(PRWEB) June 20, 2014

Working on an ambulance while advancing her medical education to become a paramedic, Aurora Alexia Spellman spends her free time with a small group of Wiccans. One night she meets a young man named Lee, who helps her get away from an ex-boyfriend who will not leave her alone. Set in the distant future on planet Earth, Aurora believes she is an ordinary person, but that is definitely not the case! Aurora has been hidden away from her own world for her own protection. But now that she has come of age, her life is about to change.

Her new friend Lee introduces Aurora to Seth Knightwing, leader of the resistance. After she returns to the magical Realm, the two realms start to merge. Several magical cities are destroyed, while other cities return to both realms, throwing the non-magical folk into chaos. The Core system regains access to the rest of the galaxy as the merger continues. Aurora finds she is one of the remaining Nine Princesses of the Core. She and other resistance members look for the remaining descendants so there can be a Rise of the Nine.

'American Buffalo' review: Smart Aurora production

When James Carpenter sweeps onto the Aurora Theatre Company stage in David Mamet's "American Buffalo," he brings a wiry, wannabe outlaw energy that keeps the play lively for the next two hours. Carpenter, one of the Bay Area's most reliably great performers, plays Teach, a smalltime Chicago criminal looking for his next score. [...] Donny and Teach, possibly with the help of Donny's gofer, Bobby (Rafael Jordan), are going to do a little breaking and entering and get the nickel back. [...] after the overly long set-up of Act 1, the desperation of Donny and Teach reaches near-hilarious levels in Act 2. Carpenter and O'Connor know how to find the comedy without losing touch with the grim reality these characters inhabit. Reported by SFGate 8 hours ago.

The “Safe Carry Protection Act” went into effect today in the state of Georgia.

The new law will allow gun owners to carry their weapons into churches, schools, restaurants, club and bars.

Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) recently told Newsmax TV how God had given Americans gun rights (video below).

"We know that when law-abiding citizens who know how to utilize a firearm have one on their person, it helps prevent crime," claimed Rep. Broun. "So this is a law that is going to help prevent shootings, it's going to help prevent crimes."

But according to the U.S. Department of Justice's National Crime Victimization Survey, "guns are used for self defense (both successfully and unsuccessfully) by less than 1 percent of all violent crime victims," reports Mother Jones.

“We need to go back to the Constitution for not only the First Amendment, but the Second Amendment,” added Rep. Broun, noted RawStory.com. “Because the First and Second Amendments are the guardians of our liberties. The Second Amendment is the one that really protects all of our liberties that we are given by our Lord, and our God-given rights, and are protected under the Constitution.”

There is no verse in the Bible that mentions guns or the Constitution.

"We've seen these school shootings all across the country, and we've seen where there has been a shooting with someone there that has the ability to protect themselves actually prevent kids from being shot," added Rep. Broun.

However, Rep, Braun failed to mention that there were armed security personnel at the Columbine high school and Virginia Tech shootings, which made no difference.

Rep, Braun then claimed that Aurora, Colo. shooter James Holmes picked a "gun-free" theater, which is popular rumor started by gun activist John R. Lott Jr. on FoxNews.com.

"The shooting in Aurora, Colo., happened at a movie theater that is a theater that advertised that they were a gun-free theater," said Rep. Broun. "And the crazy person passed several other movie theaters and went to one where he knew that he had the ability to go about his dastardly deed, heinous deed, with no one there to be able to stop him."

In reality, Holmes has not disclosed why he picked the Cinemark theater for his massacre.

The idea that "gun-free" zones somehow encourage criminals was created by the NRA in 2012 after the Newtown school shooting.

Mother Jones reported in 2013, "Among the 62 mass shootings over the last 30 years that we studied, not a single case includes evidence that the killer chose to target a place because it banned guns."

A 2013 study found that the U.S. has more guns and gun-related deaths than any other industrialized nation, reports ABC News.

Almost Anyone Can Have A Marijuana Business In Colorado Starting Today

$

Want to get in on the Colorado green rush? If you're a resident of the state, you finally can.

