typo.  I do mean less of a chance.

That's not an indictment (no pun intended) of the DOJ but an acknowledgment of the much narrower scope of its investigation. Conceivably, Wilson could be indicted and later found guilty of manslaughter or homicide with that having no bearing on whether federal charges would be brought forth.  Because this has been less discussed, explained and emphasized, many have an unfair and unrealistic expectation of what is to happen and the reasons why. The DOJ isn't on the ground as insurance but instead for a different type of investigation.  Better and more comprehensive news coverage would have gone a long way toward deescalating the situation leading up to the eventual grand jury decision.

We in the media failed miserably in best informing the masses.  We the public need to be clear what is about to happen and why.

Instead, we have thousands of people all around the country pinning their hopes on an unlikely indictment, which would only proceed to an even less likely guilty verdict at trial.  And all of it would be under the direction of a prosecutor who has been behaving more as counsel for the defense than an agent of the state every step of the way.

Poorly managed expectations are what lead to tremendous disappointment and unrest.  The anger is absolutely justified, but disappointment will not be.  We should be angry, but not surprised or even disappointed.  The St. Louis/Ferguson authorities have clearly shown us who they are.

Believe them.

At the heart of the matter is the well-earned distrust of the process as a whole.  With a non-existent police incident report, medical report or X-rays to validate an extensively rumored eye injury to Wilson, the Ferguson police department has rightfully earned more than just a healthy level of skepticism.  But for their efforts, they also were delivered a well-tainted jury pool.

From the mishandling of Brown's body to the selective leaking of toxicology and grand jury testimony, the Ferguson authorities not only have "unclean hands" but have waved them wildly with double middle fingers extended for all to see.

Justice will not be found in any such process or even in any indictment.  It is virtually unheard of to not complete an incident report in an officer-involved shooting death.  Ferguson said it turned the case over to county authorities... but somehow managed to complete and release the liquor store incident report, although it only happened mere minutes before the Wilson confrontation.  The absence of an incident report is key for the same reasons we don't allow witnesses to compare testimonies or jurors to follow case media coverage.  It is almost equally unheard of to allow a four-hour testimony of the defendant in a grand jury proceeding in lieu of an incident report that would have locked in the officer to certain details.

Officer Wilson didn't even call in the shooting; the department was allegedly notified by outside sources.

You can't trust any result in which the process that precedes it isn't trustworthy.  The integrity of the process is equally important as the result.

If you are hoping for an indictment, you are deluding yourself.  And even if there is an indictment, it is delaying the inevitable for all the reasons listed above.

But the greatest injustice is the desire for some in the media to incite, encourage and expect violence in Ferguson, choosing not to more substantively address the underlying issues.

Eric Frein allegedly ambushed a state trooper and hid from authorities for some 50 days... and lived to tell about it.  Jared Loughner shot a congresswoman in the head while in the process of killing six other people and still had his day in court.  James Holmes killed 12 people in an Aurora, Colorado, movie theater, and there are plenty of pictures available for you on the Internet showing Holmes sitting in court in a bright-orange jumpsuit.  Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev helped kill four, including an MIT police officer, injured 264 and ended up in an all-out firefight with police.

Tsarnaev's trial began Nov. 3.

Yet the overwhelming response from those who side with Darren Wilson is that Michael Brown either "deserved it" or "had it coming."

This is saying nothing about the reality that Brown was shot multiple times on the inside of his arm, which is impossible to hit if he were charging Wilson but absolutely consistent with hands being raised in a surrender position.  Brown was shot at least six times, with the kill shot coming in a downward trajectory from back to front, "at a distance," per the autopsy report.   If Brown were 5-foot-4, not 6-foot-4, or if Wilson were holding his gun up above his head while standing on his tippy toes, this wouldn't be so troublesome.  But to achieve such an angle while "charging" the officer, Brown literally would have to be bent down, looking at his toes while running headlong, hands down and palms up into an officer shooting at him from a considerable distance away. But people rarely actually rely on facts, forensics, autopsy and ballistics when forming these  opinions.  It's little different than saying Trayvon Martin jumped out of the bushes to pummel Zimmerman for "no reason," despite the absence of Zimmerman DNA on Martin.  It didn't matter that Zimmerman had both the gun and the history of violence against a police officer.  Trayvon "deserved it."

Accordingly, for many supporters of Wilson, the details simply don't matter.  The preceding act of stealing $50 worth of cigars ended any right to due process in their minds.  Yes, Brown was also shot in the hand at "close range" but was killed "at a distance." Also, being shot at close range doesn't mean Brown was grabbing for Wilson's gun; it's equally plausible his hand was in a defensive position. Nonetheless, the prevailing narrative is that Brown attacked Wilson, was shot, ran down the street and decided to turn around and charge an already shooting Wilson.  There is no audio evidence of Wilson having offered any verbal command prior or during shooting.

