Pittsburgh-based InventHelp is working to submit the Decorative Solar Curtains to companies for their review.

Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) March 05, 2014

If you are looking for an energy-efficient way to spice up the look of your home or office, then look no further than Decorative Solar Curtains.

Developed by an inventor from Aurora, Colo., the curtains prevent sunlight from entering a window.

They effectively reduce the emission of light and heat. This keeps a room cool and comfortable, particularly during the summer months. The curtains also darken the room so that you can sleep more soundly. Additionally, they add a decorative element to the room and are producible in a wide range of sizes, shapes, colors, patterns, styles and designs. The invention is patent-pending.

The inventor's personal observations inspired her idea. "I did not like the dismal appearance of conventional solar curtains," she said. "I wanted a more attractive option for use in my home."

The original design was submitted to the Denver office of InventHelp. It is currently available for licensing or sale to manufacturers or marketers. For more information, write Dept. 12-DVR-652, InventHelp, 217 Ninth Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, or call (412) 288-1300 ext. 1368. NASA Is Aiming For A 2015 Mission To Jupiter Moon Europa

*Lee Rannals for redOrbit.com - Your Universe Online*

NASA is developing a new mission for 2015 that would send a spacecraft to Jupiter’s moon Europa to investigate whether the moon contains conditions suitable for life.

Europa is an icy moon that scientists believe could hold an ocean of liquid water beneath its icy crust. If an ocean can be found underneath Europa’s crust, it means the moon could have conditions favorable for life. Essentially, where there is water there is a possibility for life to evolve.

The mission would include a radiation-tolerant spacecraft that would embark on a long, looping orbit around Jupiter to perform repeated flybys past Europa. NASA said the science instruments under consideration include radar to penetrate the frozen crust in order to determine the thickness of the ice shell, as well as an infrared spectrometer to investigate the composition of Europa’s surface materials.

The Clipper mission could also include a topographic camera for high-resolution imaging of surface features and an ion and neutral mass spectrometer to analyze the moon’s trace atmosphere.

NASA has sent other missions past Europa, including Galileo, but none of these spacecraft have concentrated specifically on the icy moon.

Scientists reported in the journal Science Express last December that the Hubble Space Telescope detected evidence of water vapor erupting from the moon’s surface. Evidence of the Europa plumes was first detected in December 2012 when Hubble’s imaging spectrograph found faint ultraviolet light from an aurora caused by Jupiter’s strong magnetic field.

NASA Europa scientist Robert Pappalardo told the Associated Press (AP) that NASA will look at competing ideas for a mission to the moon, and that the agency is not sure how big or how much the mission will cost.

The Obama Administration’s 2015 NASA budget request says it would like to see the US space agency fund a mission to fly by Europa and make detailed observations. This is the first time the White House has mentioned a Europa mission in its budget.

The 2015 budget also includes $848 million for the development of commercial vehicles to take American astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), instead of having to rely on Russia. NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said that the funding request keeps the space agency on the path of sending humans to Mars in the 2030s. Reported by redOrbit 8 hours ago.

Vietnam Veteran Dusty Earl Trimmer's Passion Shines Through in Newly Released Book About War's Lasting Effects

"Vietnam veteran's passion often overwhelms..." notes Kirkus Review about this new book by Dusty Earl Trimmer.

Aurora, OH (PRWEB) March 05, 2014

Veterans of the Vietnam War, now in their mid-60s to early 70s, made it through that dreadful conflict but were changed forever. Some tried to push their memories away, only to be haunted by what happened in South Vietnam, while others want to speak but find few who will listen. This new book by Dusty Earl Trimmer, himself a decorated combat infantry Vietnam veteran, shares his and his war buddies’ experiences and what it’s like to live as a survivor of America’s most unpopular war in history that continues to haunt them.

"Condemned Property?" provides a stark portrait of day and night combat and its lingering effects on veterans, including the author. For instance, Trimmer changed jobs almost two dozen times because he couldn't find or keep a job with an employer willing to risk employing a “crazy” Vietnam veteran and he nearly killed himself in high-speed car accidents more than once. Many of his fellow survivors came back unable to work, becoming homeless and unable to care for themselves. From descriptions of combat maneuvers to accounts of everyday nuisances – such as bathing in Agent Orange run-off – and then the unforgettable hostile welcome home many Vietnam veterans had once they came home, Trimmer brings the war to life in vivid detail, as only someone who served there can do.

