North Georgia Foothills Active Adult Community Honored at Southeast Building Conference Design Competition

Libertyville, IL (PRWEB) July 31, 2014

Active adult community Soleil Laurel Canyon, located 55 minutes north of Atlanta in Canton, Georgia, was recently singled out by The Aurora Awards, a design competition of the Southeast Building Conference honoring excellence in building and design, as a Best 50+ Retirement Community. Soleil Laurel Canyon competed against communities from 12 other southern states and was judged on criteria including architectural design, livability, recreational facilities, overall master/site plan, and floor plan function and design.

“Soleil Laurel Canyon has definitely created an attractive community for today's buyer,” said Marian Schaffer, Principal and Founder of Southeast Discovery, a company that helps buyers actively looking for a retirement or second home in the Southeast find the right area and community to call home. “The home designs are well thought out and affordable. The community's clubhouse is one of the most innovative we’ve seen in terms of its usability by residents. And the location of Soleil Laurel Canyon is very appealing – one hour north of Atlanta, the community is close enough to the big city to take advantage of its attributes, yet far enough away from the hustle and bustle to truly get away from it all.”

Located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Soleil Laurel Canyon was built as a resort-style residential community for the 55+ active adult complete with beautiful, maintenance-free grounds and abundant indoor and outdoor amenities and activities. Indoor amenities include a 28,000 square foot Craftsman-style clubhouse featuring a great room with stacked stone fireplace, vaulted ceiling and comfortable living room seating, and expansive decks overlooking the pool, horticultural gardens and the lake just beyond it. The clubhouse also features a theater and performing arts center, a library, gourmet teaching kitchen, an arts and crafts center, billiards and game rooms, and a massage room and fitness center.

Outdoor amenities include a lakeside amphitheater for concerts and performances, bocce ball fields, miles of scenic walking trails, and a multi-surface tennis center with on-staff professionals; the community is also adjacent to the 18-hole Fairways of Canton golf course. There are over 50 special interest clubs within Soleil Laurel Canyon, and the community employs a full-time Lifestyle Director and on-site support staff.

Soleil Laurel Canyon offers golf, lake or woodland home sites and a selection of single family homes in cottage, traditional or craftsman style ranging in size from 1,500 to 3,000 square feet. Homes are priced from the low $200,000s to $400,000s, and feature 9’ and 10’ foot ceilings, stone accents, custom cabinetry, 30-year roof shingles, and are energy efficient. All of Soleil’s homes are designed for aging-in-place with stepless-entry access, wide doorways and roll-in showers.

“Soleil Laurel Canyon has won several awards in recent years for their home designs and the community's master-plan concept,” said Schaffer. “Baby Boomer retirees who want to be near a major city like Atlanta, while still being able to enjoy the topography of the foothills, will find Soleil Laurel Canyon a solid community to consider.”

Medical Day Treatment Program provides a normalized education experience for Colorado students with chronic medical conditions.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) July 31, 2014

Jones International University®, Ltd. (JIU®) today announced that it has sponsored the production of a new promotional video for the Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Medical Day Treatment Program (MDT). The video, produced by Deren P. Abram, owner of Film Pharm Productions, promotes the important work of the Medical Day Treatment Program as they provide a normalized education experience for students with chronic medical conditions. MDT is a school-based treatment program that allows kids to attend school while also managing their medical needs. Children’s Colorado has been providing specialized pediatric healthcare to children in the Rocky Mountain region for more than a century.

“Children’s Hospital Colorado is fortunate to count Jones International University among its partners,” said Monique McCoy senior communication manager at Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation. “The great people of JIU have been very generous with their support over the years, but most recently they underwrote a video project to showcase our Medical Day Treatment program. This touching video shares a unique aspect of our care with the community and we’re so fortunate that JIU found it to be a worthy undertaking.”

The Medical Day Treatment Program was initiated in the fall of 1991. This unique program is a collaborative venture between the Children's Hospital Colorado and Aurora Public Schools. The program provides an educational placement alternative for children whose needs are too complicated to allow them to attend regular school. Children are able to continue to meet school expectations in an environment that provides the medical and emotional interventions they need daily.

