Prolific homebuilder, Neal Communities, reports another record-breaking month of new home sales on the Suncoast. March's 91 sales secure a strong first quarter for the Lakewood Ranch-based homebuilder.

Lakewood Ranch, Florida (PRWEB) April 18, 2014

Neal Communities sold 91 homes last month, beating its all-time sales record from March 2013 by 10 sales. That number is up from last month, reinforcing that this year’s delayed season is in full swing.

“With the winter season starting later and lasting longer this year, we’ve seen a delay of visitors and potential homebuyers traveling to Florida. We expect the late but strong season to continue on through May,” said David Hunihan, director of sales for the Lakewood Ranch-based, new home builder. “We could not be more thankful for our valued customers; they’re part of the extended Neal family and we’re appreciative for their trust in us to build the home of their dreams in beautiful Southwest Florida,” said Hunihan.

March sales took place across 16 communities, spanning from Manatee to Lee Counties. Notable neighborhoods included Neal’s master-planned Grand Palm—
located in Venice— with 25 sales, Central Park at Lakewood Ranch with nine sales, and Villa Palmeras in Estero with nine sales. There were also seven sales at Fairfield in Bradenton, and six at Woodbrook in Sarasota.

The builder expects several communities to reach completion this year, including the popular, family-friendly Central Park at Lakewood Ranch. Neal will grow its Florida footprint this year as well, with a planned expansion including close to a dozen new neighborhoods, several of which are already under development.

Neal Communities was named one of 2012's "America's Best Builders" by BUILDER Magazine and voted the “2013 Best Residential Builder in Southwest Florida” in a readers’ poll sponsored by Gulfshore Business Magazine. Neal Communities was also named 2014 “Best Builder” in the Best of Venice, awarded by the Venice Gondolier, and was a finalist in the Sarasota Herald Tribune’s 2014 Reader’s Choice Awards for “Best Builder”. The company is ranked #1 locally by Metrostudy and by Hanley Wood Market Intelligence based on number of home sales and ranked #64 nationally among homebuilders by BUILDER Magazine. To date, Neal has built over 9,000 homes in Southwest Florida. As the area's largest and most established, locally owned and operated private builder, Neal Communities is continually striving for excellence in every aspect of the home building and development business. John Neal Homes, Neal Signature Homes, Charlene Neal PureStyle, Waterscapes Pools & Spas, and Allegiant Title Professionals all contribute to the firm's continued, record-setting local success. The company's honors and accolades include 42 Parade of Homes 2014 awards, 49 Aurora Awards, 5 Best in American Living Awards, and hundreds of local and regional industry awards. NRA Protesters: 'Honk to Stop Gun Violence' On April 17th, a group of protesters gathered outside NRA headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, and held signs that read, "NRA: Bought and Paid for in Blood" and "Honk to Stop Gun Violence," among other things.

Media Research Center's Dan Joseph interviewed the protesters, one of whom also supported "knife control" and another who answered "no" when asked if citizens should be able to use a weapon to protect themselves when under attack. The protester contended that "only a law enforcement officer should be allowed to use weapons."

Another lady held a sign that said, "Background checks save lives."

But as Breitbart News has reported, Army Spc. Ivan Lopez (Ft. Hood, April 2nd), Karl Halverson Pierson (Arapahoe High gunman), Aaron Alexis (D.C. Navy Yard gunman), Paul Anthony Ciancia (LAX gunman), James Holmes (Aurora movie theater gunman), and Nidal Hasan (Ft. Hood, November 2009) all went through background checks before committing their heinous crimes and taking innocent lives.

4/20 Goes Mainstream In Colorado

DENVER (AP) — Once the province of activists and stoners, the traditional pot holiday of April 20 has gone mainstream in the first state in the nation to legalize recreational marijuana.

Tens of thousands gathered for a weekend of Colorado cannabis-themed festivals and entertainment, from a marijuana industry expo called the Cannabis Cup at a trade center north of downtown, to 4/20-themed concerts at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater — acts include Slightly Stoopid and Snoop Dog — to a massive festival in the shadow of the state capitol where clouds of cannabis smoke are expected to waft at 4:20 p.m. MDT Sunday. The festival in Denver's Civic Center Park is the most visible sign of the transformation. It started as a defiant gathering of marijuana activists, but this year the event has an official city permit, is organized by an events management company and featured booths selling funnel cakes and Greek food next to kiosks hawking hemp lollipops and glass pipes.

