Joni Ernst Guns
Has Been Optimized

Republican Joni Ernst is running against Democrat Bruce Braley for Iowa's open U.S. Senate seat.

Ernst has often bragged about how she carries a gun and has used firearms in her ads. Ernst's pro-gun positions have earned her the endorsement of the National Rifle Association (NRA), which gave her an "A" rating for her voting record in the Iowa State senate, noted the Des Moines Register earlier this year.

A controversial video (below) of Ernst speaking to the NRA in 2012 recently surfaced.

Ernst's speech took place not long after a mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo.

According to ThinkProgress.org, Ernst talked about her gun and how she would use it to defend herself against intruders and the U.S. government.

"I have a beautiful little Smith and Wesson, 9 mm, and it goes with me virtually everywhere," said Ernst. "I do believe in the right to carry, and I believe in the right to defend myself and my family whether it’s from an intruder, or whether it’s from the government, should they decide that my rights are no longer important."

Ernst's statement brought applause from the NRA crowd.

Bloomberg.com reports that a Quinnipiac University poll released today had Ernst at 48 percent and Braley at 46 percent.

“Throughout the campaign, Senator Ernst has had an edge on likability,” said Peter Brown, of the Quinnipiac Poll. “If she makes it across the finish line first that may be the key. Her campaign theme that she is the ‘farm girl next door’ who made good has taken her from unknown state legislator to a serious shot at the United States Senate.”

CitizenLink, the political arm of the Christian ministry Focus on the Family, supports Ernst because of her pro-life, anti-health care and anti-gay positions.

Des Moines Register reporter Rekha Basu wrote today on Facebook that Ernst is refusing to meet with newspapers for questions:

Is Joni Ernst afraid of newspaper editorial boards? After much negotiating, she was scheduled to meet his morning with writers and editors at The Des Moines Register, but last night her people called to unilaterally cancel. She has also begged off meetings with The Cedar Rapids Gazette and The Dubuque Telegraph-Herald.

Science fiction. Fantasy. Magic. Witchcraft. Young readers and adults alike will be enthralled with the magical novel "Witch: Rise of the Nine".

Working on an ambulance while advancing her medical education to become a paramedic, Aurora Alexia Spellman spends her free time with a small group of Wiccans. One night, she meets a young man named Lee, who helps her get away from an ex-boyfriend who will not leave her alone. Set in the distant future on planet Earth, Aurora believes she is an ordinary person, but that is definitely not the case! Aurora has been hidden away from her own world for her own protection. But now that she has come of age, her life is about to change.

Her new friend Lee introduces Aurora to Seth Knightwing, leader of the resistance. After she returns to the magical Realm, the two realms start to merge. Several magical cities are destroyed, while other cities return to both realms, throwing the non-magical folk into chaos. The Core system regains access to the rest of the galaxy as the merger continues. Aurora finds she is one of the remaining Nine Princesses of the Core. She and other resistance members look for the remaining descendants so there can be a Rise of the Nine.

Failed Senate Gun Bill Would Not Have Stopped Marysville School Gunman

Failed Senate Gun Bill Would Not Have Stopped Marysville School Gunman Even though Democrats quickly followed news of the Marysville-Pilchuck High School shooting with renewed calls for the kind of background checks contained in the failed Senate gun control bill, the facts demonstrate one clear point: The failed Senate gun bill would not have stopped the Marysville gunman.

This is because the gun used by Jaylen Fryberg was "legally" obtained by his father, and then taken by the younger Fryberg and misused to kill one and wound four on October 24.

According to the Los Angeles Times, an official with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE) said simply, "The gun used by Fryberg had been obtained legally." This phraseology is always a reference indicating the owner of the gun--Fryberg's father in this instance--went through a background check to acquire it.

We saw this same thing after the Fort Hood shooting in April, when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) called for lawmakers to revisit gun control via expanded background checks because of the attack.

On April 3, Breitbart News reported, Reid said: "Couldn't we at least have background checks so that people who are ill mentally, or who are felons, shouldn't be able to buy guns?"

The problem with this--as Breitbart News also reported--is that Fort Hood gunman Ivan Lopez did go through a background check to get his firearm. To use BATFE phraseology, he obtained it "legally," just like Fryberg's father in Marysville, like the cop killers in Las Vegas, like Santa Barbara gunman Elliot Rodger, like Maryland mall gunman Darion Marcus Aguilar, like LAX gunman Paul Ciancia, like DC Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis, like Aurora theater gunman James Holmes, like Gabby Gifford's attacker Jared Loughner, and 2009 Fort Hood gunman Nidal Hasan, to name but a few.

Background checks did not stop any of these individuals from carrying out their heinous acts.

As Aurora, Colorado, prepares for a decision by voters on whether to repeal the city’s 8-year ban on Pit Bull ownership, an ad designed by Jeff Borchardt, founder of Daxton’s Friends ran in the Aurora Sentinel and Denver Post. The ad states, “*Fact:  Pit Bulls Kill More Humans & Animals than All Breeds Combined.*” and will appear in two more editions of the Post’s “YourHub” insert.