“All of us at JIU are honored to support the Medical Day Treatment Program and Children’s Colorado with this exciting video project,” stated JIU Chancellor Dr. Milt Goldberg. “At JIU we have a passionately-held belief that the opportunity to receive a great education should be available to everyone, everywhere, no matter their circumstances. The Medical Day Treatment Program provides an important educational resource to the many kids who are managing serious health issues while they work to continue their education.”

A program for anyone looking to experience weight loss “boot camp” is coming to the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) as a one-week destination weight loss boot camp and transformation program. “Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp,” a collaboration between AHWC and Eyeworks USA, is an evidenced-based program inspired by the unscripted series “Extreme Weight Loss,” produced for ABC by Eyeworks USA.

AURORA, Colo. (PRWEB) July 31, 2014

This season, the show has participants spending their first three months at AHWC to successfully begin their weight loss journey (the series documents the year-long transformation in 17 people).

Holly Wyatt, MD, medical director at the CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center and on ”Extreme Weight Loss,” is a guiding force, along with series trainers and transformation specialists Chris and Heidi Powell, in helping the show participants safely lose weight. In her practice at AHWC, Wyatt also works with individuals and small groups to help them realize weight loss and maintenance goals.

“Many of the changes these people make have nothing to do with diet or exercise,” said Wyatt. “We know the most challenging part of losing weight is keeping it off and developing a new way of thinking to keep it off long-term.”

People who take part in “Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp” will come to AHWC every day for Phase 1, which is the first week of the weight loss boot camp program, and have hotel accommodations near campus.

“We have 20 years of experience and science backing up the principles we will share at ‘Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp’,” said Wyatt. “In addition to looking at nutrition and exercise, we will assess individual metabolic function, sleep and stress levels to give participants a look at what they do well and what they might need to work on.”

During “Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp,” participants will be assigned a transformation coach for daily sessions of physical activity, mental exercises and nutrition education. Each also will receive body composition, personalized nutritional analysis and wellness assessments. The program is based on the weight loss principles outlined in “State of Slim,” written by Wyatt and James O. Hill, PhD, AHWC’s executive director.

“State of Slim” principles include identifying your personal reasons for losing weight, focusing on positive aspects of weight loss, creating a supportive environment and developing new habits and rituals to make healthy decisions.

After the first week, participants will head home and have the option to continue the transformation in Phases 2, 3 and 4. They can take part in 15 weekly online classes with their transformation coach. There will also be an online community for support and guidance throughout the year. At the completion of one year, we will invite them back to celebrate their success.

The program will be available to 120 people in the month of October 2014. For more information on the program please call 1-844-404-2008 or go to http://www.ewlbootcamp.com.

“Extreme Weight Loss” airs Tuesday nights 8:00-10:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network. It is produced for ABC by Eyeworks USA and is executive produced by JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Matt Assmus and Brant Pinvidic.

Leelanau Peninsula’s Newest Winery Offers Local Wine and Fare Paired with Old World Charm

Lake Leelanau, MI (PRWEB) July 31, 2014

Leelanau Peninsula’s newest winery, Aurora Cellars, opened its doors on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 7788 East Horn Road in Lake Leelanau. Joining the Northern Loop of the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail, Aurora Cellars is the 25th winery along the trail. The winery will participate in all trail activities including the popular wine tour events, making its trail event debut during the Harvest Stompede on Saturday and Sunday, September 6-7, 2014.

Owners David and Faye Mathia opened the boutique winery in the former Circa Estate Winery facility, which closed its doors in January 2013. The Old World-inspired winery sits atop a hill surrounded by estate grapevines. To launch the win-ery successfully, brother and sister duo Sam and Taylor Simpson of Good Harbor Vineyards of Lake Leelanau are consulting the Mathias in all aspects of the wine business.

A fresh, new look inside the tasting room encourages guests to head to the bar to sip from a selection of 10 wines ranging from dry to sweet and including both white and red. Varieties are Cabernet Franc, Radiance (house red), Brut, Brut Rosé, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, semi-dry Riesling, Luminous (sweet blend), Cherry Wine and a hard cider. The wines are priced from $12 to $32 per bottle.