Gavin Beldt, one of the organizers, said in a statement that the event is now a "celebration of legal status for its use in Colorado and our launch of an exciting new experience for those attending. "

On Saturday, the first day of the two-day festival, only a few people lingered on the steps of a Roman-style amphitheater where marijuana activists spoke angrily about bans on the drug in other states. Thousands instead lingered on the park's broad lawns, listening to hip-hop music blasting from the sound stage and enjoying the fresh, albeit marijuana-scented, air.

"It's a lot mellower this year," said Cody Andrews, 29, of Denver. "It's more of a venue now. More vendor-y."

Last year's event was marred by a shooting that wounded three and is still unsolved. This year a fence rings the park, armored security guards roamed the grounds and all entrants were patted down for weapons. There was also tension earlier in the year when some organizers wanted to officially sanction the 4:20 pm Sunday smokeout, but the city noted that public consumption of marijuana is still illegal in Colorado. By Saturday night, Denver police said they had issued at least 17 citations for public pot smoking.

Still, participants expect to light up on Sunday, which happens to also be Easter Sunday. Plenty weren't waiting until 4/20 proper. On Saturday, Jairin Genung, 25, of Aurora, sat on the grass with friends, including one who was carefully rolling a thick joint.

"We're going to light up no matter what," Genung said. "If you can't smoke at the 4/20 rally, it just doesn't make sense."

The whole scene was wonderfully surreal for Bud Long, 49, from Kalamazoo, Mich., who recalled taking part in his first 4/20 protest in 1984.

"Nationwide, it'll be decriminalized," he predicted, "and we'll be doing this in every state."

Denver is just one of many cities across the country where 4/20 marijuana celebrations are planned Sunday. Elsewhere, San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr said his officers would be cracking down on illegal parking, camping, drug sales, underage drinking and open alcohol containers at Golden Gate Park's Hippie Hill. Officials don't want the unofficial pot holiday to disrupt Easter Sunday activities in the park

Charleston International Film Festival Wraps Up a Spectacular Seventh Year with Screenings, Workshops, Parties, Awards, and The First Lady of Sci-Fi

Charleston, SC (PRWEB) April 21, 2014

In its seventh year, the Charleston International Film Festival (Charleston IFF) welcomed film industry professionals and enthusiasts to historic downtown Charleston to enjoy screenings, workshops, and parties during the five-day event, celebrating films from 11 different countries around the world.

The festival kicked off with an outdoor reception on George Street in front of the Sottile Theatre, followed by an early-release screening of major motion picture Draft Day, starring Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner. The next four days were packed with screenings of 75 short films, documentaries, animations, and features that captivated audiences. Film screening blocks were followed by Q&A sessions between audience members and representatives from the films, including screenwriters, directors, and cinematographers.

Free workshops and demonstrations ran throughout the festival, including a casting and acting session with esteemed casting directors Laray Mayfield (Fight Club, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Laura Verbeke (Flight of the Conchords), as well as actor and former professional athlete Ed Marinaro (Hill Street Blues, Blue Mountain State).

After-parties at the Music Farm and Mynt rounded out the festival, offering additional opportunities for film lovers and filmmakers to meet and mingle.

The festival culminated in an Awards Gala where the legendary Gale Anne Hurd was presented an award for Achievement in American Film. Hurd was introduced by esteemed actor Bill Paxton (Aliens, Tombstone, Apollo 13) who said, "I hold a dear place in my heart for Charleston, as it was a location for my first major motion picture, The Lords of Discipline. Coming back to visit for the festival to honor my friend and colleague, Gale Anne Hurd, was a pleasure."

Hurd boasts an illustrious career that includes producing award-winning films and television programs, such as The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Armageddon, The Incredible Hulk, Tremors, Dante’s Peak, and The Walking Dead.

“Having filmed in Charleston early in my career, it was an honor to receive the first Achievement in American Film Award from such a well-curated festival,” said Hurd. “In a sea of film festivals, Charleston IFF is one that is truly magical.”

Hurd wasn’t the only one to leave the festival with new hardware in tow. Grape took home the award for Best Film and Amber Karlins was awarded Best Screenplay for Aurora. 3 Mile Limit, written and directed by Craig Newland, took home the Jury Award for Best Feature, while Harry Grows Up and The Lady in Number 6: Music Changed by Life won Jury Awards for Best Short and Best Documentary, respectively.

The festival attendees chose 120 Days for Best Documentary, Crackerjack for Best Feature, The Armadillo for Best Short, Bittersweet for Best Foreign Film, and Blue for Best Animation. Best Actress went to Alex Lombard for her role in Sophie and Best Actor was awarded to Konstantin Lavysh for Karaganda.

Summer Peacher, Charleston IFF Co-Founder and Executive Director said, “The absolute best part of the film festival is showcasing the product of so many people’s hard work and creativity. We love having a chance to recognize the passion and commitment of these brilliant and talented artists.”