However, in an October 20 article entitled, “Pit-bull Ban Proponent says Denver Paper Threatened to Pull Political Ad after Ban-Critics Complained,*”* the Sentinel states that Carla Royter, the Post’s advertising and sales director, said the Post would run the remaining ads, "adding language that identified them with political advertising.”

Borchardt said the ad is not political and that he is still working with the Post on revisions.

Hate mail from Pit Bull advocates reportedly flooded in to both papers and to the father of a 14-month-old toddler, Daxton Borchardt, who was savagely mauled to death on March 6, 2013, by two Pit Bulls at the home of the babysitter who was caring for him.

The Sentinel states that Borchardt shared with them many e-mails focused on his deceased son, including one where the commenter posted a picture of his son’s head and wrote under it, “my dart board lmfao.”

Another (shared with me by Jeff) shamed humanity by writing, “Let play kickball with jeff’s son head. he dead so not like he will need it.” One more, using photo icons of baby Dax’ smiling face, wrote, “you can put a gun to your head and join your ugly son.”

The ad, designed by Jeff Borchardt, father of Dax and founder of a non-profit advocacy group, Daxton’s Friends for Canine Education & Awareness, "Believing the myth, 'It's not the breed, it's all how you raise them,' is what left us without a son," Jeff told Coleen Lynn of Dogsbite.org in a June 10, 2013, interview.

In a post on “DaxtonsFather: My son was killed by pit bulls,” Borchardt writes:

“On October 2nd, 2014, Daxton’s Friends For Canine Education & Awareness started an ad campaign in the greater Denver area…The ad was approved by the Denver Post and ran in the “Pink Edition” of YourHub, an insert that covers Aurora, CO. The ad simply stated, “FACT: Pit Bulls Kill More Humans & Animals Than ALL BREEDS Combined!” Our ad did not include the full name of the American Pit Bull Terrier due to ad space.”

*PIT-BULL ADVOCATES RESPOND*

Among others, “Jessica” writes a long objection which states in part:

“Due to your post, it shows that there are IGNORANT people like you and your ‘friends’ that think all pit bulls are dangerous. I understand that the result of your page is due to the loss of someone who was attacked. But any animal can attack, it’s not just a pit bull…The reason that these dogs get there bad name is because of people like you! The uneducated morons who go and breed bash…Additionally, serious Pit Bull attacks rarely involve spayed/neutered Pit Bulls who have received proper training and socialization.”

Jeff  Borchardt answers:

“Since you missed Daxton’s story, we will take a moment to fill you in. Daxton was killed on March 6, 2013 at 14 months of age by his babysitter’s two pit bulls. The dogs were raised by the babysitter since they were puppies. They were raised in a loving environment, were spayed and neutered, and well trained. They could follow basic commands and even knew how to kennel themselves. There was no indication of neglect or abuse and a thorough police investigation concluded the babysitter did no wrong doing. On March 6, 2013, she let the dogs out for a potty break. Her yard is an acre fenced doggie paradise. She went outside with Daxton in her arms and called them back to the house. For no reason, the dogs started to attack her and ripped Daxton from her arms. She struggled with the dogs for 15 minutes to get Daxton back and call for help. Unfortunately, Daxton did not survive the attack.

“While the Daxton’s Friends team understands that “any dog can bite”, we do not consider a torn off face, crushed skull, severed spinal cord, multiple bite wounds, and extensive blood loss to be a “bite”. Daxton suffered a brutal mauling. There is the common misconception that “bites” and “maulings” are the same and that fatalities are caused by single “bites”. If Daxton was bitten that day, he might have seen a doctor for bandages and antibiotics. As for “ALL dogs can cause fatalities”, we agree. Yes, all dogs can, BUT they are not. If you consider the fatalities the year Daxton was killed, pit bulls clearly lead the count.”

Jessica’s response: “*Quit being f--ing ignorant. Your wrong, end of story. Plus I never said they don’t. I’m sayin they are not all dangerous. Quit being f--k t-rds. I hope you die from being attacked. You f--ks deserve it.  *http://daxtonsfather.wordpress.com/

*IS NON-POLITICAL AD ABOUT PIT BULLS A POLITICAL ISSUE?*

The Aurora Sentinel writes that, after the ad ran, the Denver Post asked Borchardt to change his ad and make it “not so in your face,” and also wrote an e-mail that said they had received "a ton of hate mail and complaints in response to it."

Carla Royter, the paper’s Advertising and Sales Director, “We’ve spoken with the advertiser and they have agreed to source their claims and to add ‘paid for by’ required of political advertising.  So with these additions, the ad will publish as ordered,” she said in a statement.

Borchardt said the ad is not political and that he is still working with the Post on revisions.

It was also published in the Aurora Sentinel’s 2014 Voter’s Guide.

“This is a freedom of speech issue,” he told the Sentinel, adding that he will agree to use the site Dogsbite.org as a source for the next two ads.