Brown "deserved it."

Except that rule of thumb seemingly doesn't apply to mass shooters, domestic terrorists and cop killers.  Only the unarmed folks end up dead and "deserve" it.

Noted.

Yes, people rightfully question this process as well as the prosecutor in charge of it.

Michael Brown deserved a trial and the opportunity to explain his actions in a court of law.  If Eric Frein, James Holmes, Jared Loughner and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev could get that, I'm sure unarmed Michael Brown could've gotten that too.

Stop the shameful media predictions of violence in Ferguson.  It's irresponsible, reckless and unforgivable.  Report what actually happens if and when it occurs, not what you hope to happen.

Apollo Minerals intersects potential IOCG in Olympic Dam corridor

Apollo Minerals (ASX:AON) has intersected what appears to be a significant new IOCG system in the final hole at its Titan Project in South Australia’s Gawler Craton.

Diamond hole 14NB001, drilled as part its maiden IOCG0-targeted program at the Eaglehawk Joint Venture, intersected the very top of a magnetite rich IOCG system which remains open in all directions.

Significant IOCG alteration and mineralisation has been identified along a discontinuous length of approximately 60 metres to the end of hole.

Sulphides are evident along veins and in disseminated form through alteration zones.

Alteration and mineralisation in this hole may be of the same style as IOCGs in the nearby Mount Woods Domain, host to the major Prominent Hill IOCG mine.

Assays from this hole are due by the end of November while a number of targets are now being reviewed for further IOCG potential.

“These are exciting and highly encouraging results and provide the strongest evidence to date that the Titan Project has the very real potential to host the next major IOCG discovery,” chief executive officer Dominic Tisdell said.

“It’s early days in an exploration sense but we continue to be encouraged by indications of widespread intrusive activity in the Titan Project which we are confirming as part of the IOCG mineralising Hiltaba Granite event.

“The purpose of our recent drilling program was to test the very top of a number of targets for verifiable signs of IOCG alteration.

“The indication that Hiltaba intrusives are associated with a significant zone of iron-rich alteration and sulphide mineralisation in 14NB001 is particularly promising.

“I also stress that we’ve still got a large number of equally compelling and prospective targets completely undrilled at this stage.”

Apollo is earning a 75% interest in the Eagle Hawk tenement (EL4932) from Mincor Resources (ASX:MCR).*Drilling Results*

Diamond core drill hole 14NB001 was designed to test the very top of a coincident gravity and magnetic anomaly targeted for IOCG style mineralisation in a similar setting to the Prominent Hill IOCG mine 100 kilometres east of Titan.

It is believed that the hole pierced the very top of the geophysical target with the prospect remaining open in all directions.

Detailed geological logging and analysis of diamond core has highlighted significant IOCG alteration and mineralisation along a discontinuous length of approximately 60 metres to the end of hole.
Sulphides are evident along fractures and in disseminated form within zones of hydrothermal alteration. These findings are currently being verified by laboratory assays and independent experts.

Assays for 14NB001 remain pending and are expected to confirm IOCG mineralisation although high grade copper over large intervals, typical of economic ICOGs, is not expected from this hole.

Assays from five other holes drilled into a number of other targets within the Eaglehawk tenement are ahead of the assays for diamond drill hole 14NB001 and have been delayed due to quality assurance checking by the laboratory.

Mars Aurora Tank and Eagle Hawk*

The recently completed drilling program of 3 holes at the Mars Aurora Tank JV and 6 holes at the Eagle Hawk JV was designed to test for signs of alteration and IOCG mineralisation across wide spaced (>5km) targets.

The first of three reverse circulation holes at Mars Aurora Tank returned a near-surface intersection of 4 metres at 5 grams per tonne gold from 16 metres.

The second hole intersected favourable rock types and structure displaying multiple episodes of deformation and mineral alteration.

Intensely sheared mafic and granitic rock units were intersected with development of chlorite, strong carbonate veining and sericitic alteration.

Complete results from the third hole at Mars Aurora Tank are expected from the laboratory shortly.

Apollo is earning a 75% interest in Mars Aurora Tank from Marmota Energy (ASX:MEU).

At Eaglehawk, visual inspection of drill samples indicated the holes had intersected sulphide mineralisation, ‘red rock’ potassium development and heavy mineral enrichment. *HPX Commonwealth Hill JV Project*

A maiden drilling program was carried out to follow up the High Power Exploration-led, large scale induced Polarisation survey across the Wirrida Intrusive Complex.