The annual event is made possible largely due to generous donations from corporate sponsors and partners—particularly Charliewood Pictures, the festival’s presenting sponsor for the past three years. Festival Co-Founders Summer and Brian Peacher are already looking to take the festival to an even bigger stage in 2015.

Organizations to implement one of three programs designed to help people affected by cancer.

Austin, Texas (PRWEB) April 21, 2014

Today, the LIVESTRONG Foundation announced the recipients of its Community Impact Project, a program that will distribute more than $1 million in addition to tools and resources to bring three proven cancer support programs to 39 sites across the U.S.

“More than 100,000 passionate cancer advocates voted to immediately provide critical support to people affected by cancer in their own communities, and we’re so appreciative of them all,” said Doug Ulman, Foundation president and CEO. “We stand by these three programs that are on the cutting-edge of fighting the practical and emotional effects of a diagnosis and proven to promote the overall health and wellbeing of people affected by cancer.”

More than 100 qualified hospitals, cancer centers and community organizations in seven regions across the U.S. were selected to participate in the project’s online voting campaign. The finalists of the campaign will now receive up to $15,600 along with tools and resources to implement one or more of the following three programs:·     The Jeffrey Frank Wacks Music Therapy Program has become an essential component of the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center’s integrative approach to caring for cancer patients. The program’s overarching goal is to facilitate relaxation, decrease anxiety and stress, enhance wellness, improve pain management, and provide comfort and support for cancer patients and their caregivers. Music therapy is proven to reduce stress and pain levels associated with illness and hospitalization. For many patients, the simple act of listening to music provides a therapeutic release, promoting healing and overall wellbeing. Clinical music therapy services are provided on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. Two part-time music therapists conduct sessions with patients either at the bedside or in common (environmental) areas of the cancer center.

·     Pablove Foundation’s Shutterbugs Pediatric Photography Program for Children and Teens, the signature arts program of The Pablove Foundation, teaches children living with cancer to develop their creative voice through the art of photography. Many of the students are removed from school during their illness and treatment, which leads to a disruption in their daily routines. Through Shutterbugs’ carefully designed curriculum, students have the opportunity to develop pride and an enhanced self-esteem as they learn challenging, new skills. Trained professional photography mentors guide its students through a series of lessons created specifically to encourage photographic creativity. They gain hands-on experience while learning the principles and techniques of photography including the basics of composition, lighting and perspective. Each of their students keeps their point-and-shoot camera kit at the end of the program to encourage them to go out and see the world differently and continue practicing their art form as young photographers. The goals for the students include: increasing their sense of joy, encouraging their creative thinking, fostering their self-esteem and developing their independence.

·     VitalHearts: Secondary Trauma Resiliency’s mission is caring for cancer treatment providers who suffer from secondary or vicarious trauma, which is a significant, although hidden problem. Secondary Traumatic Stress includes such reactions as: depression, anxiety, persistent trauma imagery, sleep disturbances, mistrust of their organization, isolating from family/friends, frequent illness and loss of mission optimism, among other symptoms, due to the deep exposure to suffering that care providers are exposed to. VitalHearts’ program, the Secondary Trauma Resiliency Training (STRT), revitalizes care providers, often saving careers of those who work with cancer patient and survivors by making them more resilient. This allows institutions to better retain their staff expertise, which gives crucial value to patients.

Since the Community Impact Project began in 2010, more than one million votes have been cast, resulting in the creation of 375 programs in 48 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. The online voting campaign took place over an 18-day period from March 24-April 11. Finalists to receive funding were selected based on overall votes throughout the seven regions across the country.

The financial awards provided by the 2013 LIVESTRONG Community Impact Project are currently being implemented at 72 sites including hospitals, cancer centers, universities, and community-based organizations across the nation and are providing support to thousands of people affected by cancer. The LIVESTRONG Foundation is committed to supporting communities in their efforts to help cancer survivors face the challenges and changes that come with the disease and has invested more than $80 million in community-centered organizations.

About the LIVESTRONG Foundation
The LIVESTRONG Foundation provides free cancer support services to help people cope with the financial, emotional and practical challenges that accompany the disease. Cedar Wood Structures Inc. (http://www.CedarWoodStructures.ca), the Greater Toronto Area’s leading provider of custom outdoor living structures, custom cabanas, and residential renovation and condominium improvements, is offering an expert opinion on the value of outdoor renovation projects.

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) April 22, 2014

Cedar Wood Structures Inc. (http://www.CedarWoodStructures.ca), the Greater Toronto Area’s leading provider of custom outdoor living structures, custom cabanas, and residential renovation and condominium improvements, is offering an expert opinion on the value of outdoor renovation projects.

