Jennifer Lawrence is one of the most idolized celebrities in Hollywood. She's beautiful, she's talented, and her adorably zany antics on the red carpet just make the Internet fall in love with her even more.

Her perfection is only matched by the likes of Princess Ariel, Princess Aurora, or Snow White. No matter what J-Law does, she does it like a whimsical Disney princess.

Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region (HomeCareAssistance-Toronto.com), the leading provider of non-medical, in-home senior care in the Greater Toronto Area, is responding to the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s recent annual report on the health of Canadians, which states that more and more people are surviving heart attacks and strokes, but face challenges and lack support to fully thrive.

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) February 10, 2014

Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region (HomeCareAssistance-Toronto.com), the leading provider of non-medical, in-home senior care in the Greater Toronto Area, is responding to the Heart and Stroke Foundation’s recent annual report on the health of Canadians, which states that more and more people are surviving heart attacks and strokes, but face challenges and lack support to fully thrive.

According to the 2014 Heart and Stroke report, an increasing number of Canadians are surviving heart attacks and strokes. The report found that over the last 60 years, the death rate for strokes and heart attacks has declined by more than 75%. (Source: “2014 Report on the Health of Canadians,” Heart and Stroke Foundation web site, February 2014; http://www.heartandstroke.com/atf/cf/%7B99452D8B-E7F1-4BD6-A57D-B136CE6C95BF%7D/HSF_HMReport2014E_web.pdf.)

“This means more than 90% of Canadians who have a heart attack and more than 80% who have a stroke and make it to the hospital will survive,” says Lester Fix, executive vice president of Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region. “While these are amazing statistics, there is still a lot of work to be done.”

Fix explains that while more and more people are surviving heart attacks and strokes, when it comes to physical activity, managing stress, and maintaining a healthy diet, survivors struggle to make and maintain important behavioural changes for a healthy lifestyle. The biggest challenge survivors of strokes and heart attacks face is related to motivation, as many believe the goals are unrealistic and too much change is required all at once.

Motivation and perception about health is even an issue for baby boomers. The Heart and Stroke Foundation’s annual report in 2013 found that while 80% of baby boomers think their doctors would say they are healthy, nearly 85% do not eat the recommended amount of daily fruits and vegetables and more than 40% failed to reach ideal physical activity levels. On top of that, the large majority of baby boomers say they feel stressed sometimes while almost 30% say they are often or always stressed. (Source: “Reality Check: 2013 Report on the Health of Canadians,” Heart and Stroke Foundation web site, February 2013; http://www.heartandstroke.com/site/apps/nlnet/content2.aspx?c=ikIQLcMWJtE&b=3485819&ct=12941223.)

“The reality is that people often live 10 years or more beyond the time their health has deteriorated. That can mean the last decade can be spent in discomfort,” Fix adds. “At the same time, 83% of Canadian baby boomers say living in their own home and paying for home care is the best option, and more than 90% want to stay in their home, or at least in their neighbourhood, and live independently as long as possible.” (Source: “Canadian boomers want to stay in their homes as they age,” CBC web site, October 24, 2013; http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/canadian-boomers-want-to-stay-in-their-homes-as-they-age-1.2224171.)

According to Fix, seniors and retiring baby boomers want to remain in familiar surroundings, in their own home, or close to family and friends when health changes occur. In these cases, a full-time caregiver can offer emotional support and assist in all daily activities, including companionship, cooking and light housekeeping, medication reminders, bathing and dressing, exercise, and running errands. Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region also provides hourly home care, which means clients can choose the most suitable times for caregiver service.

“Whether a loved one has suffered a stroke or heart attack or just needs assistance, in-home senior care provided by Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region provides older adults with quality care that enables them to live happier, healthy lives at home,” Fix concludes.

Serving Toronto, North York, Markham, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Vaughan, Newmarket, Unionville, the Township of King, Aurora, Woodbridge, Keswick, and Stouffville, Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region provides older adults with high-quality, consistent care, helping them live happier, healthier lives in the comfort of their home. In an effort to fully address its mobile and homebound clients’ lifestyle needs, Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region provides both hourly home care and live-in home care. On top of that, Home Care Assistance - Toronto/York Region is so certain its customers will be 100% satisfied with its services that it doesn’t require a long-term contract. Baytex has offered A$4.10 per share for Aurora Oil & Gas, which implies a market capitalisation of A$1.84bn (£1bn) or a 52% premium to the average price in the preceding week.

Aurora has a 28% interest in Sugarloaf in addition to a number of other stakes in three other areas of mutual interest (AMI) on the Eagle Ford Shale complex.

Getting what you want: How to be a pro complainer

$
0
0
Have you ever scene a customer arguing with a store employee or even yelling, demanding to speak to a manager? That might not be the best way to handle a conflict. Just ask Aurora McBride. She considers herself a pro complainer.

In fact, a company just sent McBride a new wheel to replace one that broke off her laundry cart.

"While I'm very polite and nice, I want to make sure they know I was very unhappy with the product I received or the service I received," McBride said.

McBride keeps a complaint file full of letters written to different stores she was unhappy with. She said doing research and knowing who to contact is key.

"I’ve got tons of instances where I've been contacted by district managers, apologizing for stores that mess up," McBride said.

Melanie Barrientes said her family and friends call on her if they have a problem.

"If you don't speak up, how are they going to know?" Barrientes said.

Barrientes let Green Meadows Farm know she was disappointed with a field trip her son took there and in return received free tickets.

"I'll go online and I will research on how to get ahold of the owner and I will sit there and write a letter and I will call them, I do both," Barrientes said.

Local 6 visited the Better Business ureau, which rates businesses and deals all kinds of complaints. Last year 14,000 people filed complaints with the BBB, and more than two million people inquired about businesses.

