The prizes were presented by Ensitech’s Marketing Director, John Perrin, along with a staff training session on how to use the TIG Brush® as well as the accompanying Ensitech Surface Finishing System® fluids.

Items donated by Ensitech® as part of the Fabtech raffle prize include:·     TIG Brush TBE-250

In addition to Mr. Kilgore, the entire staff at The University of Minnesota CSE Machine Shop were eager to learn more about the capabilities of the Ensitech Surface Finishing System. Following the training demonstration, the staff was very enthusiastic about the TIG Brush’s weld cleaning & passivation capabilities to the extent that it sparked a discussion about new ways in which they would like to use it for future high-quality fabrication, welding and repair work.

Essential to these capabilities are the system’s proprietary electro-chemical process, combining low-toxicity fluids with a patented power supply and unique brush design which veritably serves to protect the weld against corrosion to the extent that the corrosion rate is reduced to below that of unwelded stainless steel*. Furthermore, the Ensitech Surface Finishing System® provides welders a choice of four innovative cleaning fluids, plus dedicated fluids ranging from pre-weld preparation to finishing and marking, leaving fabricators covered at every step of the welding process.

Utilized by several industry-leading companies including Nestle, Bechtel, Boeing and Shell, the TIG Brush® has been rapidly adopted as the preferred weld-cleaning technology of quality and safety-conscious companies in the Food & Beverage, Oil & Gas, Defense, Chemical & Mining, Water Treatment, Energy and Construction industries across the globe.

Fine Design Living, One of the GTA’s Leading Boutique Design and Build Firms, Weighs in on Energy Rate Hike and Popularity of Ethanol Fireplaces

Fine Design Living (http://www.FineDesignLiving.com), one of the GTA’s leading boutique design and build firms specializing in high quality exterior and interior custom renovations for residential and commercial clients, is weighing in on the recently announced energy rate hike and the rising popularity of custom ethanol fireplaces for homes and condominiums.

Toronto, Canada (PRWEB) December 17, 2013

Fine Design Living (http://www.FineDesignLiving.com), one of the GTA’s leading boutique design and build firms specializing in high quality exterior and interior custom renovations for residential and commercial clients, is weighing in on the recently announced energy rate hike and the rising popularity of custom ethanol fireplaces for homes and condominiums.

“The Ontario government recently announced its long-term energy plan, one that would see homeowners facing a 33% increase in electricity rates over the next three years. While the average monthly bill today is $125.00, by 2016, it will jump to $167.00. Even in the short term, Ontarians will be paying more for energy; on November 1, electricity rates went up three percent,” says Braden White, owner of Fine Design Living. “This sharp hike in energy prices and an early, icy start to winter has triggered an increased demand for ethanol fireplaces.” (Source: Leslie, K., “Ontario electricity rates to rise 33% in three years under Liberals’ long-term energy plan,” Financial Post web site, December 2, 2013; http://business.financialpost.com/2013/12/02/ontario-electricity-rates-to-keep-rising-as-long-term-energy-plan-released/.)

Whether it’s for a large custom home or a suite on the 30th floor of a condominium, ventless ethanol fireplaces are an affordable, safe, and efficient way to heat up a home. Because they are ventless, the heat doesn't escape through a chimney, staying in the room. According to White, unlike gas or traditional wood-burning fireplaces, which can be difficult and expensive to install, ethanol fireplaces are an easy and inexpensive alternative.

“Until recently, those living in a condo or apartment had to do without a fireplace. While installing a gas or wood-burning stove in a condominium is out of the question, having an environmentally friendly ethanol fireplace isn’t,” White adds. “Whether someone owns a condominium or rents, they can enjoy the warmth of an ethanol fireplace. That’s because an ethanol fireplace works in a similar fashion to candles: there are no gas lines, no need to haul wood, and no sparks involved. Using ethanol, the fire burns without smoke, ash or soot, and built-in safety features ensure that the ethanol fireplace will shut off if it tilts, shakes, or tips over.”

One major advantage of an ethanol fireplace is that it doesn’t need a chimney and can be installed in any building, in any room, and on any wall. In fact, a wall-mounted ethanol fireplace can be installed in minutes and taken down just as easily.

“Ethanol fireplaces are not limited to being mounted to a wall and come in an endless variety of styles and price points,” White concludes. “An experienced boutique design and build firm can create a custom faux chimney covered with a wide range of different types of stones. This makes for a very dramatic look inside of a condo unit located where you wouldn't expect to see a fireplace and chimney.”