The GraphicAudio® production of CEMETERY GIRL Part 1: THE PRETENDERS is the first time that the “A Movie in Your Mind®” sound design takes center stage driving a suspenseful and eerie listening experience, where sound becomes a character in its own right. Charlaine Harris says, "Wow, what a pleasant surprise! GraphicAudio has knocked this audiobook out of the graveyard. I can't wait to hear the next installment."

CEMETERY GIRL centers around a teenage girl who awakens, bruised and bloody, in the grim surroundings of an old graveyard, with no memory of who she is, how she got there, or who left her for dead. All she knows is that whoever tried to kill her is still out there. Not knowing where to go, or who to trust, she avoids all human contact. She survives on stolen food and uses a cemetery crypt as her home. She takes the name Calexa from the name above her crypt.

Calexa soon makes a startling discovery:

She can see the spirits of the dead, and one in particular, can see her.

The victim of a murder that Calexa has inadvertently witnessed compels her to take action, even if it means her own life will be put at risk.

Now Calexa must make a decision: continue to hide to protect herself—or come forward to bring justice to the sad spirit who has reached out to her for help...

Rohan says, “CEMETERY GIRL is the perfect story to explore the immersive atmospherics of audio, especially in the 5.1 Surround format, and GraphicAudio® delivers the listener an experience that is captivating and haunting. Emlyn McFarland has given us a sincere, nuanced and often heartbreaking portrayal of Calexa, the Cemetery Girl.”

A Colorado man was reportedly seriously injured when he got run over by his own vehicle after jumping out of it to avoid being burnt by a lit cigarette he accidentally dropped down the front of his jacket.

The man, whose identity has not been revealed, is reportedly recovering from life-threatening injuries. Early Sunday morning, he was backing his vehicle out of his driveway in Aurora when he reportedly accidentally dropped his lit cigarette into his jacket, reports KUSA-TV.

He jumped out of the vehicle in order to find the cigarette and not get burnt by it, but as he did so, his vehicle reportedly continued to roll backwards out of the driveway, knocking him to the ground. The front driver’s tire then reportedly rolled over his head.

One of the man’s relatives was reportedly in the front passenger seat at the time, but was not injured.

The driver was reportedly transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Police say they believe he will survive the incident.

The man did not appear to be intoxicated, according to police, who say they do not suspect charges will be filed in this incident.

Washington High School Shooting Is Another Sign Of America’s Warped Attitude On Guns

Washington High School Shooting Is Another Sign Of America’s Warped Attitude On Guns Washington High School Shooting Is Another Sign Of America’s Warped Attitude On Guns
Washington High School Shooting Is Another Sign Of America’s Warped Attitude On Guns
Has Been Optimized

When as a country do we say enough is enough?

When do we get tired of seeing news reports of our children being rushed out of a high school while armed police clear a school from an armed gunman, usually another student?

When do we decide that the right to own a gun is not more important than the right to live without fear of some gun nut deciding he wants to take out his frustrations about life, about girls treating him badly, about some other perceived slight, on not only himself but on innocent people?

Personally I had enough a long long time ago.

Another of the students shot in the Marysville, Washington high school cafeteria this past Friday died of her wounds Sunday night. That makes three deaths from the incident, including Jaylen Fryberg himself, from a self-inflicted gunshot. Three other students remain hospitalized, two in critical condition, one in serious condition. One of his victims was his own cousin, who he shot in the head.

Fryberg, by all accounts a popular student, just stood up in the cafeteria and began shooting. Apparently he was depressed and upset because he could not win the love of a girl. The weapon used in the shooting spree was apparently legally owned by his father, and Fryberg took it without his father knowing. His parents did however, buy Fryberg his own hunting rifle months before for a birthday gift as he was an avid hunter.

You see the problem here and in almost every case that we’ve all heard of and should be tired of hearing repeated, like in the elementary school in Sandy Hook or the movie theater in Aurora, Colorado or the University of California Santa Barbara shooting, or too many others, is that access to guns is way too easy. And all the old arguments that guns don’t kill people, people do, and that these people were all mentally unstable cases, don’t matter. The fact is time after time the headlines keep being written that say yet another public shooting has taken place by someone somewhere and regardless of their motivations or mental states, the shoters had access to guns and they used those guns to easily take out someone’s child.

We all know it is only a matter of time before the next such incident happens. It is guaranteed. The really sad thing is that we completely accept it as normal in American life. It is not normal. It is just outrageous that we accept it as so. The recent rampage at the government building in Canada, for example, is huge news in that country, not only because of the drama of it, but because such gun violence is so very rare in that country. School shootings are practically unheard of. I came across a statistic the other day that said in the whole country of Japan, in one year there were four deaths attributable to guns. In the whole country. We have more than that in one weekend in a major city like L.A. or Chicago.

These people in other countries must think we are nuts with this wild wild west mentality we have about our right to own guns. And they are right. It isn’t the mental state of those disturbed individuals who get their hands on guns and then head to schools, theaters and public places to take their anger out on innocents that worry me. It is the mental state of a country that actually debates whether or not the public should be allowed to have guns at all. We spend more time working up a lather about Ebola which has killed fewer people in the U.S. than died in Marysville, Washington from this school shooting.

Sick indeed.