"It is important to have a voice, don't feel totally powerless," said Judy Pepper, president of the BBB. "We asked, is there a proper way to complain and get results?"

In Pepper’s opinion, yes.

"We always suggest the consumer go back to the business first and try and resolve it," Pepper said.

Pepper recommends:

Speaking up- stores usually want to know about mistakes Time your complaint carefully- save complicated issues for weekday, business hours Gather Facts- keep your documentation, receipts etc. Try being nice- you get more with honey Finally set realistic expectations- do not make unreasonable demands

Most important, Pepper said, "Understand what the company will or will not do or what they will or will not cover. Retail stores may have no refund policy, so you have to be careful in the very beginning."

Depending on the type of complaint, you can file with a number of agencies:

Better Business Bureau Attorney General's Office Federal Trade Commission

"You may not have gotten your issue resolved, but you have been able to tell someone else about it and help protect them," Pepper said.

That's why McBride said she speaks up.

“It's not about getting things for free, it's not about scamming the system. If I buy four hair ties and four break, I will let the company know because its on there end and it's obviously faulty,” McBride said. Reported by Click Orlando 20 hours ago.

Zoomax upgrades both the software and hardware of the Aurora HD 24’’ desktop electronic magnifier, which makes it the most cost-effective desktop electronic magnifier ever for consumers with low vision.

(PRWEB) February 11, 2014

Recently, Zoomax fully upgraded both the software and hardware of the Aurora HD. This latest version provides a sharper image, higher color contrast, a brand-new package, and a more attractive price.

When it comes to desktop electronic magnifiers, consumers are mainly concerned about the cost and performance of the magnifier. When choosing the right HD desktop magnifier, customers should consider the ease of use, the quality of the image at any magnification, the contrast of colors and real time focus, and the price.

Those who suffer from eye problems such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, cataracts, glaucoma, and other diseases will find the design and available features of the Aurora HD very useful in everyday life. Users can read whatever they want clearly and comfortably, such as newspapers, magazines, medicine prescriptions, and mobile phones.

Since the launch of Aurora HD, it has been widely approved for its high cost-performance by distributors, low vision organizations, and end users worldwide.

What You Need To Know About Refrigerating Your Cosmetics

$
0
0
So, we heard a little rumor going around the Internet beauty-sphere, telling us that we should start keeping our beauty and skincare in the fridge. But of course, we couldn't make a move without knowing how this small change would really affect us. And since we already store our LUSH Cosmetics in cold temperatures, it couldn't hurt to explore this topic a little further.

While we understand it could keep our nail colors from separating (because who doesn't HATE that terrible moment?), should we really be refrigerating our cosmetics? We asked three dermatologists found that this is a fad that hasn't made a huge splash in the skincare world... yet. Keep reading to find out what you need to know about cooling off your beauty products.

*Makeup has preservatives for a reason.*

Most, if not all, of the cosmetics you buy have preservatives that allow the product to last for a period of time. Because of this, refrigeration doesn’t necessarily extend expiration dates. “Storing the products at normal room temperature and discarding any containers left open over a period of three months is a good rule of thumb,” recommends Dr. Aurora DeJuliis, who owns The Aurora DeJuliis M.D. European Medical Spa in Montclair, N.J.

However, organic and natural cosmetics may lack preservatives, which would then make refrigeration a great storing option, she says, because a cold temperature could possibly replace those missing preserves. But Dr. DeJuliis adds, “Particular attention should be paid to the expiration date, and should not be used beyond that.”

*But some topical prescriptions require cool temperatures. *

Acne medications that are applied to the skin can be stored in the fridge, depending on the chemical makeup of the cream. “There are a couple of prescriptions where it is recommended to refrigerate them if you don’t plan on using them up within 60 days or so. This is most likely due to the preservatives in them wearing off and leading to oxidation of the chemicals," Dr. DeJuliis says.

*Refrigeration doesn’t impact active ingredients, but it can change the way a formula looks. *

Cold temperatures won’t change the main, active components like the retinol in your face serum, but Dr. Ranella Hirsch, a dermatologist based in Cambridge, Mass., notes that they could look different. “The challenge a lot of times is the texture when you refrigerate a product," she explains. “Oil and water can separate or something like olive oil will turn into a butter-like consistency.” Unless you want to slather chunky oil on yourself, keep it in the pantry.

*No matter how natural your DIY beauty mixtures might be, keeping them cold won't make them last longer.*

“Any home remedy you make should be used once and the excess discarded,” explains Dr. Carolyn I. Jacob, board-certified dermatologist and founder of Chicago Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology. Considering that some homemade concoctions use perishable items like yogurt, Dr. Hirsch believes they don’t last any longer than they would if they were used as food. She adds, "Those are meant to be used when they’re made up, and any leftover mixture should be thrown away."

Basically, “You don’t want to put rancid food on your skin,” says Dr. Jacob.

*So, what does refrigerating your beauty goods actually do? It makes them feel good.*

Although it’s still cold out, when you finally do encounter the summer heat, the fridge might be your saving grace. “Spray products like sunscreen and Evian Mineral Water Spray are super refreshing when cold, and this motivates people to actually use sunscreen,” Dr. Hirsch says.

And when you’re recovering from a rough night, throw your eye cream in the fridge. “When applied cold on the skin, it will reduce inflammation and swelling, making it the ideal pick-me-up after a night of poor sleep," says Dr. DeJuliis.

So the next time you think about cooling your products off, take some time to consider the pros and cons.

*Don't worry, this isn't the only weird beauty ritual we've encountered:*Want more HuffPost Style beauty content? Check us out on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest and Instagram. (For everything else check out our main HuffPost Style Twitter, Tumblr, Pinterest and Instagram @HuffPostStyle.)