The program drilled a combination of 4 reverse circulation and diamond-core holes totalling 906 metres and targeted a number of strong chargeable anomalies.

Drilling intersected disseminated sulphide mineralisation in two drill holes including drilled thickness intervals of 8 metres at 223ppm copper, 17.5ppb gold and 10.2 % iron from 284 metres in WIRDD001, and 130ppm copper, 2.13 ppb gold and 8.376% iron from 160 metres in B53DD001.

Drilling intersected basic rock types with alteration patterns similar to other South Australian IOCG discoveries including BHPB’s Wirrda Well.

Interpretation of results and geological setting establish a strong analogy between Apollo’s Wirrida Intrusive Complex to Oz Minerals White Hill Intrusive Complex, which is adjacent to the major Prominent Hill IOCG deposit located only 100 kilometres to the east.

These relationships further strengthen the possibility for the discovery of IOCG mineralisation in the local area.

As soon as the drilling results become available, HPX will analyse them with the intention of formulating and communicating the exploration plans for 2015 to the market.*Analysis*

Shares in Apollo Minerals should trade higher on the encouraging discovery of a potential new IOCG system in the frontier of the Olympic Dam IOCG corridor from its first round of drilling on the Eaglehawk JV.

Assays for this and the other five holes at Eaglehawk are pending and could provide further support for its belief that the Titan Project could host the next major IOCG discovery.

In addition, the company has a large number of high priority targets undrilled at the end of this program. Any of these could be a potential company maker.

With Wednesday’s preview release of a new database service called Aurora, Amazon Web Services claims to have supercharged the open source MySQL with the high performance, reliability, and scalability characteristics typically associated with commercial database systems—at the fraction of the cost for these products.

“Lots of enterprises are using MySQL, and they would like to put more workloads on MySQL, but it is very challenging to get the kind of performance they want from these sorts of open source database engines,” said Andy Jassy, senior vice president overseeing the Amazon Web Services, during a press conference at the company’s Re:Invent conference, being held this week in Las Vegas.

One-Percenters Aiming For Universal Background Check Initiative In Nevada

One-Percenters Aiming For Universal Background Check Initiative In Nevada After pouring in millions to fund a universal background check initiative that passed in Washington State on November 4, Michael Bloomberg's Everytown for Gun Safety is preparing to bypass the Nevada legislature and impose universal background checks on Nevadans.

The Hill reports that Bloomberg's group gathered 250,000 signatures and will ask the state legislature to pass universal background checks during 2015. If the legislature refuses, Bloomberg's group will do an end-around the legislature as they did in Washington state by pushing a ballot initiative in 2016.

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval (R) vetoed universal background check legislation in 2013. And with the pro-Second Amendment makeup of the state's legislature following last week's midterms, the odds of such a measure reaching his desk again is highly unlikely.

MSNBC reports that Bloomberg's group is working with Nevadans for Background Checks, a gun control group which believes requiring a background check on all gun sales—retail and private—will reduce gun crime.

Ironically, in one of the most hideous gun crimes reported in Nevada this year—the slaying of two policeman in a Las Vegas pizzeria in June—the killers had gone through background checks to acquire their guns.

The same has been true in other high profile crimes throughout our country in recent years. Elliot Rodger (Santa Barbara gunman), Ivan Lopez (2014 Fort Hood gunman), Darion Marcus Aquilar (Maryland mall gunman), Karl Halverson Pierson (Araphahoe High School gunman), Paul Ciancia (LAX gunman), Aaron Alexis (DC Navy Yard gunman), James Holmes (Aurora theater gunman), and Jared Loughner (Tucson gunman), among many others, all went through background checks to acquire their firearms.

Background checks do not stop criminals. They simply provide another way for governments to regulate the exercise of Second Amendment rights.

Pit Bull Advocates “Release their Dogs” on Victims of Attacks and Supporters (VIDEO)
Has Been Optimized

If you are an advocate for Pit Bulls, the title of this article should immediately bring visions of dog fighting to mind. “Release your dogs” is also the first line in the 2014 Documentary by the BBC (below) which “reveals the link between the seedy world of dog fighting and dangerous dogs in the streets.”

The victims of unprovoked pit bull attacks are not only humans but also innocent stray and farm animals and beloved pets. The reported numbers are horrifying; the true number is not known.  .

It is time for the pain and suffering of victims of these attacks to be recognized and not excused.  It is also time to provide better protection for pit bulls, who are also victims of those who neglect, abuse and exploit them and those who refuse to allow legislation to protect them.