Outside, an outdoor patio provides a relaxing atmosphere to linger over a glass of wine and a small plate of fresh, local fare. The Mathias are partnering with Lee-lanau businesses to provide local products to enhance the tasting experience. Deli-cious options include smoked whitefish pâté from Carlson’s Fisheries of Leland, hummus from the Redheads of Lake Leelanau, handmade chocolates from Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate of Empire and Fromage Blanc Herb Spread from Leelanau Cheese Company of Suttons Bay. Options range from $5 to $9 per plate.

Aurora Cellars is also available as a venue for small weddings and events for up to 50 people. For more information about Aurora Cellars, visit http://www.auroracellars.com.

The Leelanau Peninsula Vintners Association (LPVA) is a member-driven, winery association founded in 1998. The mission of the LPVA is to spread the word about all the good things happening along the Leelanau Peninsula Wine Trail. The trail is divided into three mini-trails for easy touring: the Sleeping Bear Loop, the Northern Loop and the Grand Traverse Bay Loop.

The Leelanau Peninsula AVA is home to 25 wineries located within diverse micro-climates uniquely suited for a variety of wine grapes. Among the internationally ac-claimed varietals are Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. The local wines continue to achieve national and international accolades with each passing vintage. Reported by PRWeb 4 hours ago.

The Aurora Awards are presented at the SEBC’s Black Tie Gala/Spectacular at the Rosen center in Orlando, FL on July 26, 2014. The Award competition recognizes achievements in building design. As a team member on many of the winning projects, Two Trails Inc. is proud to be a part of the client teams that were nominated and won an Aurora Award.

Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) August 06, 2014

The Aurora Awards is a competitive award competition held during SEBC (Southeast Builders Conference). Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA) sponsors the Award competition; one of the largest associations of it’s kind. The Aurora Award design competition is presented to outstanding builders, planners, architects, developers, designers, and interior merchandisers within a twelve state southeastern and eastern Caribbean region.

The design competition since its inception thirty-four years ago, continues to grow and honor residential and commercial designers and builders in 135 categories. Categories consist of Commercial, Residential, Price Point, Energy Efficiency, Green Building and many more. The builders in the categories also recognize major Team members on the project. Two Trails Inc.-Green Building Consulting is proud to be a part of fifty (50) 2014 Aurora Awards this year.

An Aurora Award can be awarded to one entrant in each of the 135 categories. However on top of the 135 categories there are Grand Aurora awards based on sub categories and one (this year there was a tie so there is two) Golden Aurora Award for the whole Award competition. This year the Golden Aurora was awarded to the best Green/Energy Efficient featured project instead of past years selection of a design project. Two Trails is proud of Josh Wynne Construction & Jonathan Parks Architect for winning the Golden Aurora this year and is happy to be a part of the team on this project.

“We are thrilled to be a part of our client’s success this year. Especially this year for the first time the Golden Aurora Award was based on green/energy efficient features whereas past years based on design. Two Trails was a chosen team member in client projects that received a combined total of 50 Aurora Awards. Our success is dependent upon our clients’ success. We love seeing our partners exceed, especially in the green categories!” stated Drew Smith, President of Two Trails Inc.

About Drew Smith | Two Trails, Inc. was founded in 2001, by an innovative builder who set out to change the methodology of conventional building science. Drew realized that the only way to change the industry was to become the resource for the knowledge on how to implement healthy, sustainable projects. He “hung up his hammer” and opened one of the first green building, consulting firms in the nation.

By helping to develop standards for the American Lung Association, National Home Builders Association, Florida Green Building Coalition, and USGBC LEED for Homes by either writing the standard or testing the viability of the standard in the field, he was able to provide his firm with a thorough understanding of the science of building sustainable, healthy, environmentally conscious, and affordable solutions for the building industry. He was “green” before “green” was more than a color. Our President, Drew M. Smith, LEED AP BD+C, was the founding President of the Florida Green Building Coalition and is the first Governor appointed Green Building Commissioner for the State of Florida. Two Trails, Inc. provides hands-on consulting making it easy to achieve certification.