"Condemned Property?" pulls no punches and shows no fear of the large organizations that have dismissed or delayed the benefits deserved by veterans of all wars. "Condemned Property?" is an indictment of abandonment and betrayal that is shared among most Vietnam veterans. It is truthful, supported with facts. "Condemned Property?" shows no mercy on the Ameri-Cong media that fed lies to Americans about the Vietnam War and its warriors.

Trimmer writes that he wanted to publish the book to preserve memories of the Vietnam War veteran’s generation as those veterans are dying every day, as well as to inspire them to never give up if they are trying to get help from the Veterans Administration.

Engineered Custom Lubricants Offers Customers Virtual, Real-Time Access to Product Validation Lab

Any customer with a smart phone, tablet or PC can now link in real time to ECL’s R&D lab to review and discuss laboratory tests ECL is conducting to ensure a grease meets customer specifications.

Aurora, IL, USA (PRWEB) March 06, 2014

The next time one of Engineered Custom Lubricants’ customers asks how a product test is coming along, they’ll likely hear the ECL representative say, “Would you like to check on that right now?”

ECL recently replaced bulky desktop computers that monitor each piece of laboratory test equipment with networked Android™ tablets that both process data faster and allow laboratory personnel to check on tests remotely. “Offering customers the same remote, real-time access was the next logical step,” said Paul Bedford, ECL vice president of sales and marketing.

Before a customer decides to run life-cycle tests with a grease, ECL conducts several tests to pre-qualify the grease to the customer’s specifications, including its compatibility with design materials and its ability to perform at extreme temperatures, reduce wear, stay where it’s applied, resist oxidation and repel water or harsher fluids and gasses. Using their smart phones, tablets or PCs, customers can now view tests in progress through live tablet cameras at ECL; review test data in multiple formats; view electron microscope scans; and discuss both test protocols and up-to-the-minute results with ECL chemists and tribologists. Customers “enter” the ECL lab through a secure, one-time, password-protected website. The password expires after the session is complete.

Will virtual visits to the ECL lab catch on in the marketplace? “Only time will tell,” Bedford said.

“One part of our technology leadership strategy is to use information technology to get closer to our customers. In addition to real-time data, we see the virtual lab program as a great in-service education opportunity for customers who want a better understanding of the analytical tests and equipment we use to develop and qualify their greases. Fundamentally, this is a major lab upgrade that allows us to collaborate, monitor and process test data faster -- and fast development and turnaround is what all customers want and need to be competitive,” said Dr. Kasturi Lal, ECL vice president of technology.

Engineered Custom Lubricants, founded in 1954, is a privately held growth company that designs, manufactures, markets and sells high performance, first-fill greases and coatings for OEMS and their suppliers. ECL offers more than 400 greases, fluorinated dispersions and waterborne dry film coatings that are specified by OEMs and their suppliers. Recently, it founded Engineered Custom Lubricants GmbH in Hamburg, Germany, and acquired Lubrication Technology, Inc., manufacturer of Christo-Lube® brand lubricants. ECLI Products, LLC, owns and does business as Engineered Custom Lubricants and Lubrication Technology. For more information, visit ECLLube.com or call +630.449.5000 or +49 40 38666080. Ky. sues crew of barge that collapsed bridge

(AP) — Kentucky transportation officials are suing seven members of the crew of a cargo ship that struck and collapsed part of a bridge over the Tennessee River two years ago, causing millions in damage and diverting traffic for four months. The state Transportation Cabinet said in a lawsuit moved to federal court this week that it spent at least $7 million to repair the Eggner's Ferry Bridge after the Delta Mariner struck it on Jan. 26, 2012. The cabinet's lawsuit, initially filed in state court in January, said the crew of the ship ignored repeated warnings from the U.S. Coast Guard and another vessel on the river that day about the navigation lights being out on the bridge. The National Transportation Safety Board concluded that the missed and ignored warnings were part of a series of errors that led to the cargo ship striking and tearing down a 322-foot section of the span that carries traffic from near Aurora, Ky., to Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area in western Kentucky.