In view of actual statistics of deaths and the horrible scars and injuries to innocent human and animal victims, isn’t it time to agree on BSL that protects both?

*CANINE VICTIMS AWARENESS WEEK*

This week, from November 9 – 15, 2014, is the first Canine Victims Awareness Week organized by a coalition called AVOCA.  Under the heading “Victim Blaming Hurts us All,” these links provide information on how to understanding what happens to victims and survivors and how to get involved in Awareness for Victims of Canine Attacks, with Hashtag #WontBackDown.

On the Voice of the Victim page, they invite posts by victims of canine attacks anywhere.

VICTIMS OF CANINE ATTACKS ISSUE OPEN LETTER TO HUFFINGTON POST

AVOCA issued a media release on November 13, 2014, which included, “an urgent plea” to Arianna Huffington in response to her publication’s recent promotional feature entitled “Pit Bull Week” (July 28-August 4, 2014).

The victims’ coalition urged the Huffington Post’s Editor-in-Chief to reconsider her publication’s editorial decision to promote and encourage pit bulls as desirable family pets.” http://www.daxtonsfriends.com/open-letter-huffpo.

Tragically, in the period following the Huffington Post’s “Pit Bull Week,” nine more Americans have lost their lives to canine attack, many by family pets, according to the release.

The full list of dog bite-related fatalities with source citations can be found at http://www.dogsbite.org/dog-bite-statistics-fatalities-2014.php and Citizens for Canine Attack Prevention.

“Pit bulls currently make up approximately 6% of the dog population in the U.S. Yet, in 2013, pit bulls and their mixes caused 78% of all dog bite-related fatalities.” And canine attack fatalities continue to rise each year, as documented by Merritt Clifton, Editor of Animals 24-7, on September 27, 2014.  More: http://www.animals24-7.org/2014/09/27/32-years-of-logging-fatal-disfiguring-dog-attacks -

AVOCA urgently seeks to educate the public about the risks of dangerous dogs, specifically fighting breeds and their derivatives. At the rate reported by Clifton, currently in the U.S. a citizen is killed by canine attack approximately every 9 days.

*PIT BULL ADVOCATES BULLY ANIMALS 24/7 AFTER LOSING IN AURORA, CO *

On November 7, 2014, Merrit Clifton, editor of *ANIMALS 24/7*,* posted**:*

*“*What did pit bull advocates do after losing their attempt to repeal the pit bull ban in Aurora, Colorado, by a 30% margin?”

He explained that pit bull advocates had bullied Blue Buffalo, a pet food maker, and the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California, into withdrawing an ad for the Home 4 the Holidays Program, which had appeared in ANIMALS 24-7.

He pointed out that, “Among the 1.1 million shelter animals rehomed by Home 4 the Holidays in 2013 were an estimated 170,000 pit bulls.”

According to Clifton, the Helen Woodward Animal Center asked *ANIMALS 24-7* to replace the ad that was currently running and replace it with an ad which, in the unanimous opinion of his staff, featured a pit bull.

*ANIMALS 24-7 *editor Merritt Clifton, responded that his publication  “… will not accept an ad with a visual image that promotes adoptions of pit bulls, or any other dog breed that accounts for more than 10 times more dog attack fatalities, disfigurements, and deaths of other pets than would be proportionate to the numbers of that breed among the dog population. Promoting such breeds is why more shelter dogs have killed and disfigured people in 2014 alone than killed and disfigured people in the entire time from 1858 through 2009. We can publish an ad that shows any other type of dog, or a cat.”   Read more: http://www.animals24-7.org/2014/11/07/losing-in-aurora-pit-bull-advocates-set-their-dogs-on-us-blue-buffalo-home-4-the-holidays/

*DAXTONSFRIENDS.COM RECEIVED HATE MAIL*

Jeff Borchardt, founder of Daxton’s Friends, ran an ad in the Aurora Sentinel and the Denver Post before the public voted to retain the city’s pit bull ban. The ad stated, “Fact: Pit Bulls Kill More Humans & Animals than All Breeds Combined.”

Hate mail from Pit Bull advocates flooded in to both papers and to the father of a 14-month-old toddler, Daxton Borchardt, who was savagely mauled to death on March 6, 2013, by two Pit Bulls at the home of the babysitter who was caring for him.

Jeff Borchardt shared many e-mails focused on his deceased son, including one where the commenter posted a picture of his son’s head and wrote under it, “my dart board lmfao.”

Another wrote, “Let play kickball with jeff’s son head. he so not like he will need it.”