Manufacturer of measuring and marking tools also donates barricade tape to help local street department and heavy duty wood shipping crates to help food pantry with community garden projects.

Aurora, Illinois (PRWEB) August 06, 2014

Keson Industries, a leading manufacturer and supplier of innovative, high-quality, measuring and marking tools, announced that it has made another large donation of marking chalk to TroopsDirect.org, the 501c3 non-profit organization that provides frontline service members with urgently needed supplies. This is the third donation of chalk from Keson, to again be used by U.S. service members for marking improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The company also donated chalk in February 2012 and June 2011 through TroopsDirect, which is located in San Ramon, CA.

This most recent chalk delivery was in response to an urgent request because the demolition team that needed the chalk was being deployed within the week. TroopsDirect requested that the chalk be shipped directly from Keson’s Aurora, IL headquarters to Fort Campbell, Kentucky so that it could leave on the same flight as the service members. The shipment was delivered on time, courtesy of Roadrunner Transportation Systems, a company that partners with Keson and provides its services free of charge for these donations.

Keson also donated to two local organizations in July. First, it donated barricade tape to the City of Aurora’s Public Works Department, and then donated 23 heavy-duty wood shipping crates to Glen Ellyn-based SCARCE, for use in community garden projects. The shipping crates will serve as storage containers for the tools used in the community gardens.

SCARCE, which stands for School & Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education, works to build sustainable communities and frequently works with companies like Keson to help promote recycling of equipment and products that are no longer needed or being used.

“Keson’s corporate motto is to Make Your Mark, and we feel like our dedicated commitment to our service members and to conservation in our community are strong signs of this belief,” said Ron Nosek, chairman, Keson Industries. “We value our relationships with Troops Direct, with the City of Aurora and with SCARCE, and are pleased that we can help make a positive impact in our community and help save the lives of our service members.”

In 2012, Keson was named one of The Conservation Foundation’s Fab 40, a designation for 40 organizations that have contributed to effective and on-the-ground conservation in the Illinois counties of DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will.

AURORA, Colo. (PRWEB) August 07, 2014

The next episode of “Extreme Weight Loss” Season Four introduces a woman from Owensboro, Ky. who, at just 4’5” tall, has faced a lifelong struggle with her height…and her weight. Though she often jokes about her height, she was constantly made fun of while growing up and the bullying worsened as she put on weight.

Featuring a unique, non-competitive approach to weight loss transformations, “Extreme Weight Loss” airs TUESDAY, AUGUST 12 (8:00-10:00 p.m., ET/PT) on the ABC Television Network.

Sara is the first “little person” featured on the show. She is nearly 150 pounds overweight and believes that her weight is holding her back from her true potential. At 26, in a fit of frustration, Sara decided to join a convent, hopeful that answering to a higher calling would help her find her place in the world. Unfortunately, she felt she wasn’t accepted as a nun, either, and decided to leave after six years. This episode documents Sara’s year-long physical and emotional journey.

New in Season Four, each “Extreme Weight Loss” participant spends the first 90 days of his or her weight loss journey at the University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center (AHWC) in Aurora, Colo. Holly Wyatt, MD, medical director for the AHWC, also serves as medical director for the television program and is seen on the show each week helping participants safely lose up to half of their body weight.

At the end of this episode, Sara will “pay it forward” by giving a friend or family member the opportunity to transform his or her life. The CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center will provide a scholarship to the one-week, evidence- based “Extreme Weight Loss: Destination Boot Camp” transformation program.

The University of Colorado Anschutz Health and Wellness Center offers some of the country’s most advanced research and science-based expertise, focusing on a comprehensive weight loss and weight management approach, including fitness, nutrition and wellness services. Extreme Weight Loss is produced for ABC by Eyeworks USA. The series is executive-produced by JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson, Matt Assmus and Brant Pinvidic. Reported by PRWeb 3 days ago.
