Angelina Jolie Looks Delightfully Wicked In New 'Maleficent' Trailer

Disney released a new trailer for "Maleficent," starring Angelina Jolie as the titular character, and she looks great. 

However, the live-action adaptation of animated film "Sleeping Beauty" won't continue the adventures of Disney's most heinous villain. Rather, we'll get the backstory on what happened to turn the sorceress dark.

Elle Fanning also stars as Princess Aurora while Brenton Thwaites will play Prince Phillip.

Here's the official synopsis from Disney: 

"Driven by revenge and a fierce desire to protect the moors over which she presides, Maleficent cruelly places an irrevocable curse upon the human king’s newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Aurora is caught in the middle of the seething conflict between the forest kingdom she has grown to love and the human kingdom that holds her legacy. Maleficent realizes that Aurora may hold the key to peace in the land and is forced to take drastic actions that will change both worlds forever."

The trailer reminds us of a parallel to Disney's prequel "Oz the Great and Powerful" last year which told the origin story of the Wicked Witch along with ABC's "Once Upon A Time" which showcases the beginnings of many Disney fairytale villains.

"Maleficent" comes to theaters May 30.

A decorated Vietnam War veteran shares his perspective on the conflict - including how it continues to affect those who served in that unpopular war - in this new book released by Dog Ear Publishing.

(PRWEB) January 21, 2014 -- Veterans of the Vietnam War, now in their mid-60s to early 70s, made it through that dreadful conflict but were changed forever. Some tried to push their memories away, only to be haunted by what happened in South Vietnam, while others want to speak but find few who will listen. This new book by Dusty Earl Trimmer, himself a Vietnam veteran, shares his experiences and what it’s like to live as a survivor of a very unpopular war that continues for those who served in that tropical country.
“Condemned Property?” provides a stark portrait of combat and its lingering effects on veterans, including the author. For instance, Trimmer changed jobs almost two dozen times because he couldn't find or keep a job with few employers wanting to risk employing a “crazy” Vietnam veteran, and he nearly killed himself in a high-speed sports car accident. Many of his fellow survivors came back unable to work, becoming homeless and unable to care for themselves. From descriptions of combat maneuvers to accounts of everyday nuisances – such as leeches and bathing in Agent Orange run-off and refuse-filled rivers – and the hostile welcome veterans had once they came home, Trimmer brings the war to life in vivid detail, as only someone who served there can do.

Trimmer writes that he wanted to publish the book to preserve memories of the Vietnam War veteran’s generation as those veterans are dying every day, as well as to inspire them to never give up if they are trying to get help from the Veterans Administration. In Trimmer’s continuing effort to help his fellow veterans, a portion of proceeds will be donated to disabled veterans, homeless veterans and highly rated military charities such as Army Emergency Relief, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and the Wounded Warrior Association.
Author Dusty Earl Trimmer, who grew up in Cleveland and Twinsburg, Ohio, served as a combat infantryman with the 25th Infantry Division from 1968-69 in the Vietnam War, often serving as point man. Those two years, more than 30,000 Americans died in battle. He worked as a marketing and sales consultant, earning sales achievement awards, and formed his own company in 1987 representing high-level multibillion-dollar trade publishing companies. Trimmer and his wife, Ginny, married in 1984. Although this is his first book, he published an article in 1991 in “Vietnam, Our Story – One on One.”

The 25 US High Schools With The Highest Standardized Test Scores

Here's an awesome chart that looks at the areas of the country that are killing it in the standardized testing arena.

While some universities and employers, like Google and IBM, are down-playing the value of SAT and ACT scores, other research holds that this data is highly reliable and a valid measure of brainpower.

A study from Case Western Reserve University last year showed that standardized testing scores are excellent measures of general cognitive ability. And they continue to play a role in the competitive college admissions process.

With that in mind, school analysis site Niche surveyed 909 public and private high schools between 2012 and 2014, and ranked schools by students' average SAT/ACT scores. The ranking is based on self-reported scores from 75,834 users over the two-year period. In order to qualify, a school had to have responses from at least 100 students.

Man found dead after truck crashes into Melbourne restaurant

A man with a gunshot wound to the head was found dead Tuesday after a pickup truck crashed into a Melbourne restaurant, authorities say.

Police say the white pickup truck crashed through the side of That Little Restaurant, near Aurora and Wickham roads.

Melbourne police taped off a wide part of the parking lot around the crash.

Authorities say it is unclear if the man found dead shot himself after or before the crash.

No one inside the restaurant was hurt.

Russia Accused Of Hacking Hundreds Of Western, Asian Companies

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. cybersecurity firm says it has gathered evidence that the Russian government spied on hundreds of American, European and Asian companies, the first time Moscow has been linked to cyber attacks for alleged economic - rather than political - gains.
According to the firm, CrowdStrike, the victims of the previously unreported cyber espionage campaign include energy and technology firms, some of which have lost valuable intellectual property.
CrowdStrike declined to go into detail about those losses or to name any victims, citing confidentiality agreements related to its investigation.
Officials with the Russian Interior Ministry could not be reached for comment early on Wednesday in Moscow.
"These attacks appear to have been motivated by the Russian government's interest in helping its industry maintain competitiveness in key areas of national importance," Dmitri Alperovitch, chief technology officer of CrowdStrike, told Reuters on Tuesday evening.
While cybersecurity researchers have in the past said that China's government was behind cyber espionage campaigns against various corporations dating back as far as 2005, Alperovitch said this is the first time the Russian government has been linked to cyber intrusions on companies.
He said that CrowdStrike has been following the activities of this Russian group, which it dubbed "Energetic Bear," for two years. The firm believes the Russian government is behind the campaign because of technical indicators, as well as analysis of the targets chosen and the data stolen.
"We are very confident about this," Alperovitch said. Victims include European energy companies, defense contractors, technology companies and government agencies, according to the CrowdStrike report.
Manufacturing and construction firms in the United States, Europe and Middle East as well as U.S. healthcare providers were also cited as targets.
Alperovitch, who is of Russian ethnic origin and now lives in the Washington, D.C., area, is an expert on cyber espionage who rose to prominence while working for McAfee Inc. While there he managed a team of researchers who produced a landmark January 2010 report that described how Chinese hackers had launched an unprecedented series of attacks known as "Operation Aurora" on Google Inc and dozens of other companies.
In 2012, he co-founded CrowdStrike, which collects intelligence about the activities of hacking groups around the world and sells software to thwart such attacks.
He told Reuters that the data his firm has obtained about Energetic Bear suggests that authorities in Moscow have decided to start using cyber espionage to promote Russia's national economic interests.
"They are copying the Chinese play book," he said. "Cyber espionage is very lucrative for economic benefit to a nation."