Even though the thought of renovations seem daunting, about 40% of Canadians are planning some form of renovations this year and roughly 55% are planning major renovations within the next five years. (Sources: “CIBC Poll: Renovation Nation? Canadian say they’ll spend almost 30% more on home renos in 2014,” Yahoo! Finance, March 27, 2014; https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/cibc-poll-renovation-nation-canadians-080000338.html; Kent, K “How will you pay for that renovation?” The Toronto Star, March 14, 2014; http://www.thestar.com/life/modernmoney/2014/03/14/how_will_you_pay_for_that_renovation.html.)

“Most of those renovations are going towards general home maintenance,” says Val Dumitriu, owner of Cedar Wood Structures Inc. “That shows that although Canadians do want to improve their homes, they are still being smart with their money.”

Although the inside of the home tends to be the focus for renovations, particularly when homeowners are thinking of adding value to their house, it’s important to remember that outdoor improvements are just as important and can also yield significant returns. Dumitriu suggests thinking of it from a practical point of view; the first thing a buyer sees is the outside of a home, meaning it’s what gives sellers that initial flush of confidence to like the rest of the house. He also notes that adding something like a wooden custom deck gives homeowners a return of close to 90%.

While a custom deck may provide the biggest return on investment, Dumitriu explains that other outdoor renovations can also add value to a home and increase the visual aesthetic. For example, adding something like fibre cement siding can be a huge benefit and can increase the value of a home just as much as adding a custom deck. (Source: Havre, J. “The Top 2014 Home Renovations that Can Add Resale Value to Your Home,” Justin Havre & Associates web site, March 14, 2014; http://www.justinhavre.com/blog/the-top-2014-home-renovations-that-can-add-resale-value-to-your-home.html.)

“However, these aren’t necessarily do-it-yourself jobs, especially when it comes to more complex projects like designing and installing custom pool cabanas. That’s why it’s best to hire a professional if possible,” Dumitriu concludes. “These are projects that take a team of professionals working together to create the right look, design, and appeal. And if these jobs aren’t done right, they can actually devalue a home significantly.”

Cedar Wood Structures Inc. specializes in designing, building, and delivering quality custom pool cabanas, gazebos, garden sheds, studios, outdoor bars and kitchens, pergolas and trellises, custom decks, and other outdoor living structures. Cedar Wood Structures Inc. also specializes in residential renovation, condominium improvements, and general contracting. With over 20 years of construction experience, company owner/operator Val Dumitriu holds a master’s degree in civil engineering and is a certified building inspector. Of 33 reviewed vendors, Confirmit was one of only two that directly captures unstructured customer feedback from multiple sources.

New York, NY and Oslo, Norway and London, UK (PRWEB) April 22, 2014

In its report, How To Use Text Analytics In Your VoC Program, of February 25, 2014, Forrester Research, Inc. evaluates text analytics technology that helps turn Voice of the Customer data into insight. The analysis reviews programs and strategies that help customer experience teams succeed with text analytics solutions. Confirmit, the market-leading global solutions provider for Customer Experience, Employee Engagement and Market Research, was one of two vendors cited for directly capturing unstructured feedback across all ten sources.

The most robust VoC programs recognize the value of structured and unstructured data and according to the report, “adding text analytics to their VoC programs lets companies uncover an additional layer of insights by sifting through and analyzing large quantities of unstructured data -- feedback in the customers' own words.”

The report examines a selection of thirty-three solution providers and identifies text analytics as a critical market differentiator. It states that “text analytics helps organizations provide more intelligent service recovery, drive continuous improvements in operations, and supercharge executive decision-making.”

Other findings from the report include the following:·     Text analytics technology allows companies to develop deeper insights about customers and their behavior.
·     While most vendors rely on partners for certain functionality, Confirmit is one of two vendors that can directly capture unstructured feedback from sources.
·     Confirmit is one of only 12 companies that can analyze text using all eight approaches examined; this enables faster analytics, problem identification and resolution, as well as more effective decision making by company executives.

Embedding unstructured text analysis and social insights technologies directly into Confirmit’s portfolio software offerings ensures that its customers can manage, analyze and react to the huge volume of free-form data from customers. Then, customers can integrate it with more formal VoC data for deeper insight into the customer’s experience.

“We work to empower our customers to take full advantage of unstructured feedback from almost any data source, giving them an opportunity to achieve new levels of insight and a greater competitive advantage,” said Henning Hansen, Confirmit President and CEO. “Our 2014 acquisition of Integrasco underlines our commitment to providing customers with the most comprehensive product suite for intelligence-driven action and we believe Forrester Research’s detailed industry analysis reinforces this commitment.”