Starting Tuesday, for the first time, any adult Colorado resident can apply for a retail marijuana business license.

This marks a significant shift in the state's groundbreaking recreational marijuana laws, which first went into effect exactly six months ago on Jan. 1. Since then, only owners of medical marijuana businesses who were in "good standing" with the state have been allowed to apply for retail marijuana licenses. Now, any adult who has established residency in the state can apply for a marijuana business license.

"This is an obvious next step in the development of this legal industry," Mason Tvert, communications director at the Marijuana Policy Project and a key backer of Amendment 64, the measure that legalized marijuana for adult use in Colorado in 2012, told The Huffington Post. "New craft breweries and distilleries are frequently being established here in Colorado, and this is really no different. Existing marijuana businesses are demonstrating a commitment to following the laws and making this system work, and we expect new businesses to do the same. Colorado has demonstrated that regulating marijuana works."

The Denver Post's John Ingold first reported that as of mid-June, nearly 300 people had filed notices that they intend to apply for a retail marijuana license. It remains unclear how many of the applicants intend to start cultivation companies, how many are interested in opening storefronts and how many want to explore other aspects of the retail marijuana industry.

Natriece Bryant, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Revenue's Marijuana Enforcement Division -- the agency charged with regulating the state's burgeoning industry -- told HuffPost that a handful of applicants, including one for a retail marijuana cultivation business and two for retail marijuana testing facilities, have already moved on to the next stage of the approval process.

But before you start packing your bags to move to the Centennial State with dreams of making marijuana millions, keep in mind that many of Colorado's cities and counties still have either outright bans on retail marijuana shops or moratoriums on new shops opening up. The state's second largest city by population, Colorado Springs, is among the cities with blanket bans, while Denver, home to the majority of the state's operative retail marijuana dispensaries, has a moratorium on new pot businesses until 2016.

On the other hand, certain cities and counties that have opposed medical marijuana in the past are now signaling their interest in retail marijuana shops. The city of Aurora, which banned medical marijuana dispensaries in 2010, has opted in on recreational marijuana shops and is accepting business applications, though it has capped the total number of shops at 24.

"We have the advantage of waiting and seeing how other cities have handled both retail and medical," said Jason Batchelor, Aurora's finance director, to Denver's Fox affiliate back in March.

It's unknown what effect Tuesday's policy change will have on the state's existing marijuana industry.

"I'm a little nervous and concerned about the changes that are coming," said Toni Fox, owner of 3D Cannabis Center in Denver, to HuffPost. "Not from a retail storefront side of the business, but from the large stand-alone cultivators that are now allowed to apply for licensing to grow come October 1. Most of us retail shop owners are producing enough cannabis that we do not need to wholesale any product. Where is all this new unassigned retail cannabis going to go?"

"It's very concerning to not only myself but others who see the writing on the walls," Fox continued. "I think the wholesale and retail prices will come down considerably at most stores and that there will still be an extremely excessive amount of harvested cannabis available and unneeded. Where will it go?"

The state's medical and recreational marijuana dispensaries have together raked in over $200 million in revenue between Jan. 1 and April 30 of this year, according to state tax data. Despite the novelty and popularity of recreational marijuana in the state, medical marijuana continues to vastly outsell recreational. As of April, medical marijuana shops had brought in more than $130 million in revenue for 2014, versus about $70 million for recreational. That is likely due to several factors, including the contrast between the state's long-established medical marijuana industry and its still-nascent recreational marijuana industry, as well as the varying rates at which medical and recreational marijuana are taxed.

While medical marijuana is subject to state and local jurisdictional taxes, recreational marijuana has an additional 15 percent excise tax -- the revenue from which will fund public school construction -- as well as a 10 percent special sales tax on retail sales to fund marijuana regulation in the state.

If approved, the new businesses will begin to open around the state on October 1. Reported by Huffington Post 5 days ago.