Fine Design Living is a boutique design and build firm specializing in high-quality exterior and interior custom renovations for both residential and commercial clients. From unique landscape designs and landscape construction to custom interior renovations, Fine Design Living is committed to providing the highest-quality workmanship, backed by the personalized approach of excellent service. Based out of Markham, Fine Design Living serves customers in Toronto and the GTA, including Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Vaughan, Newmarket, Unionville, Aurora, Woodbridge, and Stouffville. Dial-a-Carol Offers University Of Illinois Students A Jolly Study Break (VIDEO)

$

CHICAGO (AP) — The phones are jingling off the hook at Dial-a-Carol, a student-run project on the University of Illinois' Champaign campus. It's a hotline of sorts for people who prefer hearing holiday music sung by a choir of amateurs who've been up all night studying.

The carols echoing in the lobby of Snyder Hall may be out of tune at times, but the voices ring with youthful energy. "They're not music majors. They're singing from their hearts," said Kirsten Ruby, spokeswoman for the university's housing department.

The program was started in 1960 by a former hall secretary, Betty Gordon, and a group of dorm residents. Last year, the student volunteers took more than 4,000 calls from people all over the world requesting "Jingle Bells," ''White Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

Phone lines are open 24 hours a day until just before midnight Wednesday. The number is 217-332-1882. When lines are busy, a recorded message greets callers with "Our first available caroler will be right with you."

Dial-a-Carol isn't raising money — and that's part of its charm. It coincides with final exams, giving students needed stress relief between tests.

"It's something fun to do when there's nothing other than studying to do," said 19-year-old Christian Dillon, a freshman architecture student from Chicago. He took carol requests for eight hours overnight Friday and was back Monday for more.

"You're sleepy, just all laughing and drinking coffee to keep each other awake," he said.

There are even Dial-a-Carol miracles.

Renee Nelson, 51, of Naperville, Ill., heard about it on the radio and decided to call.

"My niece Erin (Markovich) is a junior there. I called and she answered, but I did not know she would be there," she said. Nelson requested "Jingle Bells."

"She got a couple of her friends to back her up.... You have to smile," Nelson said. "It's a bunch of college kids who could be doing anything else in their day. It was really cute."

Garrick Bradley, 22, an accounting major from South Holland, Ill., said he answered a Dial-a-Carol phone at 7 a.m. Monday, groggy from studying. The peppy voice on the line was a radio host in Phoenix asking him to sing "Feliz Navidad" on the air.

Other students came to his rescue: "I'm on a radio station live," he said. "I needed some help."

Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" is so popular the students keep track with a "Mariah Meter." The count Monday morning: 107 requests.

"I sing in the shower like everyone else," said 19-year-old Kelly Sarna, an aspiring pharmacist from New Lenox, Ill. "I've never been a part of a choir. It's more about the tradition. ... When I have kids, I'm going to look back at this and tell them I did Dial-a-Carol."

Singing to strangers who may be having trouble finding the Christmas spirit can be a moving experience.

"It really makes you feel you're doing some good," said Evan Lorenz, 19, a freshman psychology major from Aurora, Ill. "We don't even sound that good when we sing, but it really makes their day." Reported by Huffington Post 4 days ago.

Lucid Dreaming Headband from iWinks LLC is the Focus of New Fundraiser on Kickstarter

Called the Aurora, it Plays Personalized Lights and Sounds to Help People have Lucid Dreams

New York, NY (PRWEB) December 21, 2013

iWinks LLC has recently launched a campaign on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter website to help raise money for their lucid dreaming headband project. The start up company has developed a smart headband called the Aurora, which plays personalized lights and sounds designed to help people have lucid dreams.

For those who are not familiar with the concept of lucid dreaming, the article that accompanies iWinks LLC’s fundraiser offers a helpful explanation of the phenomenon. Basically, when people realize they are dreaming, they are said to be in a lucid dreaming state. An example of this is when a person falls asleep while watching a movie and suddenly begins dreaming that he or she is part of the story.

The dream enhancing headband is designed to work while people are in the REM stage of sleep; then, after they are aware that they are dreaming while still staying asleep, users can then actually take control of their dreams. This can lead to all sorts of dreamland adventures; including traveling through space, singing in front of a large crowd of people or winning battles against dastardly dragons.

“Have you ever wanted to control your dreams? The Aurora is a smart headband that plays personalized lights and sounds to enhance your dreams,” said a spokesperson for iWinks LLC, adding that the stimuli may be used either for lucid dream induction or for more subtle modification of dream content – the possibilities are truly limitless.

“The Aurora uses a combination of brainwave (EEG), eye movement (EOG) and body movement sensors to accurately track your sleep stages and knows exactly when you’re in REM.”

As a bonus, in addition to being extremely entertaining, lucid dreams may also help to improve the sleeper’s life during the day.

“Research shows that those who lucid dream regularly experience fewer nightmares and lower levels of stress and anxiety,” the article on the Kickstarter website noted, adding that visualizing activities during dreams actually improves performance of those activities in waking life.