Planned Parenthood Hands out Award For 'Exceeding Abortion Visits'

Planned Parenthood claims its business is “women’s healthcare,” but its recent award certificate to a Colorado abortion clinic for “exceeding abortion visits [in the] first half of FY12 compared to the first half of FY13,” affirms that its most valued business is abortion.

The Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, the second largest Planned Parenthood facility in the United States, gave the award to its Aurora abortion clinic.

As CNS News.com reports, the photo of the award was taken by a former worker who saw it posted on a bulletin board in Denver that displays awards earned by satellite clinics.

The award certificate confirms that Planned Parenthood clinics are given abortion “quotas” to meet and that the Aurora clinic had “exceeded” expectations.

Former Planned Parenthood director and pro-life advocate Abby Johnson wrote about the award certificate at her blog, “And Then There Were None,” on Monday:

Ever since I left Planned Parenthood, I have been talking about the abortion quotas that are established inside abortion facilities.  Many abortion supporters refused to believe it, citing that surely Planned Parenthood wants abortion to be safe, legal and RARE. If they want something to be RARE, they certainly wouldn't have quotas, right?

Last year, Planned Parenthood reported a net revenue of $1.21 billion, and received $540.6 million in U.S. taxpayer funding. Reported by Breitbart 5 days ago.

SAE Institute San Francisco Audio Technology Program student Brendon Davis set a new world record for the longest stationary skateboard manual. Davis’ time was 19 minutes and 39.56 seconds, which improved upon the previous record by more than 250%.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 02, 2014

SAE Institute San Francisco Audio Technology Program student Brendon Davis set a new world record for the longest stationary skateboard manual. Davis’ time was 19 minutes and 39.56 seconds, which improved upon the previous record by more than 250%. Davis’ feat took place at Society Skate Shop in San Carlos, California.

“The record was verified by Narbe Vagharshakian, the owner of Society Skate Shop,” says Davis, who trained for over a year to prepare for the event. “A surveyor was on-premises to measure the ground and make sure its flatness was 1/1000 gradient, and there were two people running stop watches. It was quite a scene, and it’s awesome to hold the world record.”

Davis grew up in Redwood, CA. He began skateboarding in 1996 when he was 11 years old, and as his passion for the sport grew, he racked up quite a few injuries.

“I’ve broken my tailbone, all of my fingers, and I once broke my wrist and my foot on the same night,” says Davis, who graduated from Aurora High School in Redwood City, CA in 2004. “There was never a time that my legs didn’t look like the Northern Lights from all the beatings they took. But that’s the life of a skateboarder and it’s something you’re forced to get used to.”

Along with skateboarding, Davis was also passionate about music. A career counselor recommended that he pursue an education in audio engineering, and after comparing the alternatives, Davis chose to attend SAE’s campus in San Francisco.

“During my initial tour of SAE, I found the staff to be really friendly,” says Davis. “When I began my classes, the faculty also proved to be patient and extremely helpful. My classmates are great, the curriculum is just right, and the equipment is top-of-the-line.”

Davis dedicated his skateboarding feat to his family’s close friend Curtis Suckut, who died in 2012. Suckut trained pro athletes and Olympians, and integrated a balance board into his clients’ fitness regimens.

“I learned how to master the balance board quickly, and Curtis told me how I could apply this skill to my skateboarding,” says Davis. “It changed my entire approach, and it wasn’t long before I became more comfortable on two wheels instead of four. Having the ability to balance this way made me realize that pursuing the world record in stationary skateboard manual wasn’t just possible, it was actually achievable.”

Davis will be graduating from SAE’s Audio Technology Program in December ‘14. He plans to seek guidance from SAE’s career services department and to access SAE’s network of international alumni - many of whom are leaders in film, television, gaming, and music production - to pursue a full-time engineering job.

“I’ll go wherever the work is,” says Davis. “I have dreams and big goals, and relocating or not is all part of the adventure. I’ll also keep skateboarding as long as my legs will let me.” Reported by PRWeb 5 days ago.