“The Aurora can help you nail that upcoming presentation, hit the game-winning shot or ask your future spouse out on your first date We spend one third of our lives asleep. Why not make the most of that time?”

After researching ways to make money, the founders of iWinks LLC decided to turn to Kickstarter to help them achieve their dream—no pun intended—of sharing their breakthrough and innovative technology with the rest of the world. Donations will help ensure that the Aurora has a sleek and pro design, and if the company’s stretch goal is reached, they will embed an algorithm in the Aurora which will allow it to work without the help of a smartphone.

Anybody who would like to learn more about the Aurora lucid dreaming headband is welcome to visit the Kickstarter website at any time; there, they can read about the project and how they will be rewarded for their donations.

“BSI Financial has a real opportunity to set new standards for regulatory and investor responsiveness as the market shifts to favor companies that offer specialized servicing by emphasizing quality and transparency in their operations,” said Dorchuck.
Jayne Martin joins BSI Financial with 15 years of experience in marketing strategy, brand and project management, and sales support. Her background also includes more than 10 years in the field of financial analysis.

'A Swell Noël': Craig Jessup spices up cabaret

Adding the sparkle of wit and wisdom from celebrated British author and songwriter Sir Noël Coward to the holidays is what Craig Jessup has in mind for his one-man show "A Swell Noël," which plays at Harry's Upstage, the cabaret space at Berkeley's Aurora Theatre, through this weekend. [...] Sir Noël, as played by Jessup, will be the sly guide for a show that not only hits home for the holidays but also traces the landmarks of Jessup's 30-plus year career, with selections from a few of the singer's best-known shows, featuring other songwriters as well. Because Christmas and the holidays mean different things to different people, I also wanted to do songs I've done in the past. Cabaret is really different from any other kind of performance because of the size of room that you play and the type of material, which is usually a little more dramatic. [...] I think it's a force of nature that drives itself and keeps going because of the desire of performers - when you're really up close and personal with people, it's so gratifying for both the performer and the audience. Steven Matthew Fernandes Sentenced For Stockpiling Weapons In Las Vegas Home

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 19-year-old who had been accused of stockpiling weapons, forming a militia group and talking about a mass casualty attack on the Las Vegas Strip was sentenced Wednesday to 18 months in federal prison and three years of closely supervised release.

With time already served since his arrest in September 2012, Steven Matthew Fernandes could be free by March. Fernandes declined to speak before U.S. District Judge Andrew Gordon sentenced him.

Fernandes had described himself as commander of a Nevada urban survivalist militia unit with six or seven members, according to court documents. He was accused of telling an FBI informant that he could attack the Las Vegas Strip and kill more than the 12 people who died in a July 2012 shooting in a theater in Aurora, Colo.

"Fortunately, nobody got hurt," the judge said before sentencing Fernandes for his guilty plea to possession of an unregistered firearm and an admission that he possessed unregistered explosives.

Gordon said he believed Fernandes endangered himself, his mother and his younger half-sisters at a home where investigators found gunpowder, homemade napalm and a cache of ammunition and weapons. Fernandes was accused of assembling explosive devices that he detonated in the Arizona desert.

Fernandes nodded when Gordon told him he won't be able to possess weapons or explosives, can't use drugs or alcohol, and has to undergo mental health treatment.

Fernandes, who once wanted to join the U.S. Marines, could have faced up to 10 years in prison. A federal presentence report set a range of 18 to 24 months.

Defense attorney Crystal Eller sought immediate release, telling the judge that Fernandes had no prior criminal record and was now free from the "abuse, brainwashing and destructive thinking" he had been exposed to before his arrest. She blamed leaders of a weapons and military tactics training school in southern Utah called DOA Tactical.

Dead-On Accuracy Tactical owner Brent Roberts in St. George, Utah, called the blame unfair.

"We don't do any type of brainwashing. We do not teach anything that is illegal," said Roberts, who said he has been in business for about 10 years and teaches National Rifle Association instructors.

"Anything that Steven was doing with bomb making had nothing to do with us," he said.

Roberts said he cut ties to Fernandes after the teen failed a weekend NRA certification class in March 2012, amid concerns about the way he was acting.

Prosecutor Nicholas Dickinson pointed in court to a psychologist's determination that Fernandes didn't actually plan to carry out a plan to attack the Las Vegas Strip.

Dickinson called the decision to accept a plea before trial difficult, but said the government was satisfied if Fernandes is required to get strict mental health monitoring.

He was arrested Sept. 13, 2012, as he drove to work at a RadioShack with a loaded shotgun and ammunition in his car. He was indicted less than two weeks later on federal charges of possession of unregistered firearms, making firearms in violation of the National Firearms Act and transporting explosive materials.

Those charges were dropped as part of the plea agreement. Reported by Huffington Post 4 days ago.
